Theoretical trades for the Cincinnati Bengals

By: Jake Rajala

The Cincinnati Bengals haven’t been a dreamy AFC squad up to this point (2-3 on the season). It’s safe to say that they really need to get being an AFC enforcer soon. I believe it would be wise for them to make a trade to re-gain their swag and mojo in 2022. Hence, I’m going to untwine a few potential trades for the Cincinnati Bengals asap.

Trade for Andrus Peat

The Bengals OL is still a serious work in progress. Joe Mixon has been a medicore RB (302 rushing yards, 3.1 YPC, and a lone rushing TD). Joe Burrow also hasn’t taken the next step after his heroic 2021 season. A monster reason that the Bengal QB-RB duo has been performing below its capability is the talent of the OL. Perhaps the Bengals should target a talented, versatile interior OL to help their offense click. I believe that Andrus Peat would be the perfect pick-up for <s>Who Dat Nation</s> Who Dey Nation.

Andrus Peat introducing himself to Panthers rookie Jeremy Chinn on the screen. pic.twitter.com/icRBc1fpUT
— Luke Johnson (@ByLukeJohnson) October 26, 2020

Trade for Ambry Thomas

The Bengals could benefit from the arrival of another CB that excel at numerous spots on defense. Ambry Thomas (San Francisco 49ers) has freak talent, but he hasn’t gotten into a rhythm with the 49ers defense. He’s also in his sophomore season and he brings plenty of potential to any team.

Trade for Michael Carter

The Bengals may also need more juice at their pivotal RB spot. It would be sexy if the Bengals added another talented, young RB to their mix. Michael Carter has a plethora of up-side, but he hasn’t been able to stand out with Breece Hall securing the lead-back role. Carter could also make Mixon expendable if he doesn’t return to Pro Bowl form.

Who is the most overrated player on the Saints?

By: Jake Rajala

The New Orleans Saints have ascended into a popular bandwagon team this off-season. I don’t believe that the Saints ability to win a championship with Jameis Winston is a foolish thought, but I do reconcile that there are many profiles on the Saints that don’t deserve a lot of hype. With that said, I’m going to simply outline three overrated players on the Saints at this moment.

Andrus Peat 2021 Highlights: pic.twitter.com/vz3YUxBLUs
— Joe Horns Cell Phone ? (@JoeHornsPhone) September 21, 2021

Andrus Peat

The former Stanford offensive lineman that impressed Sean Payton with his quickness in his draft process hasn’t lived up to his five-year extension worth $57 million. He scored a 52.1 PFF grade last season while missing 10 games. After the Saints were unable to retain the talented Terron Armstead at the key LT position, they realized Peat’s hefty contract on the offensive front may not have been the best idea. On the bright side, Peat did play in 13+ games in 2018 (Pro Bowl selection) and 2020 (Pro Bowl selection), so the 28-year-old could stay healthy and be due for a Pro Bowl season in 2022.

Zack Baun

It would be an understatement to say that Zack Baun hasn’t lived up to expectations in his Saints tenure thus far. After the Saints traded up to select him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, he has barely touched the field in his two seasons. He simply has 42 combined tackles and 0 sacks in his career. The 2022 season will tell whether the amped-up special teams player can be trusted as a quality LB for the long-term.

Payton on the vision for LB Zack Baun#SaintsDraft pic.twitter.com/8KYtKXT8gJ
— New Orleans Saints (@Saints) April 25, 2020

Marquez Callaway

Marquez Callaway hasn’t quite lived up to his 2021 pre-season performance against Jacksonville. The scrappy and talented UDFA WR can potentially grow into becoming a WR3 (or maybe WR2) on a team not in the Big Easy. The Saints have a healthy Michael Thomas, gifted rookie Chris Olave, and they even brought Jarvis Landry back home this off-season. After the Top-3 Saints WRs, I expect the elusive and special teams star Deonte Harty to be involved with Callaway for screens and long bombs on occasion. I fully expect him to take a significant drop-off from his 698 yard and 6 touchdown campaign last season.

Will Alvin Kamara return to his old self?

By: Jake Rajala

The NFL gods have gifted the league with many talented running backs. Derrick Henry won Offensive Player of The Year in 2020 and Jonathan Taylor was a Top 5 OPOY candidate in 2021. There is still a lot of meat on the bone for RB success in the professional football league in my opinion.

Derrick Henry’s Historic 2020 Season
? Outrushed 23 of 31 teams
? First 2k rusher without a Pro Bowl OL
? First 2k rusher to have QB with 3,500+ pass yards
? 3 games with 200 yards + 2 TDs pic.twitter.com/AWOItS7xyO
— Tennessee Titans (@Titans) February 7, 2021

There are many supreme RBs that have been injured or underperformed in recent memory. Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey have been banged up, while Ezekiel Elliot hasn’t been overly impressive in each of the past two seasons. Alvin Kamara also had a strange, slightly disappointing season in a Saints offense that unveiled musical chairs at OL.

I believe the outlook of Kamara is very enticing because I believe he holds the most mysterious outlook. He is almost 27 years old, facing a suspension, and he’s been playing behind an uncertain OL. With that said, I’m going to unfold the outlook of AK.

In honor of it being Christmas, here’s Alvin Kamara scoring 6 touchdowns one year ago today. pic.twitter.com/L9pgi0oQyB
— Chris Rosvoglou (@RosvoglouReport) December 25, 2021

Alvin Kamara

I don’t love the idea of AK being the “old Kamara” for next season, to say the least. The Saints lost Terron Armstead, who was arguably their top OL last season. Armstead missed 9 games last season and Kamara “coincidentally” unveiled a career-low 3.7 YPC (his previous career-low was 4.6 YPC). I expect NO to address the LT spot with their extra first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but I believe a potential rookie LT will be a step below Armstead in 2022. More importantly, I fully expect Kamara to likely miss six games next season because of his unfortunate incident in Las Vegas.

I expect Kamara to always be heavily in the backfield in the passing game and noticeably more effective with Ingram “after 2022”. I believe the Saints knew he would be really involved for a long time when they gave him a massive contract extension in 2020. Kamara had a modest 33.8 receiving yards per game last season and I expect that tally to be his floor moving forward. His 2022 season is uncertain, while Ingram is a major sleeper in my opinion.

Nonetheless, Kamara is really an amazing worker and he should keep a unique role in Pete Carmichael’s offense as a legit passing threat (and RB weapon) for 4-5 more seasons in my opinion.

AK finished as the RB1 in 2020 and he took a significant dip in 2021. I don’t expect him to return as a Top 5 RB without Armstead and Payton, but he should be a stud in a sexier offense in 2023 and beyond. He’s currently ranked as the 10th best RB in dynasty (PPR) via Fantasy Pros. I would put him at number 8 right now (ahead of Dalvin Cook and Antonio Gibson). I believe his number 1 ranking in 2020 was a big part of the success of his Top 3 RT Ryan Ramczyk. It’s not talked about enough how his absence in 2021 (missed seven games) affected Kamara.

The Saints very athletic guard Andrus Peat also missed “11 games” last season.

I really expect Kamara to be excellent as an all-purpose RB with a healthier OL and an older Ingram beyond his probable six-game suspension next season.
