Is Davante Adams the best WR in dynasty?

By: Zach Kurt

Who is the best wide receiver in dynasty? I bet when I ask this question quite a few names pop into your head. Profiles like A.J. Brown, Tyreek Hill, Calvin Ridley, and many more are in the running but who is the top dog? I was very curious about who the Fantasy community thought was the dynasty WR1. I didn’t just poll their number one WR, I polled their top five dynasty WRs and 90% of them had A.J. Brown, Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, and Davante Adams. Other WRs included in the top 5 were: Calvin Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, D.K. Metcalf, Ceedee Lamb, Stefon Diggs, Ja’Marr Chase, Terry McLaurin, Michael Thomas.

However, I am going to eliminate the list that I just shared. Not because they aren’t able to be the dynasty WR1 but the community seems to have narrowed it down to these 4 WRs. Each of these WRs were Hill, Adams, AJB, and Jefferson, who all received 20% of the top vote in the poll. It is fair to say that each one of these WRs has the talent, opportunity, and situations to be THE WR1 but there is only one. So who will it be? Let’s break down each player in terms of production, age, injury history, and future outlook.

First on the podium, is Tyreek hill. Hill is in the best offense and will be until he retires. He is 27 years old and is truly a beast at the position, as he has elite yards per catch, and has found the endzone 35 times the last 3 years. Plus he has a small rushing upside that none of these other guys have. Tyreek has a brief injury history and also has had some trouble with the law. Patrick Mahomes is throwing him the ball and that immediately puts him at the top of my list because he has the best QB of the group for the foreseeable future.

Those are my QBs' ? https://t.co/ItfeysXISV
— Ty Hill (@cheetah) August 30, 2021

Next, Adams is a target machine and a red zone monster. If he was 25 I don’t think that there is any question about who the WR1 is. However, he is 28 and has an injury history and that is something that is taken into consideration when making this decision. Last season he had 149 targets in 14 games. Did I mention he is a red zone monster? 18 Tds in 14 games, that’s more than a TD a game. According to Draftsharks.com Adams has a 94% of an injury in 2021. The older he gets the more likely to increase that rate and at 94% that’s tough to rely on. When Adams is on the field he is the best fantasy WR in football. There is a chance that he and Rodgers don’t play together next year and that could have serious implications on his fantasy value.

#Vikings Justin Jefferson warming up pic.twitter.com/izMlLk3API
— Aaron Ladd (@aaronladdtv) August 27, 2021

Next is AJB stud WR who has a higher YPC than Tyreek. He is 24 years old and a solid red-zone option and has a great QB but not an elite one. Entering his third year his ceiling is very high. However, his targets don’t come very close to Hill and Adams. Brown has averaged less than 100 targets in his first two years. With Julio coming into the team it took the opportunity he had to be the Clear #1 on this team away. Tennessee also doesn’t throw the ball a lot and that makes AJB’s target share high but his volume of targets is low when comparing him to the other guys. He has had a few minor knee injuries over his career but nothing that has set him back more than a few weeks.

Finally, we have Justin Jefferson a breakout guy in year one 125 targets 1400 yards but only 7 TDs. JJeff is 22 years old and super safe because of his yardage floor. He is going to get the targets and do great things with them as we saw last year. A stipulation with Jefferson is that he has only done it one year, and could face regression. His TD’s seem to be a cause for concern only getting 7. Adam Theilen is a red zone monster but will slowly fade in the next few years. JJeff is the #1 target on his team and has room to grow! Can JJeff be better than he was last year? Absolutely he can, but the unknown is rough with him. Now as we look back at all 4 receivers all of them have some concerns and they all have incredible upside.

Justin Jefferson led the NFL in YPRR vs. man coverage.

His competition for targets right now is 31yo Thielen, maybe Irv Smith, Tyler Conklin, Dalvin Cook, and we don't know who the Vikings' WR3 will be either. Give me him over DeAndre Hopkins straight up.
— Hayden Winks (@HaydenWinks) August 30, 2021

Have you figured out who the Dynasty WR1 should be? Drumroll, please! It’s not Adams, It’s not AJB”¦”¦. It’s Justin Jefferson, with Tyreek a close second. Justin Jefferson in his rookie year with no training camp or preseason was a top 6 WR and he has room to grow and improve. He will be a top 5 WR in the NFL for the next 8-10 years. Tyreek and Adams will probably be better than JJeff over the next 2-3 years. However, JJeff will be right behind him, his competition for targets is slowing down and most WR’s show better results in year 2. Jefferson has longevity, he is elite, and has the best floor without an injury history.

Thank you for sticking with me to figure out who the Dynasty Wr1 Should be. While I still love all the WRs mentioned in the article and all of them have the potential to be the top dog, Jefferson is the clear answer for me. I hope this research helped inform your decision as well. As I always say, send trade offers because Dynasty Never Rests!

Buy Darnell Mooney NOW

By: Marcel Boudreau (@Marcel_BFF)

In order to get an upper hand on your opponents, it is important to buy values wherever you can. This article serves a purpose to highlight 3 wide receivers that have an opportunity to become fantasy relevant this season and moving forward. There were a lot of “sleeper” wide receivers that could have been on this list, but their managers are likely reluctant to let them go. Players such as Bryan Edwards and Marquez Callaway have been getting a lot of hype and would be easy to put on this list, but their managers will likely be asking for too much in return. Below is a list of three wide receivers that you can buy at a discount that have the potential to return great value.

https://twitter.com/SagED_UP/status/1431305270282571788?s=20

Parris Campbell

Although he sits between WR64 and WR66 in dynasty Superflex start-ups, for leagues who have been established for over two years, the fantasy manager of Parris Campbell has likely been extremely frustrated with him on their bench or IR (injury reserve) due to his plethora of injuries beginning in week 3 of his rookie season that’s only allowed him to play in 9 of 32 games. So why should you go after Campbell?

“Players are injury-prone until they’re not” ”“ Jason Moore of The Fantasy Footballers

I have investigated the timeline and types of injuries that have happened to Campbell. They are very “freak” accidents and mostly un-related leading to a lower re-injury rate than most would expect. Aside from those injuries, were the timelines in which they happened, and without using my physiotherapy degree to go into too much more detail, Parris Campbell is the healthiest he has been since Week 3 of 2018.

How about Parris Campbell the player? This is a guy who has 4.31 speed (faster than Tyreek) at 6 feet tall and 205lbs. That combination with above-average route running abilities and 66% catch rate (on passes from Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett) is something special. He was drafted in the second round and can play both the slot and on the outside. The Colts made it a point of emphasis to get the ball in his hands last year by targeting him 9 times for 6 receptions and 71 yards in week 1 before spraining his knee early in week 2 forcing him to miss the rest of last year. From the media buzz, it appears like Campbell and Pittman will be the starting receivers in 2 WR sets, and Hilton will come in for 3-WR sets, which means plenty of snaps to match what we saw last year being on the field for 83% of offensive snaps.

Darnell Mooney

Mooney will not be the cheapest of buys, but when combining his rookie season on-field metrics with hopeful better QB play going forward, Darnell Mooney just might be a diamond in the rough. This is a team that after only 2 regular seasons games, decided to shift Anthony Miller’s target to Mooney, and coming out of their week 11 Bye, Mooney has become the clear-cut WR2 on this team, demanding 8 targets a game over the last 6 weeks. Mooney never had a “shiny” box score game, which helps disguise his true value, as he never once topped 100 yds, or had a multiple touchdown game.

The main reason Mooney failed to have explosion-type games was due to QB play. He was targeted the 11th most in the league deep down the field and was 10th in unrealized air yards, which is a clear indication that the team trusts him on these high-value fantasy targets, but when checking the film, he was vastly under or over-thrown on these deep targets. Being completely transparent with Mooney, he could have had better success on some catches, but this was a rookie who never had the chance to build chemistry with his QBs as the team continued to flip flop the starter between Foles and Trubisky. Yes, Andy Dalton is set to start week 1, but once the QB shift to Justin Fields happens, we are going to see the offense settle into a rhythm, which was barely established last season.

Mooney has sub-4.40 speed and is a crisp route runner. Justin Fields has the arm strength, talent, and pocket escapability to extend plays and make monster gains downfield. It’s a pairing that will grow together over the next couple of seasons, which may I mention that Allan Robinson may be out the door after this season, leaving Mooney at the top of the WR depth chart. Yes, they are likely to bring someone in, but that newcomer will not have the established chemistry that Mooney and Fields will be building. Mooney is currently being drafted as the WR50 (118th overall ”“ 10.10), and with a concentrated passing attack from the Bear’s, he’s not only going to pay off in re-draft, but he’s going to make a lot of dynasty manager happy they acquired him before the breakout.

Josh Palmer

There are many reasons to want Josh Palmer on your dynasty roster. Over the next 4 seasons, two things will remain true: He will be connected to a stud young QB in Justin Herbert, and he will never face the opposing top corner as Keenan Allen is under contract until 2025. Another fact is that former first-round pick Mike Williams, the current WR2 on the roster, is likely not returning to the Chargers following this season.

Josh Palmer’s athletic metrics are less than exciting, but he’s a very good route runner who was never fortunate enough to have a great QB throw him the ball. That will all change in LA. Palmer’s ability to get open and secure catches all over the field and through traffic is something that will draw the attention of Herbert as the year progresses. This is also a team that has made little investments in the tight end position, hopefully leaving more of the market share in favor of the receivers. Austin Ekeler is not going anywhere, and between him and Keenan Allen, they will hog around 45% of the targets, but that is more than okay as their talent will draw a lot of attention off Palmer, leaving him with more single coverages and increased target efficiency.

Josh Palmer was drafted in the middle-to-late third round in rookie drafts this summer, which is a steal of its own, but you can attempt to use this leverage to either buy him cheap, or you can swap him with an aging player that may carry name value such as AJ Green and T.Y Hilton who the opposing manager may believe have better chances at 2021 production.

Conclusion

This article was not written in the sense of broking your team’s bank to get these players but is to highlight some players that are going undervalued in drafts for what their ceilings and futures could be. Stats and data were provided by, playerprofiler.com, sleeper.app, sportsreference.com, 4for4.com. Thanks for reading!

Saints WR Tre’Quan Smith will shine in 2021

By: Jake Rajala

The dynasty fantasy football season is heating up as the early August Hall of Fame game nears. Dynasty gurus are starting to be bolder with their push for a more competitive starting lineup.

It’s important to be up to date with the players that may be under the radar, yet possess the ability to propel your team to championship royalty. It’s factual that the running back position is prioritized and it carries the most weight on one’s team. Although, it’s important to master the understanding of the talent at other positions like QB, or WR.

In this debacle, the wideout spot will be dissected. We’re going to go through WR profiles that are slowly rising through the cracks and yield the ability to rise up in big moments of the fantasy season. Let’s begin.

TreQuan Smith shows how the fingertips make all the difference on this difficult TD grab #Saints pic.twitter.com/67QxZRnich
— Matt Waldman (@MattWaldman) October 4, 2020

Tee Higgins

Everybody in the football world is talking about the high draft pick Ja’Marr Chase replacing the franchise legend AJ Green. Of course, the LSU connection will come to life with Chase and Burrow. Nonetheless, the hype surrounding the LSU rookie is shadowing the ability that the Bengals second-year player Tee Higgins carries.

Even though Joe Burrow missed six games, Higgins still vastly outperformed the likes of Michael Pittman Jr, Henry Ruggs, and Jalen Reagor (67-908-6).

Pittman: 40-503-3

Reagor: 31-396-1

Ruggs: 26-452-2

Expect a healthy Burrow, who was “second in passing attempts” prior to his injury, to unleash an improved Higgins in many shootout contests next season. The 22-year-old flat out has lots of skill and a freakish ceiling.

Tee Higgins really launched two different Minnesota corners into orbit in the same drive with the same route lmao pic.twitter.com/UActKkJqEN
— JetPack Galileo (@JetPackGalileo) September 15, 2021

John Brown

The new Raiders deep threat is still going strong at this stage in his career. Brown just recorded a career 1,000+ yard receiving season in 2019. Everybody loves to talk about the “first round” WR Henry Ruggs taking the next step without Gregg Williams giving a boost, but I fully expect another veteran wideout wearing #15 (Nelson Agholor being the former) in LV to outperform Ruggs.

Carr threw the most 20+ yard passes since 2017 last season and I expect the well-established wideout that Carr already loves to be the reliable number one wideout throughout the 2021 season. Brown may be 31 years old, but speed demon Ted Ginn Jr. just retired at the age of 36 and Desean Jackson appears to be strong (when healthy) at age 34.

Tre’Quan Smith

Tre’Quan Smith was seriously underrated even before Michael Thomas’s injury. The Saints All Pro punt returner Deonte Harris seemed to be nearly in the same conversation as the former UCF wideout.

I loved Smith to follow in the footsteps of UDFA Lance Moore, who recorded a 1,000-yard season in New Orleans, to step up in the absence of former Saints number two WR Emmanual Sanders. Now that MT is on the sideline for at least the beginning of the 2021 season, there is no reason to not fully expect Smith to be a go-to target and big body red zone threat.

The comparison of Lance Moore can step aside, while Smith can now be seen as the next “Marques Colston”. Expect the Saints wideout that often had 10+ pt showcases in PPR to be a very reliable weapon going into his fourth season.

Dynasty WRs to trade for

By Calvin K (Twitter: @Calvin_SGF)

The dynasty offseason is in full swing, and excitement for the fantasy season is building as we head into June. There does tend to be a lull in league trading around this time, but if you’re in a league with committed managers, they’ll usually be willing to hear trade offers at any time of the year.

There are always differences in how certain dynasty owners value certain players, but as always, there are also players who are generally being valued too low by the consensus. It is important to really keep in mind, however, that someone can still have the same thought process on a player as you, and in that case, it’s important not to overpay. In this article, I’ll be analyzing three WRs you should trade for now (if possible) in dynasty.

1. Courtland Sutton (Denver Broncos)

Usually, young alpha WRs will cost a truckload in dynasty, however, Sutton is one who has been completely overlooked ever since his injury. Sutton inexplicably fell many spots in startup ADP after the ACL tear last year without a significant change in situation. Yes, the injury presents a mild concern, but all accounts say that Sutton is rehabbing well, so it really doesn’t justify any rankings drop at all in my eyes.

The main argument used against Sutton is the fact that Drew Lock is Denver’s QB. Lock was wildly inconsistent last year, but despite how it may seem, that doesn’t have to be a bad thing for Sutton’s value. Sutton’s efficiency is unlikely to be elite due to the bad QB play, but his target share can be.

Bad QBs tend to rely on their alphas, which could turn Sutton into an Allen-Robinson type player (at least in terms of target share). 150 targets is not outside the realm of possibility for Sutton, and his athletic ability will allow him to make plays that many WRs can’t. Sutton’s WR23 FantasyPros consensus ranking isn’t totally atrocious, but it makes it clear that he isn’t being valued like a true alpha, and at 25 years old, he’s well worth the current price that he’s going for.

2. Kenny Golladay (New York Giants)

Many people in the fantasy industry are not happy about Golladay’s signing with New York, which is understandable considering that the Giants haven’t exactly had an electric passing game in recent years. However, that shouldn’t deter you from trading for Golladay in dynasty, as his WR21 FantasyPros ranking likely won’t ever get lower.

Daniel Jones hasn’t been a very accurate QB in the first two years of his career, but he definitely has the arm talent to throw deep passes. Golladay is excellent at getting open and making big plays, so if Jones can take a step up next year, the pair will be a match made in heaven. Jones will have every opportunity to improve in 2021, and Golladay could end up being a Stefon-Diggs-type player for New York, one who puts their QB’s career on a new trajectory.

The addition of Saquon Barkley will also force many defenses into stacking the box to stop him, leaving Golladay and other receivers open one-on-one. Jones’ receiving corps has been painfully average over the last two years, and the Giants were aware of that fact and made sure to address the need. Jones will likely need to lean on Kenny G as he continues to get used to the NFL, and Golladay, like Sutton, has the potential to garner an elite target share. If he can pair a massive amount of targets with at least some form of deep-ball efficiency, the sky would be the limit for his fantasy value, which is why you should trade for him now at his back-end WR2 price.

3. Tee Higgins (Cincinnati Bengals)

Lots of Higgins managers were upset by Cincinnati’s selection of WR Ja’Marr Chase with the #5 overall pick in the draft. However, that frustration could allow dynasty managers to get a stud at a cheaper-than-usual price. Higgins’ WR19 FantasyPros ranking is still pretty high, but there are many rankers who have placed him as a back-end WR2, or even a WR3. Yes, the Chase pick hurts him in the long-run, but that still doesn’t justify that kind of a drop.

Chase is expected to immediately compete for targets in Cincinnati’s offense, which is certainly a hinderance that keeps Higgins from unlocking a true top-five fantasy ceiling. However, given how much Cincinnati threw the ball last year, he still definitely has the potential to be a WR1 in fantasy. A.J. Green has departed from the Bengals after a 104-target season, so he will open up more opportunities for the WR corps overall.

QB Joe Burrow’s targets are likely to be nearly exclusive to Chase, Higgins, slot WR Tyler Boyd, and RB Joe Mixon. There is plenty of volume available for all of these guys, especially considering that Burrow was on pace for 699 passing attempts in the nine games he played before his injury in 2020. Using his 65.3% completion percentage from last year extrapolates that to 456 completions, leaving plenty of room for Chase and Higgins to both have big seasons. Burrow’s completion percentage should also go up with another great WR on the team, even if you cautiously assume only a 1% bump for this year, the completion total goes up to 463.

Those numbers may seem high, but it’s basically what Burrow was going to do last year, and there’s no reason to believe he can’t keep them up. If he does, there should be lots of targets available for all of the four main pass catchers, so trading for Tyler Boyd in dynasty wouldn’t be a bad idea either if you accept that his ceiling is no longer in top-12 territory. Higgins, however, does have that ceiling, so if you can capitalize on a concerned dynasty manager, the benefits should be well worth it in the long run.

By Zach Attack @FFChalupaBatman

We are amid rookie fever as dynasty players have their rookie drafts. There are several strategies to construct a winning dynasty team, and drafting rookies with high upside is one strategy. Every rookie with upside will not hit their potential, but when they do on your roster you have a young asset in their prime. Below are three rookie running backs or wide receivers with enormous upside that you should acquire in drafts.

RB Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos

Javonte Williams was drafted 35th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft, as the third RB off the board. There may not be immediate upside since Melvin Gordon is currently on the roster, but in dynasty, you need to project into the future too. Gordon’s contract ends after the 2021 season, and he is not expected to be re-signed by the Broncos. The Broncos have built a young, talented offense and their offensive line is continuing to improve. They may only be a QB away from a high-powered offense or we could see Drew Lock improve his development this season. Williams has great all-around RB skills that project him to be a three-down RB when he takes over the backfield. That is rare nowadays in the NFL. Williams is also a young rookie since he just turned 21 years old at the end of April. All of these factors give Javonte Williams a high upside, and you do not even need to draft him at 1.01!

WR Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins

Jaylen Waddle was drafted 6th overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2021 NFL Draft, as the second WR off the board. Waddle’s junior season at the University of Alabama was cut short due to an injury, but he is expected to be fully healthy going into his rookie season with the Dolphins. Waddle did not run the 40-yard dash during his pro day, but everyone knows he is a speedster and can run an extremely fast 40-yard dash. Several analysts have compared Waddle to Tyreek Hill because of his size and speed, and this may be a lazy comparison but only time will tell to see how productive Waddle can be on the field. The Miami Dolphins have been collecting first-round picks for several years and they now have a good, young team and have more first-round picks in the next couple of seasons. Tua Tagovailoa, who played with Waddle in college, did not have a stellar rookie season, but he was coming back for a significant hip injury. The offensive coordinator has changed, and the team has extreme speed on the field this year after signing Will Fuller and drafting Jaylen Waddle. Tua will improve this season and Waddle will develop with this younger team. Waddle has the skill set to be a big play waiting to happen on any play. If he can be consistent with big plays then he can be a WR1 in fantasy football. Just like Javonte Williams, Waddle is capable of being a dominant player for many years to come and you do not need to have the 1.01 pick to draft him.

WR Rondale Moore, Arizona Cardinals

Rondale Moore was drafted 49th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2021 NFL Draft, as the sixth WR off the board. Moore had an incredible freshman year at Purdue University with 135 touches, 1,471 scrimmage yards, and 14 total TDs in 13 games! Unfortunately, due to injuries Moore only played 7 games total for his sophomore and junior year. He is only 5’ 7”, but insanely explosive with a 4.29 40 yard dash and 42.5” vertical jump! Moore joins a dynamic passing offense led by QB Kyler Murray. He may start as the third WR on the depth chart behind DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green, if healthy, but he will get at least 60% of snaps. If A.J. Green does not perform well this season then he can be cut next offseason after 6/1 without a dead cap hit and a $2.5 million savings for the team. Moore is going to develop alongside Murray, who appears to be an exciting and dynamic young QB. Rondale Moore has the skill set to capitalize on big plays in this offense for many years to come. As with most rookie WRs, you may not get a lot of fantasy points this year, but there is so much upside for him to be at least a WR2 for several years soon.

Robert Woods Should be in High Demand

By: Austin Ebersole

With the 2020 NFL season finally coming to an end, it’s important for dynasty football players to identify certain players to target in the off-season. We are in the buy low, sell high business, and looking ahead I have identified 3 Wide Receivers that you should be trying to buy before next season.

1. Chris Godwin – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – #14

After a 2019 season that saw Godwin finish as the WR2 overall, most will look at his ”˜20 season numbers and be disappointed in where he ended up. Finishing as WR31 is a far cry from a top 2 finish like the year before, but that’s just one reason to buy low on Godwin while you still can.

From his rookie season on, Godwin steadily saw his targets increase every year by nearly 73%. Finishing with 55 targets in ”˜17, 95 in ”˜18, and 121 in ”˜19, it is clear to see that the Buccaneers want to get him the ball. Had Godwin not missed 4 games this year due to injury, he would have been within 10 targets of the season before that had him finish as a WR1 in fantasy. It’s also important to know that Godwin caught 77% of his targets from Brady this year compared to only hauling in 71% of his passes from Jameis Wintson during his breakout season the year before. With a healthy thumb next season, Godwin’s catch rate could eclipse the 80% mark which equates to big time production.

Dynasty Outlook- A Strong WR1

2. Tyler Boyd – Cincinnati Bengals – #83

Let’s not forget that before Joe Burrow went down with a knee injury in week 11, Boyd was averaging 8.7 targets a game and turning that into 16.2 fantasy points per game in full point ppr leagues. If you are unsure of how sustainable those numbers can be, you can find comfort in knowing that Boyd finished as a top 20 WR in both seasons prior to Burrow arriving, and he still landed in the top 30 this year after he lost his rookie QB.

One of the biggest reasons as to why you should target Tyler Boyd is that he runs about 76.6% of his routes out of the slot, and Burrow only averages 6.7 yards per attempt. This puts Boyd right in his comfort zone, and explains why he gets 22% of Burrows 40 attempts per game. Having a QB that likes to get the ball out quickly and into his playmakers hands makes Boyd a nice WR to target for those who need help at the position.

Dynasty Outlook- Dependable WR2 in ppr leagues

3. Robert Woods – Los Angeles Rams – #17

Fantasy football players love consistency, and Robert Woods can be counted on year after year. For 3 straight seasons now, Woods has finished the season as a top 15 WR. To show you how consistent he is, he has finished the last 3 seasons with 86-90-90 receptions on 130-139-129 targets. You can’t get anymore dependable than Woods, and somehow he always seems to fly under the radar.

Unless you live under a rock, you also know that Woods will now have Matthew Stafford throwing him the ball. Combining his heavy route usage at 98.1% of snaps and 23% target share in McVay’s offense this past season and Staffords willingness to throw the ball deep, Woods will be in line for his biggest season yet. Now having a QB that’s not afraid to give his receivers more air yards gives Woods a greater chance to put up bigger numbers and improve on his career 56.2 yards per game average. As an added bonus for wanting to buy Woods, it’s important to note that he averages 20 carries a season over the last 3 years. Consistent targets, carries, and a new QB who adds the deep ball threat makes Woods a great dynasty buy.

Dynasty Outlook- High End WR2 with a solid weekly floor

3 Dynasty WRs to buy if price doesn’t matter:

1. Justin Jefferson – Minnesota Vikings – 1,400 Receiving Yards in Rookie Season 2. Calvin Ridley – Atlanta Falcons – Averaged 9.5 Targets per game in 2020 3. A.J. Brown – Tennessee Titans – 2nd Most Receiving TDs since 2019

By: Austin Ebersole (@EbersoleAustin)

Jalen Reagor Has Huge Concerns

By: Joe Pepe

The wide receiver class of 2020 delivered on every expectation from their teams. Some would say they over-delivered on what they brought to the table this past year. While most of this wide receiver class excelled in 2020, there are a few candidates that you should try to move on from before 2021.

Let’s break down three of the options you should consider moving on from this offseason.

Jalen Reagor

Reagor finished his rookie campaign with only 31 receptions. He had less than 400 yards (396) and just a single touchdown. As the 21 first pick in the NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles expected more from their speedy selection. Sandwiched between CeeDee Lamb and Justin Jefferson, who the Eagles passed on, makes Jalen Reagor’s selection look like a bust for an organization that struggles in the draft. Reagor’s most significant issue is staying healthy combined with inconsistent quarterback play.

The Eagles are in the midst of a coaching change this year. The organization is also dealing with a quarterback controversy. To put a cherry on the top of the disaster in Philadelphia, they own a high draft pick (6th overall) with rumors of high profile rookies such as Devonta Smith, Ja’Marr Chase, and Jaylen Waddle joining the team.

Some may say he is a “buy” candidate. However, with this many negatives attached to his name, Reagor should be sold this offseason.

K.J. Hamler

This second-year Denver Broncos wide receiver(the number 46th overall pick) had flashes of greatness on the field throughout the season. Even with those flashes, Hamler only recorded 30 receptions in 2020. Those receptions only produced 381 passing yards and three touchdowns. Hamler’s most prominent issue comes with Courtland Sutton’s return, who is coming off an ACL tear at the beginning of the season.

In 2019 Sutton recorded 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns. With Sutton’s return, Hamler falls to third on the depth chart and fourth overall in Drew Lock options.

Another issue for Hamler would be Drew Lock. Lock struggled throughout the entire 2020 season. Rumors around the NFL are that the Broncos are looking into possibly bringing in a veteran to compete/take over the quarterback role. The list of players could consist of high profile names such as Dak Prescott, Kurt Cousins, Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, and a plethora of other viable quarterbacks.

Some say that your dynasty offseason begins the day after the Super Bowl. In that case, making your “buy or sell” moves are just around the corner. Identifying the players that you should move on from is as crucial as moving on from GameStop stock at the right moment. Make sure to do your reach not just on the players above but on the entire 2020 class of wide receivers.

Darnell Mooney

2020’s 173rd pick in the NFL Draft showed flashes in his rookie year of being talented in a Chicago offense that at times struggled to produce on the field. The Chicago Bears will spend the offseason contemplating bring back Allen Robinson, although the rumors are they will split this offseason.

They also have Mitchell Trubisky testing the free agency market, and with Nick Foles far removed from his Super Bowl MVP performance, the Bears have rough waters ahead for this mediocre club.

Mooney stock is higher than it should be due to Robinson possibly being on the move, and now is the time to capitalize on this asset.

trade away these WRs in dynasty NOW

By: Cody Molla (Twitter: @cmolla1)

For most, the fantasy football season has ended. However, in dynasty leagues, the work never stops. The end of the season are when opinions and feelings about players is the freshest and most prominent. This can lead to value in stock for some players heading into the off season. It’s also extremely early to project for next year but if you have good feelings about guys declining and superstars in the making now is the time to get bang for your buck and trade!

The WR position is the deepest position out of the premium spots in fantasy. Guys pop up on to the scene each year meanwhile stars decline and fade away. Here are three WRs I’m looking to move on from and get value back in dynasty leagues.

Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons WR

One of the most talented receivers of all time and arguably the best receiver in the NFL over the last decade. Jet Jones is the all-time leader in receiving yards per game with 95.5 ypg, top 20 in career receiving yards with nearly 13,000, and top 30 in career catches. Julio Jones produces every year and is one of the highest projected WRs in fantasy football every year, why should we trade him?

Most Receiving Yards, Last Three NFL Seasons (2018-2020)

1. DeAndre Hopkins – 4,109
2. Travis Kelce – 3,981
3. Julio Jones – 3,842
4. Davante Adams – 3,711
5. Mike Evans – 3,641
6. Tyreek Hill – 3,615
7. Stefon Diggs – 3,610
8. Michael Thomas – 3,568
9. Keenan Allen – 3,387
— Russell Clay (@RussellJClay) December 29, 2020

The 31-year-old does have some question marks moving forward. Julio has had injury concerns throughout his career but has played over 13 games every year but two, which includes this season (9). He consistently has played through the nagging foot, toe, and leg issues but as he gets older his body won’t be able to recover as well and may miss more games moving forward. The 6’3 220, pound frame wears down after time and we may be seeing the beginning of that now.

Another reason to trade Julio is the emergence of Calvin Ridley. Ridley has exploded onto the scene and become an elite WR. He has proven he is a WR 1 on his way up to become among the top 5 in the league. This is similar to when Julio was a young player in the Falcons organization and Roddy White was the WR 1 when Julio entered the league. Julio took over the role and became the focal point of the passing game.

Julio has played his entire career with Matt Ryan at QB. With the Falcons struggles there have been rumors Matt Ryan may not return next year. It won’t matter who the QB is for Julio as he can be a downfield threat as well as an elite possession WR. However, that chemistry will not be there and it may take some time to get that and be a dominant fantasy producer immediately. Julio’s career is not nearly over, nor is his days as a fantasy producer. If you need to create some depth on your dynasty roster Julio is a piece to sell as hard as it is. But staying ahead of the curve is the way to stay atop of the dynasty league ranks. You will be able to get back a great haul when trading Julio.

Falcons president Rich McKay told @TheAthleticATL that the team's new general manager will be empowered by owner Arthur Blank to part with Matt Ryan and/or Julio Jones in a rebuild if he's convincing that his rebuilding plan will lead "to Ws."https://t.co/r9aoj8L6uL
— Jeff Schultz (@JeffSchultzATL) December 22, 2020

Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks WR

The former Kansas State speedster is completing his sixth season as a pro all with the Seahawks. He is on pace for his second straight 1000 yard receiving year if he can get over 36 in the final week. Lockett’s overall production in fantasy points may end up as WR1 in fantasy. Despite the success in total points, it’s been very inconsistent and Locketts boom-bust point production has been on display.

He is a solid fantasy option but if are looking for 15 points every week Lockett is not the guy to have on your roster. In eight weeks thus far Lockett has scored 10 or fewer fantasy points in a PPR league. Since Week 7 Lockett has one TD and no 100-yard receiving games.

Tyler Lockett's Fantasy Finishes:

Week 7: WR1
Week 8: WR58
Week 9: WR63
Week 10: WR32
Week 11: WR11
Week 12: WR71
Week 13: WR47
Week 14: WR45
Week 15: WR65

If he didn't have that Week 7 performance, would we still be rostering Tyler Lockett?
— Kyle Yates (@KyleYNFL) December 23, 2020

Of course, we all know Lockett has the ability to explode for a big day every once in a while as he’s had outings this year of 37 and 53 points. In a season where the Seahawks let Russ cook we would like the production of Lockett to be similar to that of his first month of the season. However, it’s just not possible. With DK Metcalf as the best option in the passing game, Lockett will never get the bulk of looks.

#Seahawks Fantasy PPG

Wks 1-9:
– DK Metcalf, 20.98
– Tyler Lockett, 19.56
– Chris Carson, 17.5

Wks 10-15:
– Chris Carson, 15.4
– DK Metcalf, 14.42
– Tyler Lockett, 11.42
— Michael F. Florio (@MichaelFFlorio) December 24, 2020

I also think the Seahawks have realized they do need to run the ball still and will get back to a more run-centric offense in the future which also will limit targets. Because of Lockett’s ability to get 30 fantasy points in a game, he will be of interest to people in acquiring him. Trading Tyler Lockett should be able to net depth at the RB position if need or even add multiple WR3 or RB2 type of players to add depth and value to your team.

Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings WR

Believe it or not, Adam Thielen is 3rd in the NFL in receiving TDs in 2020. He is right behind speedster Tyreek Hill and three behind Tae Adams arguably the best WR in the NFL right now. Thielen is nowhere near as athletic as these guys, and that just shows his commitment to the game and his work ethic. Undrafted in 2013 Thielen has improved every year in his production. He posted back to back 1000 yard season in 2017 and 2018 before being injured last year in 2019 and missing half the season.

He is at 868 yards this year and has a chance to achieve another 1000 yard season while missing a game due to covid. He is having a career year in TDs and his value heading into the offseason will be as high as ever. Trading Adam Thielen may raise some questions considering he’s a top 10 fantasy receiver this year. However, if you need to add depth and building blocks to your dynasty team Thielen is the gateway to doing so. The emergence of Justin Jefferson and Irv Smith as playmakers in the passing game will limit targets moving forward. The youngsters have got their footing in the NFL and been some of the best producers in points at their position the second half of the season.

2020's top Fantasy WRs, prior to Week 17

1. Davante Adams
2. Tyreek Hill
3. Stefon Diggs
4. Calvin Ridley
5. DK Metcalf
6. DeAndre Hopkins
7. Justin Jefferson
8. Adam Thielen
9. Mike Evans
10. Allen Robinson
11. Keenan Allen
12. Robert Woods
13. Tyler Lockett
14. AJ Brown
— Jacob Gibbs (@jagibbs_23) December 29, 2020

The Vikings also have an elite RB in their run heavy offense. Dalvin Cook sees 30 touches a game and is the primary option in their offensive scheme. The Vikings are amongst the bottom of the league in passing attempts and unless there’s a change in coordinator it will stay that way. Trading away Thielen won’t be a good feeling but if you get multiple players back to build moving forward it’s a trade worth doing.

Top 3 dynasty sleepers at WR

By: Ravi Krishnan (Twitter: @masalaESPN)

Over the past five weeks, I have written about WR sleepers as viable fillers for your fantasy lineups. Some of them have panned out — Gabriel Davis, Curtis Samuel, even Russell Gage, to name a few. There are others who have had fleeting moments — Denzel Mims, Jalen Reagor, Laviska Shenault — but have not had sustained viability, even as spot starters.

Given that we are approaching the final weekend of fantasy football, it makes little sense in assessing sleeper WRs for Week 16-17 of 2020. Instead, we figured to look at WRs with massive diamond-in-the-rough potential in 2021. Speaking of WRs, a particularly significant aspect of the 2020 season has been the immediate success of rookie receivers. Several first-year WRs have shone bright ”“ Justin Jefferson has been an absolute stud; CeeDee Lamb, Tee Higgins, and Chase Claypool have consistently flashed WR2/WR3 potential; and even the aforementioned Davis and Shenault have won a week or two for their fantasy owners.

But we will not be looking at any of these certified studs-in-the-making. Instead, I am listing four under-the-radar rookie receivers who have displayed prowess and performance in the latter part of the 2020 season. Each of them has the ability and the opportunity to lead their teams in receiving yards next season, hence making them potential starters for your fantasy team.

Please note that this list does not include any of the players drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, and only includes one player drafted in the second round.

Laviska Shenault Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars (Drafted in the 2nd Round, Pick #42)

The 2020 season has been a disaster for the Jaguars. From the hyper-frequent musical chairs at the QB position, to the lack of quality skill players on both sides of the ball, the Jags have had almost nothing to cherish and much to lament as they hurtle towards a 1-15 finish. The emergence of Laviska Shenault is the only positive aberration. The muti-faceted WR has 577 all-purpose yards — 484 receiving and 93 rushing — to go along with two TDs. He is a threat coming out of the backfield and in this regard, is an apt example of the new-age WR profile with versatility. Looking ahead, the Jags will most likely have ace-QB Trevor Lawrence at the helm, and a changed offensive coaching regime. With the potency possessed by the rushing attack in the form of rookie sensation James Robinson, this is an offense that should look a lot better in 2021. And for that to happen, Shenault must be a key cog in the wheel. He is the perfect complement to DJ Chark’s deep threat value and Keelan Cole’s chain-moving role.

Current Status in Fantasy season 2020: #69 among WRs in Points-Per-Game

Projected ranking for 2021: Top 35 WR

Gabriel Davis, Buffalo Bills (Drafted in the 4th Round, Pick #128)

I have devoted voluminous space in this column in the past few weeks on Gabriel Davis. Playing in a pass-happy offense, with breakout QB Josh Allen at the helm, and with WR2 John Brown missing significant chunks of the season with injuries, Davis has shown ample glimpses of his value — 459 receiving yards in a semi-regular role and six TDS. One would expect the Bills to stay with a similar offensive scheme next year as well, and while Stefon Diggs is the receiving numero uno there, the WR2 role is Davis’ to lose. And yes, I know Cole Beasley has been a pleasant surprise this season, but he is more of a classic under-sized slot receiver manning the middle. Gabriel Davis is the one likely to step into a major role next season, and if that were to happen, we might be looking at a 1000-yard, 9-10 TD stat-sheet by the end of 2021.

Current Status in Fantasy season 2020: #82 among WRs

Projected ranking for 2021: Top 30 WR

Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears (Drafted in the 5th Round, Pick #173)

Allen Robinson is NOT going to be a Chicago Bear in 2021 ”“ that is almost guaranteed. So, who takes on the mantle of the primary receiving threat for the Mitch Trubisky-led (or Matthey Stafford) Bears next season? Well, if early signs are any indication, it should be rookie wideout Darnell Mooney. He has 500 receiving yards thus far in 2020 to go along with four TDS, and this has been in an extremely boring/unimaginative offense that Matt Nagy hides under the guise of creativity. Hopefully, the Bears’ game-plan for 2021 calls for safer throws, higher rate of catchable passes, and a stronger offensive line. The realization of these key factors should enhance Chicago’s offense, and Darnell Mooney the primary receiving benefactor. His only competition for the role will be perennially under-achieving Anthony Miller; Mooney should have no problems usurping Miller for the WR1 role there.

Current Status in Fantasy season 2020: #79 among WRs

Projected ranking for 2021: Top 30 WR

Donovan Peoples-Jones, Cleveland Browns (Drafted in the 6th Round, Pick #187)

The Cleveland Browns have been a revelation in 2020. While their core strength on offense is their studly rushing attack led by Nick Chubb, it must be said that the passing offense managed by Baker Mayfield has climbed a few notches as well. Odell Beckham’s season-ending injury was rather unfortunate, though; on an even more somber note, that injury possibly spells the end of the OBJ-era in Cleveland. In his potential absence, Jarvis Landry will take over the chain-moving WR role, as that has been his core competence for the past several years. That will then open-up the deep threat role in a high-level offense — and that is where rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones fits in perfectly. On a mere 17 targets thus far in 2020, the rookie has amassed 293 yards and two TDS, for a ridiculous 27-yards-per-catch average! He leads the top twenty rookie WRs in catch-rate and he is doing this with targets that have higher degree of difficulty (deep throws). This, my friends, is my game-changing sleeper WR for 2021. In a starting role for a good offense, he will prove to be more than a reasonable replacement for Odell Beckham in 2021.

Current Status in Fantasy season 2020: #89 among WRs

Projected ranking for 2021: Top 25 WR
