The COVID crisis may have pushed the Patriots-Chiefs matchup into an uncomfortable situation, by forcing the teams to adjust to a new game played on Monday night. Nonetheless, football fans are in for a treat come Monday night. We get the Patriots, Chiefs, Falcons, and Packers dueling it out. These are four explosive offenses taking the field. With the football matchups, there’s multiple stars sitting out tonight. Let’s take a precise look at some key players that could explode onto the scene with more involvement.
N’Keal Harry-WR-New England Patriots
The Patriots and Chiefs game has shootout written all over it. Even without Cam Newton, Josh McDaniels knows that he needs a lot of firepower after watching Kansas City pour it in Baltimore. A key contributor to this Patriots dynamite will be young wideout-N’Keal Harry. So far, Harris has gathered 22 targets through three weeks. That’s second behind Julian Edelman. Harry had 8 receptions for 72 yards in the “game of the year” against Seattle. Expect not only Brian Hoyer to make plays with the former first-round pick, but for the game plan to lean on Harry to make plays in space through screens/shallow routes.
Mecole Hardman-WR-Kansas City Chiefs
This is what we’ve all been waiting for. Mecole Hardman and Patrick Mahomes are brewing, similar to Drew Brees clocking in with Emmanuel Sanders. Mahomes hit Hardman for a quick strike last week, but Hardman also managed to crack out 4-81-1 touchdown. With a Chiefs offense battling one of the best secondaries in the league, expect Mahomes to lean on his sneaky good wideout with the most favorable matchup. Stephon Gilmore and the Belichick game plan will be all over Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. This bodes well for Hardman owners, but make sure to keep an eye for a career game with Hardman. Monday Night Football against the Patriots would be no better place and time for the young wideout to meet all of fantasy owners expectations.
Rex Burkhead-RB-New England Patriots
There is not a better silver platter for Burkhead to capitalize on huge production with the championship level Patriots squad. Coming off a career game of “3 total touchdowns” and 82 rushing yards, Burkhead will look to relive the glory with Sony Michel being ruled out for Monday Night. Not only is Michel being ruled out, but the team is going into a game of high stakes with a backup quarterback. Expect Burkhead to get more rushing attempts, screens in the passing games, and red zone touches without the NFL’s top red-zone threat-Cam, Newton.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling-WR-Green Bay Packers
I mean c’mon, there isn’t a bigger sleeper across the league at wide receiver. We’re talking about Davante Adams missing this huge matchup and Scantling stepping into a huge role with one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league. O yeah, Allen Lazard is also on IR, so A-Rod will be seeing where Marquez before the snap on occasion. Scantling has a modest 8-165-1 touchdown through three weeks, but he’s primed to break out on the big stage with an amazing matchup. He’s no longer going against Janoris Jenkins on the Saints, he’s facing a Falcons defense that’s given the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers.
Todd Gurley-RB-Atlanta Falcons
Gurley could reenter himself into the top-10 running back situation with a 150+ rushing yard game with a great matchup against Green Bay. We all saw Alvin Kamara last Sunday night reel out career plays against a Packers unit that didn’t know how to tackle. It would make sense for the Falcons to test out the Packers unit and control the clock. The Falcons don’t want a shootout with Aaron Rodgers, even if he’s missing a couple of weapons. The whole football world saw the Falcons defense got victimized in back to back weeks against Nick Foles and Dak Prescott. With Gurley being a steady force for ATL, through 4.0 YPC and 197 rushing yards in three games, expect Dan Quinn to try and save his job with the ball in the Falcons hands, opposed to Aaron Rodgers going up and down the field for a Green Bay win. The former Georgia Bulldog for Atlanta is worth a look at trading for if he can bring an elite performance on Monday Night, as well.
