The NFL has showcased countless talented cornerbacks with an alpha-like attitude in its existence. Over the past decade, CBs like Darrelle Revis (also known as Revis Island), Charles Woodson, and Champ Bailey have caused a plethora of agony against opposing offenses. With that said, where do these CBs rank amid the best of the best? Well, I’m going to untwine the 10 best cornerbacks of all time.

1. Deion Sanders

Deion Sanders, also known as “Prime Time”, talked the talk and walked the walk. As soon as Sanders entered the league, he began to make life hell for opposing QBs. He garnered five interceptions as a rook and it was clear that he was extremely gifted.

Sanders garnered first-team All-Pro in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, and even in 1998. He unleashed a career-high 7 interceptions in 1993. In ’94, he ousted a personal best three pick-sixes.

*Let’s not forget that he was also a talented Kick Returner. In his 1992 campaign, he had two KR touchdowns.

Deion Sanders • Must Be The Money pic.twitter.com/I63YgOUt7D
— Gifted ???

2. Charles Woodson

The Green Bay Packers legendary profile Charles Woodson impressively won DPOY from the CB spot in the 2009 campaign (which featured him hauling in nine interceptions, three pick-sixes, nine tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles). Woodson also had two other AP seasons from his CB position (which arrived in 1999 and 2011). He also made eight Pro Bowls as a shut-down CB. Of course, he switched to play from the safety spot between 2012 and 2015.

?Charles Woodson INT compilation?#RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/AWOtn8ANho
— Raiders Reels (@RaidersReels) August 26, 2022

3. Darrelle Revis

The mythical CB Darrelle Revis was the best CB at erasing an opposing WR1 for a long time. Revis Island was a four-time first-team All-Pro & he also made seven Pro Bowls. He had four seasons of 4+ interceptions. Rex Ryan’s favorite player in the Big Apple made seven Pro Bowls in his career, as well. Revis nicely obtained a SB ring with Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the Pats in 2014. So, is Sauce Gardner the second coming of Revis?

4. Rod Woodson

The freak defensive back Rod Woodson was a god from the CB spot and an elite presence from the safety spot. The former Steelers and Raiders DB unveiled five first-team All-Pro nods as a CB. Furthermore, he won DPOY in 1993 (as he obtained 8 ints, two sacks, and 2 FFs) and took home second place in DPOY in 1994. In case you were wondering, Rod is not related to Charles.

5. Mel Blount

Mel Blount was undoubtedly a greek god-like CB for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s and 1980s. Blount unleashed 11 interceptions, a first-team All-Pro nod, and extremely proudly: DPOY in 1975. The five-time Pro Bowler garnered 57 ints in his career.

On this day 50 years ago, the Steelers drafted Mel Blount in the third round at 53rd overall in the 1970 NFL Draft. #Steelers pic.twitter.com/4rtnbbPVJr
— Blitzburgh (@Blitz_Burgh) January 27, 2020

6. Champ Bailey

Champ Bailey was a She-Hulk-like cornerback in his NFL journey — especially for the Denver Broncos. Bailey cracked three first-team All-Pro nods & made eight Pro Bowls in Denver. In 2006 — he ousted 10 ints, 86 combined tackles, and placed second in DPOY voting. The Champ secured 52 interceptions in his NFL journey. Sadly, Bailey never won a Super Bowl ring.

7. Mike Haynes

Mike Haynes won DROY (while making second-team AP) and he then made AP2 in the next four seasons, too. In 1982, he made second-team AP. His rampage continued – as he garnered first team AP honors in 1984 and in 1985. He’s also made a whopping eight Pro Bowls! He’s recorded six seasons of at least 4 interceptions.

Two Silver and Black legends back together.

Cornerbacks Mike Haynes and Lester Hayes visited HQ to reflect on their legacy in a Raiders uniform. pic.twitter.com/PXh5LHpMES
— Las Vegas Raiders (@Raiders) June 16, 2022

8. Night Train Lane

In the early days of Gensis, Night Train Lane was an unstoppable force. All jokes aside, Dick “Night Train” Lane unleashed 14 interceptions in his rookie season. Yes, you read that correctly. In his junior season, he obtained 10 interceptions! He made three first-team All-Pro nods & three second-team All-Pro nods. He had seven seasons of 5+ interceptions.

Dick “Night Train” Lane
Was out there committing assaults pic.twitter.com/RiPsQElr7j
— Gifted ???

9. Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman was the star of the Legion of Boom & he was quite the monster. Sherman was a three-time first-team All-Pro in three of his first four seasons. He ousted 8 ints in his second and third season. Furthermore, he cracked five Pro Bowl nods in his NFL life. He also was a world champion – as he won Super Bowl XLVIII. Despite a recent off-field issue, it’s clear that he’s a very passionate and kind individual. Amazon Prime has taken a notice in his personality – as he will work with Tony Gonzalez on their pre-game, half-time, and post-game show on Thursday nights.

10. Aeneas Williams

It would be an understatement to say Aeneas Williams deserved to be cast into Canton in 2014. Williams was a three-time first-team All-Pro & he made eight Pro Bowls. He had five seasons of at least six interceptions. He also had three seasons of two pick sixes. Before Patrick Peterson mopped the floor against opposing signal-callers, Williams was a QB’s worst nightmare in AZ.

Is Revis bound to make the Hall of Fame in 2023?

By: Jake Rajala

The New York Jets nation and Fireman Ed proudly heard that their beloved, long-time CB Darrelle Revis was inducted into the Jets Ring of honor on June 2nd. It has been an emotional week for Jets fans — as it also proves to be a time worth reflecting on the legend of Revis. With that said, I’m going to recap the magic that Revis left in the Big Apple and if he’s on the path to making it into Canton in 2023 (aka his first year of eligibility).

The New York Jets selected Darrelle Revis in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Revis, also known as Revis Island, had a strong rookie season (3 interceptions, 17 pass deflections, and 88 combined tackles). Well, it would be an understatement to say Revis climbed the ladder after his rookie season. The former Jets legend made the Pro Bowl in each season from 2008 to 2011 and cracked the All-Pro team in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

it's always a good time to share this https://t.co/b3m9WvFFFY pic.twitter.com/ljxX5oQyT5
— New York Jets (@nyjets) June 2, 2022

Revis left NY and Rex Ryan paradise after the 2012 season. He spent a season in Tampa Bay (Pro Bowl berth), a season in New England (Super Bowl ring & All-Pro honors), two more seasons in New York (Jets), and quietly played his last season in Kansas City in 2017.

Darrelle Revis turns 36 YO

Super Bowl Champ – 1x
All-Pro – 4x
Pro Bowl – 7x
HoF All-2010’s team pic.twitter.com/YC1yao9Tll
— Boston Sports Info (@bostonsportsinf) July 14, 2021

Revis has obviously been phenomenal in his career — and arguably the best CB in the NFL from 2009 to 2014. The question is – how does he compare to first-ballot HOF CBs? I believe a fascinating and logical comparison for him is none other than Champ Bailey (who was a first-ballot HOF).

Champ Bailey was a greek god-like CB and he made a whopping 12 Pro Bowl selections (which towers over the 7 PB selections that Revis possesses). Although, Revis garnered one more All-Pro honor than Bailey. Revis also has garnered a SB ring, while Bailey was never able to notch a SB ring.

Champ Bailey was a football magnet ? pic.twitter.com/e8URoK0ATx
— Footballism (@FootbaIIism) May 9, 2020

There is no secret that Bailey unveiled many more seasons of superb performances. Yet, Revis was able to enjoy an unmatched prime and his 2009 season was more impressive than any season Bailey recorded, in my opinion. Mike Tanier from Bleacher Report pointed out that Bailey is one spot ahead of Revis on the all-time top CB list. Bailey and Revis may not be the McCourty brothers, but they ultimately have very similar & first-ballot HOF resumes.
