Will the Bears QB Nick Foles be traded this offseason?

By: Kyle Strater

After what has been an eventful career, the former Super-Bowl MVP, Nick Foles, had a very down year with the Chicago Bears in 2020. Foles is still a starting caliber quarterback, but will be playing with a chip on his shoulder in 2021, and if he is traded this offseason, here are a few teams who Foles could be suiting up for in 2021.

Philadelphia Eagles

How storybook like would it be if Foles was reunited with his his former team. The Eagles have a bit of a QB dilemma as of now, and there are rumors that Carson Wentz will be traded. That would leave second-year QB Jalen Hurts as the lone quarterback on the Eagles roster. Foles would instantly compete for a starting spot in an Eagles roster that will be revamped with a healthy line and likely new receivers. The Eagles ranked bottom 10 in the NFL in receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards. Eagles fans love Nick Foles, but after a down year in 2020, there’s no guarantee he will return to the form he was in during Philly’s super bowl run in 2018. If the Eagles are able to add a receivers to what was a pitiful squad in 2020, Foles would thrive behind one of the NFLs strongest offensive lines (when healthy). With what is a very weak NFC East, strong QB play for the Eagles could arguably win them the division.

Nick Foles has the highest grade ever given by PFF to a Super Bowl QB (dates back to 1996).

Legendary performance.#Eagles pic.twitter.com/DaM7JuCzCP
— Thomas R. Petersen (@thomasrp93) February 7, 2021

New England Patriots

We all saw how the Cam Newton project worked out in New England. To be optimistic, Foles is statistically, a much better passer in the past few years than Cam Newton. Foles playstyle also is much more similar to Tom Brady’s, which flourished under Bill Belicheck’s offense. Similar to the Eagles, the Patriots offense struggled passing the football in 2020. They ranked bottom 3 in the NFL in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and receptions. The Patriots current QBs on roster are Jarrett Stidham. End of list. Foles is no doubt more talented than Stidham so if he is traded, he would be favorite to start week 1. Fole’s wont take much to trade for, making him a low risk high reward option. If Foles is to succeed, the Pats will need to boost their receiving corps greatly as they arguably had the worst receivers in the NFL. Personally, Nick Foles would fit well with the Pats because he is a traditional pocket passer. The Patriots also have the 4th most cap space in the NFL, as well as 15th pick in the draft. If the front office is able to revamp their poor roster from 2020, the addition of Foles could be the key to Patriots return to glory. Even if New England decides to take a QB in the draft, Nick Foles would still bolster what is one of the weakest QB depth charts in the NFL.

Denver Broncos

Denver is in a very tough situation QB wise, where Foles would fit in nicely. It is likely that Drew Lock will still get one more chance to prove himself in 2021. Drew Lock has underperformed in his short time in the NFL, and considering how atrocious they Broncos played with Drew Lock out, having Foles, even as a backup would be a necessary security blanket. The Broncos ranked dead last in the NFL in passer rating in 2020, which makes me think the addition of Foles could potentially lead to him being a starter. The Broncos were plagued by injury in 2020, even losing their #1 receiver in Cortland Sutton. With the 7th most cap space in the NFL the Broncos will likely look to bring in free agent help in the offseason to make up for a lackluster year. The Broncos trading for Nick Foles is a very smart decision, even if things go wrong with Drew Lock, you have a experienced, talented QB to take over.

Nick Foles is still a talented Quarterback. Even after what was a rough 2020, he is still a starting caliber QB. His trade value is not very high, and I dont expect his tenure in Chicago to last much longer. The former playoff legend still, at 32 years old, has much to prove, and a change of scenery could do the trick. While a trade for Foles may fly under the radar, his value as a player is much higher than people give him credit for. Hopefully the highest graded QB in Super Bowl history gets a shot a redemption in 2021.

Ronald Jones Can Have a Better 2021 Season

Whether you had a bad year, or years, in your fantasy league, the future is bright. Every year there will be a group of players, that fall to the back end of the draft, and end up producing with the league’s best. Here is a list of five players, who you can get late in your drafts, that have a giant upside.

Cam Akers (Finished as RB45)

After an already wild start to the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams are in for an exciting 2021. While Matt Stafford may be the focal point of the Rams right now, anyone who has watched Akers at Florida State or in his rookie season knows his upside is through the roof. Akers was only able to get over 10 carries one time prior to week 10, this was because he was sharing a backfield with Darell Henderson and Malcolm Brown. And when Akers did get touches it was mostly as a change of pace back. Akers potential flashed in weeks 12-14. Where he totaled 14.4 points, 16.4 points, and 21.4 points. While these are above average numbers, Akers did so without being the primary receiving back and while splitting carries with Brown and Henderson. With Malcolm Brown set to hit free agency, and Henderson ending the season on an injury, Akers Production is about to go through the roof. The Addition of Matt Stafford will boost his catches out of the backfield as well as keeping the defense honest in the passing game. Akers Likely won’t be picked up as the first RB for any team but his potential is at the minimum an RB2 or starting flex. Akers is the projected as the RB19, and after his strong finish to 2020, i expect him to eclipse that mark.

Robby Anderson (Finished as WR19)

In his time in the NFL, Anderson has shown flashes of his ability on the deep ball. Anderson is very similar to Desean Jackson, a skinny, fast, receiver who at any point, can torch you for an 80-yard touchdown. The only problem is Robby Andersons best QBs have been Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater, who doesn’t throw the deep ball. Everyone knows Teddy Bridgewater was never going to be the future for the Panthers at QB but would fill the void for the time being. The Panthers could very well have a New QB in 2021, with many mock drafts having them acquire a QB with the 8th overall pick. In terms of Andersons production, through weeks 1-5, he was on fire, with four games over 100 yards. But he was never able to eclipse the 100-yard mark for the rest of the season. Anderson, despite finishing the year with three touchdowns, finished as the WR19 in PPR leagues. Three touchdowns to go along with a 1000 yard season does not make much sense. With WR Curtis Samuel being a free agent, Anderson’s production will likely increase even more. Anderson’s lack of touchdowns drives down his demand to the point where you can get him in the later parts of your draft. Anderson will have a very strong 2021, but his skillset and value are greatly underrated, making him a phenomenal late-round pickup.

Hunter Henry (Finished as TE12)

In the NFL, there is no bigger production gap than at the TE position. There were only seven TEs who averaged over 10pgg (PPR) in 2020. So a Tight end who consistently produces is of high value. Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry showed flashes of his fantasy value in 2019 where he had 55 receptions and 5 touchdowns in only 12 games. In 2021 Henry put up similar numbers in 14 games. With Henry now being a Free Agent, his talents could be put to use elsewhere. Henry has always shown value as a receiver, averaging 12 YPC in his career. And at age 26, he is just getting started. If a pass-heavy team picks him up, Henry’s production could go through the roof. He has been very consistent and at 6’6 poses a great red zone threat. A somewhat down year for Henry is likely due to the fact that the Chargers started rookie QB Justin Herbert for most of the year. Herbert being new to the system was not very familiar with Henry and his abilities which could result in a decreased production. If The Chargers resign Henry, I expect his totals to skyrocket as he develops comfort with Justin Herbert. You should be able to get Henry very late in your draft, his risk-reward is very positive, and I believe his 2021 will be beneficial for fantasy owners. Anderson is projected to be the the WR42 in 2020, a position I guarantee he will eclipse.

Sam Darnold (Finished as QB33)

If any QB is built for a comeback, it is Sam Darnold. In his 3 years in New York, he has flashed potential but ultimately has been limited by poor weapons and worse coaching. With rumors swirling that the Jets are ready to move on from Darnold and trade him for draft capital, it might be time he shows out. Darnold is only 23 years old, which is insanely young for a QB with 3 NFL seasons under his belt. For Dynasty owners, he could provide lasting success for little to nothing. Darnold was only rostered on 1.7% of teams at the end of 2020, making his risk extremely low. Stats do any favors to Darnold, but if he remains in New York, new Head Coach Robert Saleh is likely going to be a better fit for Darnold than “QB Guru” Adam Gase. Look at how Ryan Tannehill’s career changed after leaving Adam Gase’s Dolphins. If Darnold does have a new home, I expect his production to be top 15 at least, making him a valuable QB2 that you could get very late in the draft or off waivers. Darnold is projected to be the QB29 in 2021, a great underestimate.

Ronald Jones (Finished as RB20)

Despite being the most productive back in Tampa, Leonard Fournette gets more attention than Ronald Jones. The lack of attention around Jones is a large reason why he will fall in many drafts. But make no mistake, Ronald Jones will be a top seven RB in 2021. With the Bucs being well over the cap for 2021, and Leonard Fournette set to be a free agent, Jones will be the clear cut RB1 as well as absorbing Fournettes goal line role. In 14 games Jones had 978 yards and Seven TDs, (compared to Fournette’s 367 and Six), making him the RB 20. Jones Rushed for over 100 yards in 4 of 14 games, but if he gets goal-line carries in 2021, his touchdown total will increase greatly. Another positive to Jones is his pairing with Tom Brady. Brady is notorious for check-downs to RBs. Receptions were split between Jones and Fournette in 2020, meaning the loss of Fournette will raise Jones value in PPR leagues tremendously. Ronald Jones has shown flashes of what he can be even rushing for 100 yards in three straight games. Increased touches will put Ronald Jones as an RB1 on any team yet he will likely be available much later in drafts. Ronald Jones is Projected to be the RB25 in 2021, which gives him a great draft value.

Which Teams Should Acquire the Browns Star WR?

By: Kyle Stracher (Twitter: @DarthSpooz)

After bursting onto the scene as one of the most exciting receivers in the NFL, Odell Beckham Jr. has become an icon in the NFL. After 3 straight pro bowls to start his career, Beckham has not been the same since. Beckham has only played 1 full season in the last 4 years, and his production has declined steadily since his first few years with the Giants. The now Cleveland Brown is rumored to be a key trade component this offseason after an ACL tear 7 games into 2020. The Browns were extremely successful without Beckham, even winning their first playoff game in decades. With the possibility of Beckham being traded seeming very possible, here are a few landing spots for the 2014 Rookie of the year.

WR ?Respect @obj @19problemz pic.twitter.com/vptxdVquYi
— San Francisco 49ers (@49ers) January 9, 2022

New York Jets

It may not be the same team Beckham played for, but at least it’s the same stadium. The Jets are in the midst of a rebuild and have a large amount of cap space as well as a need for receiving help. The Jets have two first-round picks this year as well as the 34th pick and Seattle’s third round pick. The Jets have the capital to acquire Odell, and with rumors that they may be moving on from Sam Darnold, Beckham could instantly be the face of New York football again. The Jets ranked 2nd to last in receiving yards in 2020, and with Breshad Perriman set to be a free agent, they could use some help on the receiving end. Expect Joe Douglas to push hard for Beckham’s return to the Meadowlands this offseason.

Baltimore Ravens

Although it is a cardinal sin to trade to division rivals, the Ravens are a great fit for Beckham. The Ravens already have their star quarterback in Lamar Jackson, but he needs receiving help. Marquise Brown, showed he does not have what it takes to be a No. 1 receiver this year. Adding Beckham as a WR 1 would take the pressure off both him and tight end Mark Andrews. The Ravens were dead last in the NFL in receiving yards and still made the playoffs. A receiver like Odell Beckham makes the Ravens run game even scarier and keeps them honest. This year the Ravens only have 5 draft picks (without compensatory picks) but have the 27th overall pick in the first round. The biggest problem is that Baltimore only has 10 million in cap space, meaning in order to take on Beckham, they will have to do some spring cleaning. A duo of Lamar Jackson and Odell Beckham would not only be electric but a huge fan attraction as well. Baltimore is in dire need of receiving, expect them to pursue a Beckham trade if it is available.

New England Patriots

After an un-patriot-like year in 2020, New England looks to rebuild after missing the playoffs for the first time in what seems like centuries. Their first problem? Receivers. The Patriots best receiver statistically was Jakobi Meyers who had 59 receptions and 730 yards. It doesn’t get any better after that either, which resulted in the Patriots finishing 2nd to last in receptions, 3rd worst in yards, 2nd to last in receiving touchdowns, and 3rd to last in 20+ yard receptions. Not exactly a prime group. Cam Newton clearly was not an elite passer, but in his defense, he had no help. The Patriots will likely have a new QB in 2021, and the addition of Beckham could change their offensive landscape. The Pats have the 4th most cap room this offseason which is more than enough to take on his contract. The Patriots have the 15th pick as well as a second-round, third round, and three 4th round picks to help acquire Beckham. Beckham in New England would be reminiscent of Randy Moss’ tenure on the Pats. After 2 sub-par years in Oakland, Randy Moss had 3 of his best seasons in New England. The Patriots are in need of receiving and with their trade capital and cap space, they are a great suitor.

If Odell Beckham is traded, even following his ACL tear, I expect a monster 2021 redemption season. He is stall one of the most talented receivers in the NFL, and given the right fit, will prove that.

In a league where passing is now dominated, teams receiving corps can change their entire season. With many teams looking to improve their passing game, here are the top 5 free agent wideouts in this year’s free agency.

Allen Robinson

In this year’s free-agent class, Allen Robinson is the WR1. Robinson has been arguably a top ten receiver two years in a row now, despite having sub-par QB play. Robinson eclipsed 1000 yards for the second straight year, finishing with 1250 on 102 catches. Playing on the Bears, the wideout was forced to deal with Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles subpar play in 2020. Allen Robinson will be heavily sought after this offseason, with a projected contract of 14 million a year. Robison also has not missed a game in the last 2 years, so whoever signs him is in for a treat.

2. Will Fuller

After improving on what was a strong but limited 2019 season, Will Fuller had an even stronger, but still limited 2021. Fuller was off to an amazing start to 2020, after the departure of Deandre Hopkins, Fuller became the WR1 on the Houston Texans. Through 11 games, Fuller had 53 catches for 879 yards. Projected over a full 16 game season, he was on pace for 1280 yards and 13 touchdowns. After a 6 game suspension in week 13 following PED use, Fuller’s season was cut short as he was suspended for the remainder of the season. Fuller explained via Instagram that he did not take the substance to enhance his performance, rather recover from an injury not knowing it was on the NFL’s banned substances list. Fuller’s performance through those 11 games was enough to get him paid. But considering his suspension it will put his value down. Fuller is only 26, expect a nice contract heading his way this offseason and an equally nice 2021 campaign.

3. Juju Smith-Schuster

When you look past all the antics and pre-mature hype behind Juju, he really is a good wide receiver. Juju had a very underwhelming 2019 season following his breakout 2018 season where he amassed 1400 yards receiving as well as 111 catches. In 2020, Juju led the Steelers in receptions with 97, but only had 8.6 ypc, bringing his season total to 831 yards. The reason for that is the Steeler 2020 quick passing game. Anyone who watched a Steelers game in 2020 knows almost every pass was inside 7 yards. This led to a high reception total for Schuster, but low yardage. Schuster is only 24 years old, the age of some rookie WRs in this years draft class, his antics are very bothersome but also creates attention. It’s hard to project Juju’s value but expect his contract to be worth about 10 million annually. If Pittsburgh doesn’t resign him, Expect a statement year in 2021 from the 24-year-old as well a boatload of TikTok’s.

4. Chris Godwin

Just last year Chris Godwin has 86 receptions, 1333 yards, and 9 TDs in 14 games. Insert Tom Brady in 2020, and Godwin’s number dropped to 65 receptions for 840 yards in only 12 games. The reason? Along with Godwin the Bucs also had Mike Evans, Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski, Cameron Brate, Leonard Fournette, and Ronald Jones on offense. It’s hard to “get yours” when you have that much talent on offense. Godwin sacrificed touches for success and it is working out so far, as the Bucs are playing in the NFC title game this weekend. Chris Godwin has established himself as one of the best receivers in the league, and on almost any team he would be the WR1. Considering his success and that he’s only 24, Godwin will be paid similar to Juju Smith-Schuster. If Godwin is put on a team where he is the sole star, his production will go through the roof.

5. Kenny Golladay

In both 2018 and 2019, Golladay had 1000 yards seasons. In 2020, Golladay only played 5 games. Considering the phase Detroit is going through, it is likely Golladay has not re-signed this offseason, leaving him to free agency. Kenny Golladay is a premier deep threat in the NFL, averaging 17 ypc through his career, his large frame at 6’4 also makes him a great red-zone target. His production was always strong with Matt Stafford and the Lions, but Golladay even produced without Matt Stafford in 8 games last year. Golladay is 28 years old, which is older for a 4th-year player, but his production and consistency when healthy speak for themselves, Golladay is very underrated because he played for the Lions. If healthy, Golladay can be a premier wideout on any team.

Honorable Mentions
