3 QB Targets for the Steelers

Time to Start Fresh in Pittsburgh?

The Browns is the Browns, or whatever that means. I suppose we can put full responsibility on Juju Smith-Schuster for this wildcard loss, right? They were due ever since dancing on opposing teams’ logos became cool! Karma really showed her ugly face after all.

But let’s not blame just one person. This team has not looked right ever since their Week 13 loss against the Washington Football Team. Coming into this game undefeated, the Steelers’ ego was through the roof, until they were slapped in the face by reality. After all, this team was not as good as the record showed.

As the Steelers finish another season, failing to meet early-season expectations, the question remains. Who will be the future QB for the Steelers? Recent reports have come out that 38-year-old, Ben Roethlisberger is expected to stay put for another season, but does he have what it takes to bring a Lombardi back to Pittsburgh?

The Steelers will have plenty of options if they decide to move on from Roethlisberger at some point next season or in years to come. From free agents to later round quarterback steals in the upcoming draft, Big Ben should have himself some competition. Here are some potential targets for the Steelers’ in the near future!

Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints

If not for the future Hall of Famer, Drew Brees, Jameis Winston may have had himself a starting job this year. While under Brees, Winston should have had exceptional coaching and received veteran advice. Not everyone will have the chance to have such a mentor.

In 2019, while starting under center for Tampa Bay, Winston threw for a jaw-dropping 5,109 yards with 33 touchdowns. While these stats are quite impressive, what stood out the most were the number of interceptions (30), which came close to the number of touchdowns he threw.

Over the off-season, Winston had LASIK surgery, which was intended to correct his nearsightedness. Could this have been a key factor in the amount of picks he threw? This could be up for discussion as we have rarely seen Winston this season, as the Saints rolled with Taysom Hill when Brees went down with an injury. There was never a doubt in Winston’s ability to hurl the ball downfield but always in how he could handle the football.

Pittsburgh will possibly look to assess their next quarterback come this off-season and Winston could serve as the perfect match. If New Orleans decides to take the Taysom Hill route after Brees retires, Winston would most likely be looking for a starting job somewhere. With tons of upside and lots of room to grow, the Steelers could take the ultimate chance. All someone could ask for in life is a second chance. Or would this be a third chance? Either way, Winston will certainly be ready to redeem himself.
