Wild Card weekend is officially upon us. While the games have some clear favorites there is always going to be surprises that catch us off guard. Let’s take a closer look at the matchups and reveal our expert picks.

Seattle Seahawks at 49ers (-10)

Can Brock Purdy keep up his improbable consistent play at QB when it counts? That remains to be seen, and so far there is no reason why he can’t keep performing at a high level. Seattle is very well coached and have talent, but it’s going to be tough for them to win this one. They would need a couple turnovers on defense and somehow “contain” Christian McCaffrey. I’ll take the 49ers on this one as they continue to roll.

49ers 28 Seattle 13

Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars

Both teams have eerily similar QB’s when you look at stats and their physical features. Jacksonville is on a roll but the Chargers are a good team. They will have a good plan in this one to keep Trevor Lawrence at bay. My heart says Jacksonville in this one, but I think the Chargers win on a last second field goal

Chargers 27 Jaguars 24

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (-13.5)

Doesn’t it seem like this is Buffalo’s year no matter what? They have talent, the whole Damar Hamlin story. Miami is playing their 3rd string QB in Skylar Thompson. They will need to come up with a plan to get the ball to their good receivers, but it won’t be enough.

Buffalo 34 Miami 17

New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings (-3)

Minnesota is the biggest fraud in this playoff group. They either win by 3 or lose by 30. I don’t trust Kirk Cousins in the playoffs and with the weapons he has there is no reason they should lose this game. I just wonder if the Giants can generate enough offense to compete with Minnesota.

Minnesota 24 Giants 21

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals (-9.5)

No Lamar against the streaking Bengals. The Ravens should put up a good test with their tough defense but it won’t be enough. I question the Ravens secondary and stopping all the Bengals receivers.

Bengals 30 Ravens 21

Dallas Cowboys (-2.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Dallas is coming off a horrendous lost to the Commanders where there was no effort at all. That might of been a good thing for them, and they might wake up this week against the average Bucs. I know Tom Brady is undefeated against the Cowboys, but they will lose this week against Dallas. Dallas will get back to their high powered offensive ways and win by 10.

Dallas 34 Bucs 24

Last week’s record 14-2

This will not be your typical “what we learned” with analysis from the games that took place in Week 17. Rather, this week we want to talk about Damar Hamlin. Damar suffered a cardiac arrest while playing in a Monday night football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. We’re used to people getting hurt and then getting back up, but in this case that didn’t happen. Damar had to be resuscitated on the field to get his heart beating.

We’re learning now he had to be resuscitated again at the hospital. As we speak, Damar is still in critical condition fighting for us life. Football is a game played by highly skilled athletes. What we learned this week is that there is more to life than just football. This young man is battling for his life and got injured playing the game he loved. Nobody is worried right now when they will reschedule this game or how it will effect playoff implications. Shoot, the Bills would rather him be OK than go to the Super bowl. This is a human being that needs all the prayers and support as he fight’s for his life.

What did we learn in Week 17? We learned that life is precious and is so much more important than Football!

If you would like to donate to help Damar Hamlin’s foundation you can do so here https://www.gofundme.com/f/mxksc-the-chasing-ms-foundation-community-toy-drive

We are back with our Week 17 edition of DAWGS Of The Week. This series highlights the players who surpassed their projections for the current week. We use Sleepers’ PPR Format for the point system and forecasts. Let’s look back at the players that swung their team to victory this week.

Special note: We will not include the players from the Bills vs Bengals game after what happened. With that, we would like to honor DAMAR HAMLIN as the TOP DAWG of Week 17.

Damar Hamlin’s GoFundMe Page is nearly at $5.5M, with donations from endless NFL people. On these pages alone: Andy Dalton and his wife at $3K, Russell Wilson and his wife at $10K plus their charity, Tom Brady, Josh McDaniels, Commanders. On and on. https://t.co/cM1lhPv27c pic.twitter.com/SnLONebY2w
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 4, 2023

QB DAWG Of The Week: Tom Brady 37.68 FP

432 Passing Yards, 3 Passing TDs, 3 Carries, 4 Rushing Yards, 1 Rushing TD, 1 2-Pt Conversion (Projected: 17.72 FP)

Tom Brady put on a vintage performance in a must-win game. Brady threw for 432 yards and three TDs, all to Mike Evans. He also had a rare rushing TD and completed a 2-pt conversion. This performance was important especially since Brady has looked a step below what we are expecting to see. His connection with Mike Evans will be key as they prepare for the postseason.

Tom Brady. 45 years old, win to make the playoffs lose to go home.

436 yards
4 touchdowns
0 turnovers

3rd win this season down double digits in the 4th quarter

??? pic.twitter.com/t9BajPPXPy
— Spurs Legacy (@spurs_four) January 1, 2023

RB DAWG Of The Week: JaMycal Hasty 17.60 FP

10 Carries, 33 Rushing Yards, 1 Rushing TD, 6 Receptions, 23 Receiving Yards (Projected: 4.17 FP)

JaMycal Hasty took advantage of a blowout to get more touches when the Jaguars defeated the Texans in Week 17. Hasty had 16 touches for 56 yards and a rushing TD. The Jaguars played in a game in which the result didn’t matter. The winner of the Jaguars vs Titans in Week 18 will clinch the division and advance to the playoffs.

WR DAWG Of The Week: Mike Evans 48.70 FP

10 Receptions, 207 Receiving Yards, 3 Receiving TDs (Projected: 13.72 FP)

Mike Evans erupted with a performance of a lifetime against Carolina. Mike Evans caught 10 passes for 207 yards and three TDs. He and Brady connected for 63, 57, and 30-yard TDs. This performance put him for over 1000 yards in nine straight seasons. This game put Tampa Bay in the playoffs with a division-clinching win.

Dalton Schultz had his best game of the year when he caught seven passes for 56 yards and two TDs. He was targeted 10 times which tied a season-high. Both his TDs were in the second half and sealed the win against the Titans.

DEF/ST DAWG Of The Week: Green Bay Packers 24 FP

14-20 Points Allowed, 1 Defense TD, 3 Interceptions, 2 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, 1 Special Teams TD (Projected: 6.80 FP)

Green Bay played its best game of the year when it dominated the Minnesota Vikings in a must-win game. From the start, the defense and special teams made their presence known. Keisean Nixon had a kick-off return TD for 105 yards to start it out. Darnell Savage had a pick-6 for a 75-yard TD halfway through the first.
