Diontae Johnson, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
A new WR 1 has established himself in town and his name is Diontae Johnson. After narratives of a breakout year last year faltered people, everybody was jumping in line to push Johnson to the side.
Additions of Claypool and Ebron, along with the pairing off JuJu Smith-Schuster quickly shot down Johnson’s value big time this offseason. With the talent being there and the big play offensive scheme in the fold, Johnson was a clear breakout candidate from day one. Now with his production skyrocketing, he is quickly escalating to WR1 territory in fantasy football making him a buy-in dynasty formats.
The breakout is upon us this season for Johnson. It flashed early in the season in a nice Week 2 performance.
Johnson hauled in 8 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown on 13 targets versus the Broncos. Shortly after this game, Johnson would be hurt for several weeks missing some and perpetually getting hurt in several others.
Well, it’s been 3 straight weeks now and Johnson has yet to falter or get hurt. Here is a tweet that sums up Johnson’s season so far in a nutshell.
A target MACHINE. Johnson is setting the fantasy landscape on fire with his volume and playmaking ability. Here’s a look at his last 5 games.
- Week 7: 29.0 Fantasy points
- Week 8: 1.6 Fantasy Points [Hurt]
- Week 9: 14.1 Fantasy Points
- Week 10: 23.6 Fantasy Points
- Week 11: 23.1 Fantasy Points
Garnering the most targets on the team and scoring the most fantasy points is common these days for Johnson. With Smith-Schuster’s pending free agency this offseason it could be the Diontae Johnson show for years to come.
I’m buying Johnson and im sold that he is a clear cut WR1 in fantasy football.
