Austin Ekeler, RB, Las Angeles Chargers
Last but certainly not least on the fade list is Austin Ekeler. After returning from injury two weeks ago he erupted for 24 fantasy points. In the following week, Ekeler failed to register over 11 points. It’s been a funky first few weeks back for Ekeler.
Even with him scoring 24 and 10.8 fantasy points in the first few weeks I’m fading him. He had 11 receptions in his first start back. Super unsustainable for a RB or just about any player. He also has some competition in the backfield. Guys like Justin Jackson, Kallen Ballage, and Joshua Kelley are starting to get back and healthy. They should continue to challenge Ekeler for snaps and targets.
Let’s look at the matchup, you may think “oh it’s the Falcons, they stink on defense.” Well, that may be the case but unfortunately not against opposing running backs they don’t. They have been a monster the last few weeks and for most of the season versus fantasy running backs. They rank 4th in the league against the RB allowing only 19.8 points per game. They have been stopping opposing runners big time since Week 5.
I’m off of Ekeler because without 10+ receptions he hasn’t scored over 18 points on the season. The matchup is tough and he could struggle running the ball. With Herbert struggling last week I believe he will force feed Keenan Allen to make up for it. I don’t see a way that Ekeler runs for more then 60+ yards in a minus matchup. Fade.
