Where Will Wilson Land?

Russell Wilson is rumored to want out of Seattle, but whether or not an official request has been made by the quarterback, there are certainly teams that should have the Seahawks on speed dial inquiring what the asking price would be for the 32-year old signal caller.

Wilson is coming off of his ninth season and he has established himself as a solid veteran option in his prime. Wilson threw for 4,212 yards (ninth-best in the league), 40 touchdowns (a career-high), and 13 interceptions (…unfortunately also a career-high) in 2020. It felt like Wilson didn’t run the ball as much this year, but he actually had his most rushing attempts and yards this season than the previous two so he showed he can still get it done on the ground.

Given the right fit, Wilson has the ability to elevate any offense he joins so who can benefit the most from adding his skillset to their team?

The Chicago Bears- 2020 record: (8-8)

The Chicago Bears are going to be in the rumor mill for any quarterback that is looking for a change of scenery because nobody is really sold on neither Mitchell Trubisky nor Nick Foles. The Bears passing attack was the 11th lowest in passing yards, 15th in passing touchdowns, and they had the seventh most interceptions. The Bears also had the eighth fewest rushing yards in the NFL and we have seen in Seattle how well-rounded Wilson can make an offense. The advantageous thing for Wilson in regards to Chicago is that they gave up 12 fewer sacks than the Seahawks did.

Star wide receiver Allen Robinson is wanting out of Chicago, but an easy way to make him happier and to convince him to stick around would be bringing in Wilson. The Bears finally have a first round pick again and could try to take their quarterback of the future at 20th, but with the QB-needy teams in front of them, there is no telling who will be available there so instead of rolling the dice, they need to take the sure thing in Wilson.

https://youtu.be/X-Y1JmrQ9hA

The New Orleans Saints- 2020 record (12-4)

With one franchise quarterback looking like he is going to hang up the helmet, it is time for New Orleans to look toward the future. Their current incumbent quarterback room is highlighted by Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. Of the two, I actually like Winston’s upside for them more, but the Saints clearly don’t as Hill was dubbed the starter after Drew Brees went down with injury. I get that this offense (quite literally) runs through Alvin Kamara at the moment, but again Wilson has shown that he can add to the versatility of the run game and can be an effective passer when protected.

The Saints were 19th in passing yards this season, but also gave up 19 fewer sacks than the Seahawks. More protection, a much better defense, and one of the best running backs and wide receivers in the league? Sounds like a match made in heaven for all parties (except their opponents).

The Seattle Seahawks- 2020 record (12-4)

YOUR FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK IS UNHAPPY. Seriously, what in the world are the Seahawks doing letting it get this far with Wilson. The Seahawks went 12-4 despite their defense giving up the second most passing yards in the league and their solution is to dismiss the concerns from their quarterback. The Seahawks needs to protect Wilson because his career will be shortened if he keeps getting sacked 48 times a season. They don’t have a first round pick this draft so I get that if they want to commit to a full rebuild that they can get some draft capital for Wilson, but they are committing to a multi-year rebuild when really they need to boost the offensive line and defense and will remain a contender.

Despite the Seahawks having the third best average start position in the league at their own 31.1 yard line, they only scored on 44.4% of their drives which was the 10th most efficient. 10% of their drives ended in turnover, 11th lowest in the league, so that means that 54.4% of their drives ended in either a score or a turnover. The Seahawks gained 5.8 yards per play which tied them for 12th highest in the league and a step away from Wilson would surely see that drop.

The San Francisco 49ers- 2020 record (6-10)

Is it likely that the Seahawks would send Wilson to a divisional rival? Obviously not, but wow would he be exciting in this offense. The 49ers are figuring out their multi-headed backfield, have solid young receivers, one of the best tight ends in the game, and an all-around impressive defense. Do you know what the 49ers don’t have? A Franchise QB that consisntely sees the field.

Jimmy Garoppolo has been a 49er for four seasons and has played in a total of 31 games. He has passed for 7,352 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. Not much of a rusher, he has added only 79 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Over that same four-season span, Wilson has played in 64 games, passed for 15,753 yards, 140 touchdowns, and 36 interceptions. Wilson adds 320 rush attempts, 1,817 yards, and eight touchdowns on the ground. Again, highly unlikely the Seahawks send him to a team in their division, but if he wound up on the 49ers, it would instantly elevate them to playoff contention.

Tim Patrick is a restricted free agent coming off of a 2020 campaign with the Denver Broncos. Going undrafted in 2017 out of Utah, Patrick was signed and eventually cut by the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers before eventually landing with the Broncos. Now the 27-year-old restricted free agent is looking for a new deal and trying to use his best season of his career as leverage.

What is Patrick bringing to a team? For starters, Patrick can spread the field using his 4.47 40 speed which is great for a 6 ft. 4 receiver. He has really good hands dropping only five passes in his career with none of those coming in 2020. And, he has great field awareness proven during his four reception, 44 yard, two TD performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13. His main con is that he has found it hard to stay on the field. Even in college, he played 18 games in his career, but missed 17. If he can stay healthy, he is a cheap, reliable option that can benefit a receiving corps.

So where could/should he go?

Baltimore Ravens

I know it is probably odd to pick a team that isn’t going to pass the ball all that much, but they also need more talented depth when it comes to pass catchers. Their number one receiving option is their tight end, and sure WR Marquise Brown can get down the field in a hurry, but Lamar Jackson either tucks and runs or dumps it down.

With the addition of Patrick, Jackson would have another receiver that hovers around the first down line that could draw attention away from TE Mark Andrews and Brown. Patrick’s average depth of target this season was 12.5 yards which would give Jackson a mid-point dump-off to spread out the offense.

Last season’s WR2 for the Ravens, Willie Snead, is a free agent so the Ravens should take advantage of the growth Patrick has shown with the Broncos and give a cheap deal to the player they initially signed back in 2017.

2. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons make this list because their team identity is to be pass heavy and I don’t think drafting a RB high is going to change that and make them a run-first team. Matt Ryan is going to sling the ball with whatever time he has left in the league.

Julio Jones is injury prone, but also aging and the rest of the WR unit for the Falcons young stud Calvin Ridley, and then behind him is ….exactly. Tim Patrick is not going to be a team’s WR1, but he can be an effective role player. The Falcons had the fifth-highest total drops on the season, so they could do much worse than bringing in a cheap option that can be reliable when on the field.

If Patrick can join this offense and still put up his supplemental usage numbers, or even close to it, of 742 yards and six TDs, the Falcons can use that high draft pick on a RB they desperately need, and they will actually resemble a complete offense.

https://youtu.be/Z9bcE_CQboc

3. The Detroit Lions

I would lose all credibility as a writer if I did an article about a WR and didn’t say that the Lions could use him. The ONLY WR from the 2020 Lions roster that is guaranteed to be under contract with the Lions in 2021 (barring a trade) is Quintez Cephus.

The Lions are in full rebuild mode with the Stafford/Goff trade completed with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason so the age of Patrick shouldn’t bother them. Patrick, again, would be a cheap option having never made $1 million in a single season. At the very least, he is a better option than Cephus at the moment.

Patrick played at least 65% of snaps in every game this season and even though he had never had a long-term deal, he has the veteran field awareness and he could be a good option for Jared Goff as the Lions work towards the future.

Honorable Mention: The Denver Broncos

The Broncos are expected to get Courtland Sutton back and will return Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Patrick would continue to battle for that WR3 position, but he didn’t have a *bad* year by any means.

Why not bring Patrick back to fill that role and see if he can continue to build on his recent success?

Miles Sanders Should Be Traded Away

By: Teddy Ricketson

The beauty of dynasty fantasy football is that the season never truly ends. Once the real-life football season ends, dynasty season really kicks off as you start scouting upcoming rookies.

Another interesting aspect of this kick-off is that everyone starts to evaluate their teams and see what needs they may need to meet in their rookie draft or they may even want to explore trade options. Whether you want to take advantage of a player coming off a great season, or if you are gunning for your favorite rookie and need to acquire picks, now is the time to send out trade offers or trade feelers to see if you can make some moves before the NFL Draft on April 29th.

Here are three running backs that you should trade now to get back the best value (or to just get off your team) as the NFL Draft nears.

David Montgomery- Chicago Bears

https://www.youtube.com/embed/NAXtKGLt7sg“>http://[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAXtKGLt7sg&w=560&h=315]

I can understand your hesitation of trading away David Montgomery who finished as the RB4 in PPR scoring, but this is going to be where you take advantage of the hype he finished with. The reason that I want to move him is because you don’t know which version of him you are going to get. From Weeks 1-9, Monty was the RB14, he then missed a few weeks and then from Week 12-17 he was the RB1. With uncertainty with who is going to be under center in Chicago, I think the reward can be worth the risk for moving Montgomery because you should be able to point to his stats with how he finished to show that he will deserve the asking price that you send.

When thinking about Montgomery and his production, it is still a small sample size with two seasons under his belt. But, in his second year, Monty had more than double his targets from his first season and added almost double the receptions, and 250 more yards through the air. I think that you can project him to still have a role in the passing game, but I think he regresses to somewhere in between his two seasons for the future. Sell high.

2. D’Andre Swift- Detroit Lions

https://www.youtube.com/embed/occlMr77X1E“>http://[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=occlMr77X1E&w=560&h=315]

I’m choosing Swift here because I think he has become overhyped through the fantasy football community on social media. Between the hire of OC Anthony Lynn and the trading of Matthew Stafford, everyone has their eyes on Swift to shoulder the Detroit Lions’ offense in the upcoming season. In his rookie season, Swift played in 13 games, had 114 rushes for 521 with eight TDs on the ground. Through the air, Swift added 46 receptions on 57 targets, 357 yards, and two additional TDs. He averaged 14.6 fantasy points per game, which was third for rookies behind James Robinson and Jonathan Taylor.

So what’s the issue? A) it’s the Lions. B) Jared Goff is in town who isn’t expected to spread the ball around to his RBs as much as Matthew Stafford did. Running backs for the Rams in 2020 totaled 71 targets and 50 receptions while the Lions backfield totaled 101 targets and 77 receptions. Swift almost had the same number of receptions alone as the entire Rams backfield had all season. I think that you can confidently re-create the production of Swift other places so trade him at the peak of this hype, get back some draft capital, and set your team up for more success in the seasons to come.

3. Miles Sanders- Philadelphia Eagles

https://www.youtube.com/embed/LUrPN-huM9Q“>http://[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUrPN-huM9Q&w=560&h=315]

As the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive outlook keeps shifting, so does the outlook for the third year back out of Penn State. With a question mark under center and with Zach Ertz now being shopped with Carson Wentz, Sanders is probably going to be involved heavily in whatever is left of the offense for the Eagles in 2021.

But, will Sanders’ production alone be higher than what you could get for him? In his two years in the league, Sanders has rushed 343 times for 1,685 yards and nine TDs with pretty even splits between the two years. The problem though is that he heavily regressed in the receiving game in 2020 bringing in 28 receptions when he had 50 the year prior. Again, as the offense is still fluid with exactly how it would look, take advantage of the uncertainty and unload Miles Sanders.

Honorable Mention: JD McKissic (Washington Football Team). Don’t get me wrong, I think McKissic has found his perfect landing spot, I just think that if you also happen to have Gibson, you can deal McKissic in PPR leagues for a pretty penny as he is one of the, if not the number one, best fantasy backup RB that is expected to be with his same team next season at this point.

The post Dynasty: Three Running Backs to Trade Away Before the NFL Draft appeared first on Pro Football Mania.

There are obvious differences between redraft leagues and dynasty leagues, but one overarching “stat” that is discussed a lot in dynasty is the age of the players. Now, everyone can have different strategies in dynasty whether you are all-in on winning now or if you are building for a future dynasty, but in either case, there is going to be some value with QBs that are “over the hill” playing in their age-30 season or later. Here are three QBs that I believe will defeat Father Time long enough to give your team a boost:

Matthew Stafford- Los Angeles Rams

The biggest trade of the “offseason” so far saw Matthew Stafford head to sunny Los Angeles in a blockbuster trade between the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams. We all knew that Stafford was one of the toughest guys in the NFL, and for the first time in a long time, he is going to have a supporting cast on both sides of the ball that will alleviate pressure on him.

This season, throwing to the likes of Marvin Jones Jr, Mohammed Sanu, and Danny Amendola for his receiving corps, Stafford finished as QB15. He completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,084 yards, 26 TDs, and 10 INTs. On the Rams, Stafford will have two top-25 fantasy WRs in Robert Woods (WR12) and Cooper Kupp (WR26). He does get a downgrade at TE going from TJ Hockenson (TE5) down to Tyler Higbee (TE17), but this Rams offense had Josh Reynolds as their third WR option finish as WR61, 10 spots higher than the Lions second WR last season.

Stafford is going to have more chances to succeed and hopefully not play from behind as often with the Rams defense getting him the ball back. The Lions defense gave up the most points in the league last season, and the Rams gave up the fewest and the Rams had twice as many INTs as the Lions did. There is hype around Stafford on a new team, so give it a few months for it to die down, but I do think you can get him cheaply and he is poised for a QB1 season.

2. Ryan Tannehill- Tennessee Titans

Ryan Tannehill had the same number of rushing TDs as Lamar Jackson last season. Obviously he didn’t have nearly the yardage on the ground, but Tannehill is coming off of a season where he set career highs in passing and rushing TDs. The question mark for Tannehill is how deep his supporting cast will be this season as both Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith are Free Agents, but he we know he will have the RB3 in PPR scoring Derrick Henry and the WR14 AJ Brown out there to help him try and stay hot.

Tannehill finished as the QB7 on the season with 3819 yards, 33 TDs passing, seven INTs, and he added 266 yards and seven rushing TDs on the ground. His best game of the season came in Week 15 against the Lions as he went 21/27 for 273 yards, three TDs, 0 INTS, and three rushes for 21 yards and two touchdowns for a total of 37.02 fantasy points. He finished as the QB9 (min. nine games started) in a points per game basis so while the Tennessee Titans still have some pending free agents, use his turning 33 right before the season as leverage for a QB that still has solid years to give your squad.

3. Kirk Cousins- Minnesota Vikings

Say what you will, Kirk Cousins is really, really good at handing the ball of the fantasy’s RB2 Dalvin Cook. All jokes aside, Cousins finished the season as a QB1 finishing 11th with 306.2 fantasy points. Cousins is surrounded by talent so despite the criticisms he is given, he is still going to be a viable QB option if you were someone who was hoping that Cam Newton to the Patriots was going to be a thing. In superflex leagues, two-QB leagues, or in desperate dynasty roster situations, give me Cousins.

Cousins completed 67.6% of his passes for 4,265 yards, 35 TDs, and 13 INTs. In QBs with at least 500 passing attempts, he was second to Deshaun Watson in average completion distance at 8.1 yards meaning when he is completing passes, it is further down the field and for a guy that completed 349 passes, that is a good indicator for potential success.

As discussed with the other two QBs on this list, Cousins has about a good as a supporting cast as any. Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen finished as the WR6 and WR10 respectively, and then there’s ole RB3 Cook in the backfield too. Kyle Rudolph is fantasy irrelevant, but Irv Smith Jr. showed flashes of promise as a young tight end in the game. There are trade rumors swirling around Cousins, but if he stays put, I like him to finish as a QB1 this upcoming season and you can easily make a case to whoever has him in your league to get him cheaply.

Honorable Mention: Derek Carr (Las Vegas Raiders)- Carr turns 30 next month so technically does qualify for the age stipulation, but even with finishing as the QB13 this season, I believe he doesn’t make the jump high enough to be worth pursuing, but if you have assets to spare he wouldn’t be a bad target.
