Zack Martin has without question been one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL over the last several seasons, and easily the league’s best player at offensive guard. He’s made perennial Pro Bowl and first or second-team All-Pro selections since coming into the league in 2014. In Dallas Cowboys lore, he’s one of the best offensive linemen in the franchise’s storied history, alongside the likes of Larry Allen and Rayfield Wright.

It shouldn’t be the least bit controversial to say that Martin is a future Hall-of-Famer. Among the things that he does extraordinarily well are the fundamentals of the position. He hasn’t had more than two penalties in a season since 2015, just his second season in the NFL. In 2017, he played the entire 16-game regular season with not a single penalty. That’s an incredible accomplishment for an offensive lineman.

Martin’s ability to prevent pressure on his quarterback is also one of his strongest assets. The most sacks he’s ever allowed in a season was three in 2018. In all other seasons, that number has been between zero and two. Other top offensive guards in the NFL don’t match the consistency or the overall quality that he has, and this season is yet another showcase of this so far.

Martin has always been quick with his hands, great with his positioning, and, for a man of his size and stature, very athletic. This is what has allowed him to have such an advantage over opposing defenders for as long as he has. These skills have allowed him to become just one of 12 players in NFL history to be named to at least five first-team All-Pro teams, a list that includes names like Luke Kuechly, Lawrence Taylor, Jerry Rice, and Barry Sanders.

When it comes to interior offensive linemen, the fact is there has rarely been anyone better than Martin in the NFL’s long history. The reason the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in as good a position as they currently do is in large part due to his presence in their offense. His play allowed Cooper Rush to become comfortable and acclimated easily into the offense in the absence of Dak Prescott. The quarterback became one of the league’s most reliable in the weeks he filled in for the team. That could only have been the case with an offensive line giving him the necessary space in the pocket to operate. Just another in a long list of accomplishments for the future Hall-of-Famer offensive lineman.

The Dallas Cowboys heroic backup quarterback Cooper Rush led his squad to an impressive victory over the New York Giants 23-16. Rush ousted a 67.7 completion percentage, 215 passing yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT in the MNF win. Of course, Rush is tasked with replacing the physically gifted, inspiring QB Dak Prescott, who hopes to be ready for Week 4 (home against the Washington Commanders). With that said, I will take a fun angle by untwining five interesting facts about the Cowboys QB2.

• He played football at Central Michigan

Similar to Tony Romo, Rush didn’t play at a large school, as he played a Central Michigan. It should be noted that it wasn’t far away from Rush’s hometown (Charlotte, MI). The Central Michigan Football website nicely notes that Rush sits in second in passing touchdowns and third in passing yards. His best passer rating (149.4) came in his sophomore season. Furthermore, he earned second-team All-Mac honors and academic All-MAC honors as a senior.

• It is his fifth season with the Boys

Rush isn’t a stranger to the Boys locker room, but he is a stranger as the QB1 for Dallas. Prior to his stints in 2022, he only started one game in place of Prescott (which was in 2021). He did manage to win his only game as a starter last season.

• He has Tom Brady vibes

Greg Harvey nicely noted on Twitter that there are only two QBs in NFL history that have had a game-winning drive in each of their first three career starts. He concluded that Rush is one of those two QBs. Rush has that clutch ability and chip on his shoulder in all moments of the game (similar to the GOAT Tom Brady).

• He is married to Lauryn Rush

Cooper is married to Lauryn Rush. They began dating in 2017 — which was the same year that Cooper started his Cowboys tenure. Two years later, Cooper proposed to Lauryn. Shortly later, the duo had their wedding in Chi-town.

• Rush will be a free agent after this season

Rush has had a fabulous journey with America’s team over the past five seasons. Although, it’s unclear if he will remain in Dallas beyond 2022. He is set to be a FA in the upcoming off-season. I’m confident that many teams will be interested in his services after his talent that was displayed in 2022.
