<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Latest Vikings offensive line outlook</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By: Jake Rajala</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Minnesota Vikings have a Pro Bowl-caliber QB in Kirk Cousins and top-end firepower on their offense in Justin Jefferson, Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Irv Smith Jr. Although, they don&#8217;t exactly have a surreal offensive line. <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-unit-rankings-tiers-2022">PFF </a>ranked the Vikings offensive line as the 19th best offensive line in the league. The Vikings OL consists of Christian Darrisaw, Ezra Cleveland, Garrett Bradbury, Ed Ingram, and Brian O&#8217;Neill. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Running behind Christian Darrisaw seems to work quite well <a href="https://t.co/MuWLqsc23g">pic.twitter.com/MuWLqsc23g</a></p>&mdash; Will Ragatz (@WillRagatz) <a href="https://twitter.com/WillRagatz/status/1457412201736769538?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 7, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The LT Christian Darrisaw notched a 71.9 grade (with 5 sacks allowed) by PFF last season &#8212; which isn&#8217;t bad for a rookie. He also missed five games last season. The healthy 23-year-old and 2021 first-round pick could really blossom in his sophomore season. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Vikings need more consistency from their LG Ezra Cleveland. He was famously PFF&#8217;s number one ranked player in Week 12, but he did have his weak moments. Although, he was an actual iron-man player for the Vikings &#8211; as he didn&#8217;t miss a single snap in 2021. If he has a quality 2022 season, it may be wise for the Vikings to extend him next off-season. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Vikings love to pull Ezra Cleveland and plays like this G counter show exactly why. Whew: <a href="https://t.co/pLfjMDMAbg">pic.twitter.com/pLfjMDMAbg</a></p>&mdash; Nick Olson (@NickOlsonNFL) <a href="https://twitter.com/NickOlsonNFL/status/1469504361550204934?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 11, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The center Garrett Bradbury was notably the first player in Vikings history to start all 16 games at center. Nonetheless, the player that was once thrown into the fire as a young starter hasn&#8217;t nearly been productive enough for the Vikings. The Vikings expressed their distaste for the center &#8211; as his fifth-year option was declined. He certainly needs to have a strong 2022 campaign. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Vikings showcase Ed Ingram and Brian O&#8217;Neill on their right side of the OL. Ingram was the Vikings second-round pick in the 2022 draft and he may just be the x-factor on the OL moving forward. He registered the best pass blocking grade (82.6) by PFF among SEC guards last season. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Ed Ingram WALLOP <a href="https://t.co/hYRI1DIkip">pic.twitter.com/hYRI1DIkip</a></p>&mdash; Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) <a href="https://twitter.com/colecubelic/status/1449418240392839168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 16, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Brian O&#8217;Neill was a modest RT last season (1 sack allowed and a 73.4 grade by PFF). Josh Frey from the <a href="https://purpleptsd.com/2022/top_news/brian-oneill-listed-as-honorable-mention-in-espns-top-10-list/">Purple PTSD</a> nicely picked O&#8217;Neill as the most underrated Viking heading into the 2022 season. He inked a hefty five-year extension for $92.5 million in September of last season. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Vikings may not have a favorable ranking by PFF, but they were absolutely able to keep Kirk Cousins upright last season. They allowed the fifth-least amount of sacks in 2021. If they can have early production from Ingram and Cleveland can stay healthy, they should be able to do another superb job of keeping Cousins safe in the passing game. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Minnesota Vikings have new energy under first-year head coach Kevin O&#8217;Connell. With that said, I&#8217;m going to simply untwine three profiles to keep an eye on in OTAs &#8211; as they could turn heads in 2022. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Kevin O’Connell when asked if he owns a winter coat? <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Vikings?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Vikings</a> <a href="https://t.co/rw5vrNP1JX">pic.twitter.com/rw5vrNP1JX</a></p>&mdash; ? (@Jefferson4MVP) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jefferson4MVP/status/1489791444068052992?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 5, 2022</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Irv Smith Jr.</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Vikings 23-year-old TE Irv Smith Jr. hauled in five touchdowns (in 13 games) in 2020. Unfortunately, Smith Jr. missed the entire 2021 season via a meniscus injury. I really expect the athletic TE returns healthy, improve his tool-kit, and be quite involved under his creative HC. Per <a href="https://vikingsterritory.com/2022/vikings-insider/the-gms-view/irv-smith-jr-is-primed-for-a-big-year-ota-impressions">Vikings Territory</a>, Smith has already had great communication with Cousins and he also feels that he will be targeted a lot in the offense. Smith Jr. should honestly have superb match-ups with Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Dalvin Cook mostly hogging the attention of opposing defenses.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Christian Darrisaw</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Vikings 2021 first-round draft pick Christian Darrisaw had a roller-coaster rookie season. Most importantly, he progressed as the season 2021 season evolved. <a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-second-year-breakout-candidates-2022-nfl-season">PFF </a>graded his five best games in the final six games of the season. The high-powered offense will desperately need consistent, blind-side protection and the confident Darrisaw should continue to build off his recent rookie performances. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Christian Darrisaw had a very impressive rookie debut starting at LT today. Explosive out of his stance, easy mover for his size, and packs a heck of a wallop moving bodies and stopping would-be bull rushers in their tracks. Few things to clean up but he&#39;s got a bright future. <a href="https://t.co/hqm516k5g7">pic.twitter.com/hqm516k5g7</a></p>&mdash; Nick Olson (@NickOlsonNFL) <a href="https://twitter.com/NickOlsonNFL/status/1449915138400833538?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 18, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Cameron Dantzler</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The third-year CB Cameron Dantzler is off to a good start in 2022. Per <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/news/vikings-cornerback-cameron-dantzler-added-more-weight-his-frame">Inside the Vikings</a>, Dantzler has added more weight to his frame this off-season. He&#8217;s also gotten stronger and quicker. His weakness was his size, but it&#8217;s clear that he really became well-rounded this off-season. With Patrick Peterson at CB1, the young CB could aspire to bully WR2s on a frequent basis moving forward.</p>
