Bills to sign TE Tyler Eifert?

By: Pat Pitts

The 2020 season brought a lot of teams’ hope for the future. A majority of the league leaders are younger than 25. However, sometimes you need to look towards veteran leadership to bring you towards a championship.

The Bills watched Dawson Knox depart in free agency, leaving a gap at the tight end position. No, Charles Clay does not suffice as a “viable replacement.” The position has been one team has been able to develop internally over the past few seasons.

Darren Waller walked into training camp two seasons ago praying for a spot on the roster. Dallas Goedert lines up next to Zach Ertz and still has top 12 TE stats.

The Bills need a reliable, trustworthy tight end that Josh Allen can rely on in the midst of crucial 3rd downs and red zone attempts. Almost ¼ of Aaron Rodgers’s touchdowns last season came from a tight end; he won MVP over Josh Allen.

To reach the next level of competition, the Bills need to make one more move. A move to enhance the talent around Allen, while increasing his stats in the process. Who is that tight end?

Tyler Eifert.

Jaguars expected to decline team option for TE Tyler Eifert (per @RapSheet)https://t.co/k7YaUUfUpc pic.twitter.com/Tn2VhtU1dp
— Around The NFL (@AroundTheNFL) February 23, 2021

Why should the Bills sign Tyler Eifert?

*It’s elementary dear Watson GIF, if possible*

Since 2017, every Super Bowl champion has started a tight end that ranked top 3 in team targets, catches, and touchdowns. Meanwhile, the hottest new running back signs an extension with a team for over 3 championship-less years and maybe a rushing title to show for it.

The tight end position matters to win games.

Tyler Eifert is not the flashiest name, but a reliable one throughout his career. In his best season, Eifert saw 74 targets, caught 58 passes for 615 yards. He found the end zone eleven times, It was the fifth-most in the league. The Bengals made a playoff appearance.

They lost, but not because of Eifert. That is not why we are here.

Eifert’s stellar performance led his team to a playoff birth. That was all he could do. In Buffalo, he can take a back seat.

The Bills losing to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game hinted that it would not be their last time there. They have one of the top rosters in the league and great coaching staff. It is a great spot for any free agent.

Tyler Eifert shows a little something with well-placed target from Minshew for TD #Jaguars pic.twitter.com/DOc7rCA7zO
— Matt Waldman (@MattWaldman) September 20, 2020

What does Eifert bring to the offense?

Tyler Eifert fits into the current tight end situation around the league. His passing catching ability surpasses his blocking ability, making him more of a threat on offense. He provides Josh Allan a safety blanket in the red zone.

In 2015, Eifert caught all of his 11 touchdowns inside the red zone, eight being caught from inside the five. He caught 80% of his targets as well.

The Bills have surrounded Josh Allen with a great supporting cast on offense. Tyler Eifert fills a void the Bills must fill before training camp. He has the experience, talent, and leadership abilities to enhance this team’s chance at a Lombardi.

Andy Dalton may even help in the recruitment process. Make it happen.

The Bills should reunite with CB Josh Norman

By: Reese Nasser

After spending time as one of the top corners in the league for nearly half a decade, Josh Norman’s career has begun to somewhat fall off. Norman will be 34 years old in December and injuries have slowly started to catch up with him. Norman appeared in only 9 games last season for the Buffalo Bills after starting the season on injured reserve and also finding his way onto the Covid-19 list. Even with these problems, it doesn’t mean that Norman’s time in the NFL is done just yet. Here’s why the Buffalo Bills should bring him back for one more run.

Leadership Aspect

Josh Norman has been in the NFL for nine seasons and has appeared in 120 career games. His knowledge of the game is clear or else he wouldn’t have lasted this long in a league that is always looking for your replacement. For a while, there was a real argument that he may be the best corner in the NFL. It is also worth mentioning that the Bills secondary, while talented with players such as Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, is still young and inexperienced. Outside of Tre’davious White, the cornerback room is somewhat poor. Having a seasoned veteran like Norman in the locker room could be what helps take this team to the next level. He can offer insight and be a voice that this team does not already have.

The Bills are clearly a superbowl contender. Every contender needs a strong leader, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had Ndamukong Suh in 2020 and the Kansas City Chiefs had Terrell Suggs in 2019. Both players were brought in because of their experience and knowledge. Now Bills fans will hope that Norman will be able to play more of a role similar to Suh’s where he still played at a high level and contributed both on the field and off.

Still Able to Play

The ability to still make an impact is there for Norman. While only appearing in nine games last season, Norman still recorded 24 tackles and 1 interception. He has proven that even with injuries, he can still play at a relatively high level. As previously noted, the Bills cornerback room is still young and that lack of experience was clear at some points last season. Having a player like Norman able to rotate in and play when needed could prove to be vital for the Bills.

TUA GETS PICK-SIXED BY JOSH NORMAN ?

Bills are blowing out the Dolphins ?

(via @NFL) pic.twitter.com/mZafE9abYy
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) January 3, 2021

While Tre’Davious White has made it clear that he is a top corner in the league, nobody else on that team has proven to be a solid number two yet. Norman being there could be used as a chance for the younger corners to still prepare and become more accustomed to the NFL game.

At 33 years old, Norman’s services may not cost the Bills too much money. His ability to still perform and what he brings to the table might make him worth resigning. If I am Buffalo, I am doing whatever may get me to the superbowl. If signing Norman is what it takes, I would do it with no questions asked. He has proven himself worthy of the opportunity, so let the man ball.
