Look, frankly, 2020 is not the year of TEs. Accordingly, the pickings are slim, and you should certainly not be banking your playoff hopes on the tight end role. That said, Kyle Rudolph is certainly the most exciting option on the waivers.
It was a tough call between Rudolph and Dalton Schultz, but this comes down to the quarterback throwing to them – as you can see above, I’ll take Cousins over Dalton at this stage. Rudolph has greatly benefitted from Irv Smith Jr.’s absence; he’s put up 131 receiving yards in the last two matchups while filling that role.
Smith has a groin injury that can easily linger, and has cost him the last two matchups accordingly. The Vikings may not even want to chance aggravating the injury to Smith in an easy Week 13 matchup against the Jaguars. Even if he returns, he’ll likely have a somewhat limited role.
Meanwhile, Rudolph will be looking to build on the connection he’s slowly forming with Cousins. In the Vikings second-half comeback against the Panthers last week, Cousins leaned heavily on Rudolph; he finished out Week 12 leading the team in receptions.
He’ll easily find targets against the Jacksonville defense, and is probably the best you’ll find for TEs on the waiver wires in Week 13.
