Nailing the mid-rounds of a fantasy football draft is just as important as hitting on the early rounds. There are plenty of starters to be found in these rounds that offer big upside. This is especially important for fantasy players that like to draft wide receivers early and wait until these rounds for a running back. Below we have identified three mid-round RBs that you should target for your team. Let’s break down each player further and highlight why you should be looking at drafting them.

The current ADP below is for Half PPR scoring.

Jamaal Williams (Saints-RB) | ADP-109 | RB-38

Jamaal Williams was one of the biggest fantasy surprises last season with the Detroit Lions. Williams came out of nowhere and led the league in rushing touchdowns (17) along with 1,000+ rushing yards. He has since landed with the New Orleans Saints and it may be a perfect scenario for him.

Alvin Kamara is dealing with a legal situation that could cause him to miss time next season due to suspension. If that happens Williams should carry a majority of the load and that’s enticing for fantasy players. The Saints also drafted Kendre Miller during the 2023 NFL Draft but expect the rookie to be eased in slowly. At this current ADP picking up Williams is a no-brainer and a must-target in the mid-rounds.

James Conner (Cardinals-RB) | ADP-74 | RB-26

It’s a bit surprising that James Conner is not higher in the current ADP. Conner will be the focal point of the offense early on for the Arizona Cardinals as they wait for Kyler Murray to return. Expect a heavy workload for Conner who showed last year that when healthy he can be a top-10 back. Health is really the only concern going forward for Conner. If he can play in all 17 games next season I expect Connor to finish the RB15 territory.

Javonte Williams (Broncos-RB) | ADP-81 | RB-29

Javonte Williams is coming back from a serious ACL injury that cut his 2022 campaign short. Early indications are that Williams is recovering well from his injury and should be ready to go when the season starts. I am a big believer in Williams in the Sean Payton system as the RB could be in for a breakout year. He has all the makings of an elite running back with his speed and ability to break tackles. In 2021 Williams led the league in broken plus missed tackles forced at 17.2%. This was almost 3% higher than Rhamondre Stevenson who came in second place. If Williams is indeed fully healthy and ready for week 1 this will end up being a steal.

The running back position has been a hot topic in the NFL recently. Saquon Barkley has voiced his displeasure at being franchise tagged and left the possibility of sitting out the 2023 season. Barkley and the Giants will likely work things out but what he is doing now is important for the future of the position. In all, 4 players who made our list of the best running backs of 2023 all have been tagged or have contract disputes.

This past offseason the top 3 running backs available were all franchise tagged. In addition, Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is also not happy about his current contract situation. If it wasn’t for a recent boost in incentives, Ekeler may have been traded. It’s important to point out these details as the real value of running backs has been debated in recent years. One thing you can’t debate is that the players below all play a critical role in their teams’ success. Let’s now look closer at the top 10 running backs in the NFL today.

10. Alvin Kamara

Alvin Kamara had a bit of a down year that we weren’t accustomed to seeing in 2022. In fact, the entire Saints offense took a step back last year and struggled to find an identity. New Orleans hopes the new addition of Derek Carr will help solve their offensive woes and help them take a step forward. Carr will open up the field again for Kamara and the running back should bounce back. Health and off-the-field issues will be a concern for Kamara but as of now, it looks like he won’t be suspended.

2022 Stats: 1,387 all purpose yards | 4 total touchdowns

9. Joe Mixon

When healthy, Joe Mixon has put up consistent numbers throughout his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon is a true three-down back in one of the league’s best offenses. In 2023, he will have the backfield all to himself as Samaje Perine is now with the Broncos. You can expect another Pro Bowl caliber year from Mixon and plenty of opportunities to score.

2022 Stats: 1,255 all purpose yards | 9 total touchdowns

8. Tony Pollard

When the Dallas Cowboys released Ezekiel Elliott this offseason it signaled a changing of the guard. They were now confident enough to let Tony Pollard be the feature back. Pollard has all the tools of a modern NFL running back. He will now get the chance to showcase those skills for Dallas. The only concern with Pollard is durability. Can he handle the full-time workload?

2022 Stats: 1,378 all purpose yards | 12 total touchdowns

7. Aaron Jones

For most of his career in Green Bay, Aaron Jones has had competition in the Packers backfield. That really hasn’t mattered as Jones has put up numbers regardless. Jones has always been a threat in the receiving game and in 2022 had 5 receiving touchdowns. Now with Aaron Rodgers out of the picture, Jones will be relied on more than ever.

2022 Stats: 1,516 all purpose yards | 7 total touchdowns

6. Saquon Barkley

The aforementioned Saquon Barkley will be playing with a chip on his shoulder next season. For what it’s worth, the Giants should’ve franchise tagged Daniel Jones and paid Barkley his due. It’s now unlikely that the two sides will agree on a new deal before the start of the season. The off-the-field noise won’t slow down Barkley’s production in 2023.

2022 Stats: 1,650 all purpose yards | 10 total touchdowns

5. Nick Chubb

Since his rookie season, Nick Chubb has rushed for 1000+ yards each year he has been in the league. Chubb has always been an old school type of running back who can carry the heavy load. He had 302 rushing attempts last season and is showing no signs of slowing down.

2002 Stats: 1,764 all purpose yards | 13 total touchdowns

4. Derrick Henry

Like Chubb, Derrick Henry is a between the tackles type of runner with breakaway speed. There were rumors this offseason that the Titans might try and trade Henry. Those rumors turned out to be false as Henry looks poised for another big year. No matter who the quarterback is for the Titans, Henry will be the focal point of this offense for the foreseeable future.

2022 Stats: 1,936 all purpose yards | 13 total touchdowns

3. Austin Ekeler

Austin Ekeler is one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL today. Line him up anywhere on the field and Ekeler will deliver. As we mentioned before this is likely Ekeler’s last season for the Chargers due to the contract situation. If he hits free agency expect a big payday for Ekeler.

2022 Stats: 1,637 all purpose yards | 18 total touchdowns

2. Josh Jacobs

Despite being franchise tagged this offseason, Josh Jacobs has been business as usual. Jacobs is a true professional who lets his game speak for itself. In 2022, Jacobs led the league in rushing yards, all purpose yards, yards per game and total touches. Even with a change at quarterback for the Raiders you can expect the gameplan to be the same. Keep feeding Jacobs.

2022 Stats: 2,053 all purpose yards | 12 total touchdowns

1. Christian McCaffrey

When Christian McCaffrey was traded to the San Francisco 49ers this past season it was a bit surprising. Kyle Shanahan has always deployed a running back by committee offensive system. By bringing in McCaffrey he knew he would have to rely heavily on his new star. The trade paid off as the 49ers were just 1 game away from the Super Bowl despite questions at quarterback. Now with a full offseason under his belt, McCaffrey is set for a monster year in San Francisco.

2022 Stats: 1,880 all purpose yards | 13 total touchdowns

Every August fans get an inside look into one of the 32 NFL teams in the hit show Hard Knocks. Most teams admit they prefer not to be chosen as it can cause distractions while planning for the season. The thing is, they don’t have a choice as the NFL will choose the team that best fits their criteria. What are the eligibility requirements for the hit show?

The NFL has laid out these specific guidelines for teams to be exempt from the Hard Knocks show. If a team appeared on Hard Knocks in the last decade they are exempt. Also if a team has a first-year Head Coach or has reached the playoffs in the last two years they are also excluded. With those requirements in mind that leaves us with four candidates for Hard Knocks 2023. Let’s break down each team and what makes them compelling.

Chicago Bears

When you look at the Chicago Bears, they are probably the least compelling of the teams eligible. If they are chosen, all eyes will be on quarterback Justin Fields. The Bears also traded this year’s #1 pick to the Carolina Panthers. As part of the deal, they received D.J. Moore in return. Chicago has lacked a real true #1 receiver in recent years and they are hoping Moore can fill that role.

New York Jets

If you want to garner a large audience then the New York Jets are your answer. They have a head coach on the hot seat and just traded for Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers alone will have fans locked into the show as we want to see how well he adjusts to his new team. The Jets also have a young talented nucleus that could set them up for years of success. The key will be how well the new faces mesh together with the up-and-coming roster. One thing is for sure, if the Jets are chosen it will not lack drama.

Washington Commanders

Washington has had arguably the best offseason of any NFL team and it has nothing to do with on-the-field moves. They will soon have a new ownership group as Dan Snyder is weeks away from being gone. Could the NFL be waiting on the final approval before picking them? Possibly, as we are now in June and a team has yet to be chosen for the show. The Commanders certainly don’t lack drama and a new era in Washington would be compelling to watch.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints made quite the splash this offseason when they signed Derek Carr to a four-year deal. Carr has to have a new level of motivation given what happened with the Raiders. On paper the Saints have the potential to be an explosive offense with Carr, Michael Thomas coming back and of course Alvin Kamara. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints end up being the choice for Hard Knocks. They may not be as captivating as the other teams but should offer enough intriguing storylines to keep us watching.

What is Javonte Williams’s Dynasty Outlook in 2023 and Beyond?

Going into last season there was a lot expected from Javonte Williams and the Broncos offense. Williams was coming off a strong finish to his rookie campaign and the Broncos pulled off a blockbuster trade for Russell Wilson. It didn’t take long to realize this new-look Broncos offense was mediocre at best. Then disaster struck and Williams tore his ACL against Oakland Raiders.

Coming into 2022, Javonte Williams was #14 RB according to FantasyPros ECR. He was firmly in the tier 3 range of running backs with big things expected. Due to his injury, he ended with just 34 FP (Half PPR). Let’s take a closer look at what to do with Javonte Williams dynasty shares going forward.

2022

In the opening game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Broncos offense as a whole struggled. They finished with just 16 points in a close loss. Williams accounted for much of the Broncos production on the day. He only had 43 yards on the ground but he was able to haul in 11 receptions for 65 yards. Most of those were short yardage dump-offs from Wilson. Williams finished the day with 14.3 FP which was his highest output of the season.

Following the loss to the Seahawks the Broncos were able to string together back-to-back wins and Williams started to gain momentum in the running game. Unfortunately, things took a turn in the week 4 matchup against the Raiders. Williams went down with an ACL injury which shut him down for the rest of the season.

2023

Looking ahead to next season, the biggest question with Javonte Williams is how well he is progressing from his injury. We received some good news recently as according to Head Coach Sean Payton, Williams participated in OTA’s albeit in a limited fashion. It’s certainly a great indicator that he may be ready for the upcoming season with no setbacks. The addition of Sean Payton is also what excites me with Williams’s potential. I could see Williams taking on an Alvin Kamara type of role in the new-look offense. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how Russell Wilson can bounce back from an awful 2022. If Payton can work his magic this offense could really make some noise.

Javonte Williams Dynasty Value

So what is the current value of Javonte Williams dynasty shares? He is hovering around the #15 RB range and stayed pretty steady. I can see that trending upward as we get into training camp and see how well he is progressing. As for right now, he is a BUY as some have already given up on him. I would be willing to roll the dice and grab him at a discount if you can. If Williams comes back fully healthy it could be a major steal.

Will Cook or Kamara have a better 2022 season?

By Charles Vakassian

Last time we did a head-to-head article, we looked at the two best running backs in the NFL Saquon Barkley and Nick Chubb. Today, we’ll be looking at a pair of veteran running backs who may be nearing the end of their respective primes.

DALVIN COOK RUNS IT IN FOR THE VIKINGS TOUCHDOWN!! pic.twitter.com/hmWJiGVsyU
— Brian Y (@byysports) October 9, 2022

Cook

2022 stats: 81 carries, 337 yards, 3 TDs, 11 catches on 15 targets, 74 yards (4.6 YPC)

Cook has been nothing short of a workhorse for the Vikings this year. With the exception of Week 2 against the Eagles, Cook has garnered at least 17 carries and 75 yards rushing each game. The touchdowns were slow to arrive, but he just scored twice last week, signaling positive regression in that area.

Kamara

2022 stats: 47 carries, 203 yards, 0 TDs, 11 catches on 17 targets, 110 yards (4.3 YPC)

Kamara has seen his 2022 derailed with injuries, causing him to miss multiple games. He has yet to reach the end one, partially due to Taysom Hill vulturing touchdowns, and a pass-heavy offense. Having Andy Dalton under center is also a handicap to the capabilities of the offense, and limits the scoring opportunities for everyone, Kamara included.

Head to Head Comp

Kamara has been the better receiving back, getting more targets and yards through the air than Cook. However, Cook has been the best on the ground, averaging more yards per carry and scoring three times. Kamara has yet to see the end zone. Cook also operates in a much more efficient and high powered offense, with Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen making sure defenses cannot stack the box against the run. Kamara does not always have that same luxury, with the Saints receivers decimated by injuries.

Outlook for 2022 and Beyond

Both backs are at the age of 27 and locked into extensions signed with their teams. Cook and Kamara have significant injury histories as well, which does not bode well for their long-term success. And unless your name is Derrick Henry, running backs do not age particularly well. 27 is right toward the end of their effective running days. While both backs are in very similar boats, the slight edge goes to Cook, who has the better QB and offense around him. More touchdown opportunities are everything.

Buy Josh Jacobs

By: Jake Rajala

The fantasy football landscape is heating up with the main entree of Week 5 kicking off tomorrow. There were more surprises, failures, & steady performances from fantasy profiles last week. In particular, there were fascinating RB performances in Week 4. With that said, I’m going to highlight the RB position by unveiling one elite RB to buy, two elite RBs to sell, and an elite RB to hold at this point. Let’s begin.

Josh Jacobs took some defenders with him into the end zone ? @iAM_JoshJacobs

?: #DENvsLV on CBS
?: Stream on NFL+ https://t.co/qvpR1tCMp1 pic.twitter.com/4QnfxbtomK
— NFL (@NFL) October 2, 2022

Buy: Josh Jacobs

It’s easy to hate Josh McDaniels, but it’s hard to not love the Week 4 effort by RB Josh Jacobs. The Raiders RB1 unleashed 144 rushing yards on 28 carries and 2 rushing TDs against the pitiful Denver Broncos. After not being able to oust 70+ rushing yards in each of his first three contests, he really yielded his will a week ago. Jacobs will have a favorable match-up in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs and in Week 7 against the Houston Texans (after a bye week in Week 6). Jacobs is slotted as the 12th-best RB by Fantasy Pros, but I believe he should continue to climb the ladder moving forward.

The Week 4 Angry Runs nominees:

? @haydenrhurst (@Bengals)
? @iAM_JoshJacobs (@Raiders)
? @JamesConner_ (@AZCardinals)

Who gets the scepter?@KyleBrandt, the floor is yours… pic.twitter.com/LK2pCL36de
— Good Morning Football (@gmfb) October 4, 2022

Sell: Joe Mixon

Steve Schwarz of FF Today nicely noted how Mixon is dragging his feet this season, largely because the Bengals OL is embarrassing up to this point. Mixon has only averaged 2.7 YPC on a whopping 82 attempts. The Bengals OL may have brought in new faces this off-season, but their continuity clearly isn’t working out. I don’t love Mixon or Burrow’s 2022 outlook — which may have hangover spelled all over it.

Sell: Leonard Fournette

Playoff Lenny was like a lightning bolt in Week 1 by ousting 127 rushing yards in Week 1. He then slid down the point of no return by registering 65 rushing yds in Week 2, 35 rushing yds in Week 3, and somehow -3 rushing yds in Week 4. Furthermore, rookie Rachaad White had 38% of the snaps last weekend. Fournette also doesn’t have the most glorious schedule moving forward (which includes the Steelers and the Rams in the near future).

POV: you bet the over Leonard Fournette rushing yards pic.twitter.com/LN8nMI4cFT
— FanDuel Sportsbook (@FDSportsbook) October 3, 2022

Hold: Alvin Kamara

Alvin Kamara should have the green light in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks, but it’s well noted that he hasn’t been an all-purpose machine. He has a mere five catches on the season & it’s worth mentioning that Jameis Winston has been MIA or a loose cannon (four touchdowns and five ints on the season). With that said, I do really anticipate Andy Dalton to continue to be effective. Dalton had a 108.6 passer rating against the Vikings last week — despite not having Michael Thomas and Kamara. He should be the worst-case scenario at QB moving forward.

Trade away these RBs

By: Jake Rajala

Week 1 was so entertaining that it seemed more like a simulation than real-life. It’s clear that the dynasty fantasy football landscape has been exhilarating following Week 1 – especially at the pivotal RB spot. With that stated, I’m going to simply untwine a few faces at the RB spot to ship out for dynasty owners.

Didn’t know Alvin Kamara went back to college to play for Alabama pic.twitter.com/UpQz9VinFy
— Nico (@elitetakes_) September 17, 2022

Alvin Kamara

I love Michael Thomas & I don’t love Alvin Kamara, particularly the long-term outlook for AK. Thomas really proved to the world that he deserves to garner expectations to be a Top-5 WR with a healthy form. Furthermore, I expect Jameis Winston to continue to toss it around the yard to Jarvis Landry, who might have had his best-ever day as a deep threat in Week 1. The Saints will still incorporate 2022 first-round pick Chris Olave more and more into their aerial attack. I don’t believe AK will be overly involved as a pass-catcher moving forward (which may seem surprising) and it should be noted that Kamara still has a date with a suspension in 2023. I believe it would be best to ship him out soon.

James Cook

The Buffalo Bills dropped 31 points on the mighty Los Angeles Rams defense in Week 1 without the help of the expected rookie star James Cook. Well, the brother of Dalvin Cook had a nightmare intro to his NFL career — as he had a fumble on his only carry in the second quarter. I believe Cook, who is slotted as the 28th best RB in dynasty RB rankings by Fantasy Pros, is overrated & should be sent off your team.

All of rookie RB and fantasy daring James Cook’s touches from Week 1… pic.twitter.com/D2O5dImGVi
— Matt FF Dynasty ?

Leonard Fournette

Leonard Fournette is fresh off a monster performance (127 rushing yds, 6.0 YPC), but I don’t believe his hype will maintain itself. Playoff Lenny only ousted a 100+ rushing yard contest twice last season. He’s also missed 3+ games in each of the past two seasons. He’s also having issues with a hamstring right now, too. I believe a team may overcompensate for the recent, unusually productive performance by the 27-year-old RB.

Who is the most overrated dynasty running back

By: Jake Rajala

The dynasty fantasy football world is firing off on all cylinders right now. With that said, I’m going to highlight the pivotal running back spot – as I untwine five overrated dynasty running backs.

Rashaad Penny

The explosive Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny hasn’t quite been a consistent force in the league. Unfortunately, he hasn’t played more than 10 games in each of the past three seasons. Furthermore, He will be splitting the rock with the former Michigan State Spartan Kenneth Walker moving forward. Walker has seen more action with Penny already nursing injuries in training camp.

This is the kind of runner everyone expected Rashad Penny to be when he left college.

This run is ? pic.twitter.com/iuNEULKjWz
— JDV Experience (@JDVexperience) December 12, 2021

Clyde Edwards-Helaire

I love the Kansas City Chiefs RB depth so much that I am not head over heels for RB1 Clyde Edwards-Helaire. I predict Jerick “Jet” McKinnon to be more involved and productive in the Chiefs offensive attack. Of course, Ronald Jones will be a game-changer in unique ways with the Patrick Mahomes-led offense. CEH, who still gets undeserved respect for the first-round badge and bunk bed with Mahomes, should be traded away.

Josh Jacobs

I don’t expect the Las Vegas Raiders to ship away Josh Jacobs, but I don’t believe he will elevate his game and ascend into the same caliber RB as Nick Chubb. Jacobs will share meat on the bone with the fresh rookie Zamir White. NFL.com analyst Lance Zeirlein dubbed White as a pivotal rookie for the Raiders. It’s also obvious that Davante Adams and a healthy Darren Waller will eat up a lot of attention in the Raiders passing game.

From Inside Training Camp: Would the #Raiders trade their best RB? Nah. pic.twitter.com/yIa4z7Y0uP
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 7, 2022

Alvin Kamara

It appears that Saints fans are happy that Alvin Kamara will not be punished by the league in 2022. However, the grim reaper will leave his mark on AK in the following season. Kamara is climbing up in age, in a loaded passing offense, and approaching a sure-fire suspension. Hence, It would be wise to find a lucrative offer to trade him away now.

James Robinson

The times are changing in the Jaguars back-field with a healthy Travis Etienne. The former Clemson RB missed the entire 2021 season, but he is back and ready to handle the load in Doug Pederson’s offense. Although, I don’t expect Etienne or Robinson to have the most stable success behind the Jags OL. I am less optimistic that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the veteran James Robinson. He is also still nursing an Achilles injury.

Who is the best RB heading into the 2022 season?

By: Jake Rajala

Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season is steadily approaching & it’s obvious that it will feel great to hear Scott Hanson’s voice each weekend. It will clearly be thrilling to witness next-level quarterbacks and talented running backs dazzle on the field. With that stated, I’m going to highlight the RB spot and project the ten best RB performances in the 2022 season.

Christian McCaffrey getting in an early workout. Imagine it’ll be the extent of his work today. pic.twitter.com/taxl6hFuiT
— Bill Voth (@PanthersBill) August 13, 2022

Christian McCaffrey

I really believe a healthy Christian McCaffrey is the scariest RB in the league. CMAC was second-team All-Pro in his sophomore season and then he really blossomed in his junior campaign — where he garnered 2,392 all-purpose yds, 19 combined touchdowns, and was named first-team All-Pro. Sadly, he’s only played in 10 games over the prior two seasons combined. I still feel deeply positive about his all-around outlook as a healthy, motivated, 26-year-old that doesn’t have an abundance of tread on his tires.

Jonathan Taylor

It’s hard to ignore the talent, consistency, and situation that JT is in. Taylor garnered 1,811 rushing yds and 18 rushing TDs last season — which led him to garner first-team All-Pro honors and place second in OPOY voting. Taylor could be slightly leaned on less in the offense with Matt Ryan and his backfield is a bit more talented than last season – as these two factors could slightly hurt Taylor’s overall production.

Jonathan Taylor led all running back’s in yards against 8-plus man fronts with 518 yards #FantasyFootball pic.twitter.com/2vUXtlpk5f
— Jeremy (@PopesFFH) August 7, 2022

Alvin Kamara

The New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is authentic and a superb RB. AK has made the Pro Bowl in each season. The Saints <s>skat-back’s</s> superior, all-around RB’s best season unequivocally came in 2020 – where he unleashed 1,688 total yds and 21 combined TDs (which resulted in getting second-team All-Pro honors). He had another fantastic output last season: 1,337 total yds and 9 combined TDs in 13 games.

According to Fantasy Pros, a suspension for Kamara is also likely to occur in 2023.

Alvin Kamara really scored SIX touchdowns on Christmas Day last year!

Who's going to have a big game tomorrow? pic.twitter.com/QmU3oxnTm9
— NFL UK (@NFLUK) December 24, 2021

Dalvin Cook

The Minnesota Vikings running back is an extremely electric RB and he should continue to belittle his opponents in 2022. The Vikings RB ran angry for 13 touchdowns and 1,135 yds in 2019 and then managed to run for 16 TDs and 1,557 yds in 2020. Cook missed four contests last season, but he still unveiled 1,159 rushing yds six rushing TDs. I believe there is still room for a couple of top-tier seasons in his football life.

Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry has an old-school mentality and he’s also explosive. Henry ran angry for 1,540 yds and 16 rushing TDs in 2020 and then proceeded to bulldoze opponents for 2,027 yds and 17 rushing TDs (which led him to win Offensive Player of The Year in 2020). It appeared that Henry was on a rampage until he suffered a broken football in Week 8 – which caused him to miss nine contests. Father time will have an impact on Henry, but he should absolutely be an elite RB in 2022.

Feels like a good day to watch a few minutes of @KingHenry_2 going beast mode for @AlabamaFTBL pic.twitter.com/MZz7zhGM50
— CBS Sports (@CBSSports) August 9, 2022

Nick Chubb

It may seem blasphemous to peg Nick Chubb at this spot, but I feel more inspired by the other ball carriers. Still, Chubb should be a top-tier RB for yet another season. The Browns RB1 (sitting in front of Kareem Hunt – who has seemed to bury the hatchet with CLE), ran angry for 1,259 yds and 8 TDs last season. PFF slabbed him an 81.7 grade for his 2021 performance.

Nick Chubb RB1 #Browns pic.twitter.com/CpytLcO21b
— Tyler Johnson (@T_johnson_TJ) August 6, 2022

Elijah Mitchell

I believe that Elijah Mitchell is one of the most underrated skill players in the league. Mitchell was quite potent behind the Trent Williams-led OL in only nine games a season ago: 963 rushing yds and five rushing TDs. The 49ers full back Kyle Juszczyk and former Harvard grad believes that Mitchell’s ability to simplify things in the 49ers offense led to his success as a rook. Juszczyk stated, “It’s a complicated offense, and sometimes the best way to come into a complicated offense and be successful is to simplify things. And I think that’s something that Elijah did in his first year. You talk about the wide zone and it being a one-cut offense. That’s how Elijah approached it, and that, I think, is his strength….He’s decisive and he just puts his foot in the ground and gets upfield. ook. Mitchell obtained a 76.3 grade by PFF for his 2021 outcome, too. With that said, I do expect Trey Sermon, who has impressed this off-season, to be more involved in the 49ers offense in his second season (which should put a dink on Mitchell’s production).

Saquon Barkley

The New York Giants running back is far from dead in my opinion. Barkley’s best season was in his rookie year (2,028 total yds and 15 combined touchdowns) and then he accumulated 1,441 total yards in 13 games as a sophomore. Unfortunately, disaster struck the young, gifted RB (as he suffered a torn ACL after two games in 2020). He also sat out of four games last season – or was playing healthy behind a brutal OL in the other 13 match-ups. I suspect Barkley to return to the PB behind a much-improved OL in the upcoming season.

"Last year, I was at a point where I was not really confident in myself. Now, I'm so free and so loose."

– Saquon Barkley pic.twitter.com/OOsdRoiwUU
— Giants Videos (@SNYGiants) August 12, 2022

Joe Mixon

The reigning AFC Champion, Joe Mixon, is slightly in the shadow of the Bengals impressive QB-WR duo. Nonetheless, let’s not forget that Mixon is a dangerous bell cow RB (1,205 rushing yds and 13 rushing TDs last season). PFF nicely gave the Bengals RB a 79.5 grade for his 2021 outcome. Mixon will also benefit next season from an improved OL (as Cincy brought in Alex Cappa, C Ted Karras, and of course: La’el Collins).

Austin Ekeler

The Los Angeles Chargers have a surreal QB-RB combination (between Justin Herbert & Austin Ekeler). The Chargers versatile ball-carrier had a personal-best 911 rushing yards with a career-high 647 receiving yds last season. Furthermore, Ekeler had total of 20 touchdowns — which undoubtedly edged out his previous single-season best total TD count (11). Ekeler should have worse rushing production than last season with Isaiah Spiller in the RB room, but his all-around ability in a high-powered offense should still help register around 1,300 all-purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns.

By: Jake Rajala

The New Orleans royalty Jarvis Landry agrees to a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints today. The 29-year-old wide receiver will join fellow Saints weapons Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, and Alvin Kamara. It’s clear that Jameis Winston is licking his chops with the new firepower in his offense.

WHO DAT ?? pic.twitter.com/UKlnZRfeva
— Jarvis Juice Landry (@God_Son80) May 13, 2022

Deshaun Watson might have picked the Cleveland Browns over the Saints, but Landry’s heart clearly chose to make magic happen in the Caesars Superdome next season. The former Brown made each Pro Bowl from 2015 to 2019. The former LSU WR ran a slow 4.77 40-yard dash at his NFL combine, but he didn’t fail to become a star WR in the NFL.

Landry has been a pillar of consistency in his career, but he did his worst season of productivity in 2021. He missed a career-high five games last season, while his QB Baker Mayfield fell off a cliff. So, it’s reasonable that Landry wasn’t a stud in a Browns offense that also witnessed OBJ perform at a mediocre level.

How OBJ leaving the Browns pic.twitter.com/TCnKGJKQsO
— Josiah Johnson (@KingJosiah54) November 5, 2021

Landry is still a very good football player and I expect him to be in a superb situation with the Saints long-time OC Pete Carmichael and big-arm QB in Winston. Landry has often been the NFL’s top slot WR and he can shine in the slot for NO, while Thomas and Olave can be stars from out-wide. It will be quite difficult for opponents to prepare for the speed of Olave while giving Thomas and Landry tough matchup-ups.

The Saints ranked 32nd in passing last season and I would be shocked if they weren’t a Top 10 passing offense next season. They will likely sling the rock without Alvin Kamara in his six-game absence and they are really able to throw the ball in the short game and deep down the field. I believe the 2021 Bengals passing offense is a potential realistic comparison for the 2022 Saints passing offense. The Bengals had three WRs with 800+ receiving yards, while Joe Burrow was fifth in passing yards and eighth in passing touchdowns. It can be hard to believe mystic growth, but Winston’s 2021 production combined with his new weapons could lead him to become a stat (hopefully, not a turnover) machine in 2022.
