Tade away these second year players!

By: Andy Davies

Fantasy Football has become an integral part of many fans’ NFL Sunday experience. Whether you use ESPN, NFL.com or Sleeper, you are often watching Redzone and thinking about the points that your player is scoring for your team. Even when your team plays, if you have one particular wide receiver, you are often wanting your quarterback to throw to the player in question. The great Albert Einstein once said,

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe”.

This quote has a lot of relevance to fantasy football. How often will you pick a player when they are in form, only for them to hardly score any points when you add them via waivers? How often do you take a player out or leave them on your bench, only to see them recover 30 receptions, 150 yards and 3 touchdown receptions? There are plenty of players who impress in year one that you either keep in a dynasty league or take in the fantasy draft, only for them to perform well below expectations in year two.

Here are three second-year players that you should look to trade away in fantasy football, if you haven’t already.

Darnell Mooney (Wide Receiver- Chicago Bears)

Mooney impressed in year one, with 631 receiving yards from 98 targets in his rookie year along with four touchdowns. This was Mooney catching balls from Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles, two quarterbacks that didn’t exactly light up Soldier Field during their time as Chicago Bears. He now has two much more solid QB’s on paper in Andy Dalton and rookie Justin Fields but has so far recorded less than satisfying numbers despite leading the team in receptions (12). He has 101 receiving yards and 0 touchdowns. This has him 95th in the league for receiving yards, tied for 60th in receptions and 47th for targets. This is an average of 34 yards a game.

He hasn’t been helped by poor quarterback play. Dalton was the Week One starter and has thrown for 262 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception before injury meant he lost his starting role in Week Three to Fields, who less than impressed in his first NFL start. He had 0 touchdowns, 1 interception and just 138 passing yards. One of his specialities is on the ground but has just 46 yards from 14 carries. Of course, he is young and needs time to develop but he is not exactly someone you want throwing the ball to one of your fantasy receiver options.

Despite this, I would choose to bench him if you are in a dynasty league but remove completely from your team if you are in a keeper or redraft league. The value is there for the future but this season there will be plenty of growing pains in this Bears offense.

Jalen Reagor (Wide Receiver- Philadelphia Eagles)

Mooney may be one for the future both on the field and on your fantasy team. Reagor however, is someone you should immediately remove as he is looking more and more like an NFL bust.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has largely impressed this season, with 5 passing touchdowns and 2 interceptions, 1 rushing touchdown along with 780 passing yards and 179 rushing yards. This has him 16th in the league for passing yards, with only Lamar Jackson (251) having more rushing yards than Hurts for a quarterback. Reagor does not have the same excuse as Mooney when it comes to which QB is throwing him the ball. He cannot even blame it on a lack of throws his way, with the second-most targets and the most receptions on the team this season. Yards is where he has really struggled, with his 107 ranking fourth amongst his teammates. This shows a lack of productivity when receiving the ball, as can be further demonstrated in his yards per reception total of 8.2. Not only is this less than tight end Dallas Goedert, who also has more yards, but this also is less than fellow tight end Zach Ertz and running back Miles Sanders. When a running back has more yards per reception than you, then there is a real problem.

Reagor was taken 21st overall by the Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft and this was seen by many to be a reach. So far, the predictions are turning out to be true. Even in the eleven games he played in his rookie year last season, he was fifth in targets (54), receptions (31) and touchdown receptions (1) as well as ranking fourth in yards (396). With head coach Doug Pederson fired and replaced with Nick Sirianni, Reagor would have hoped for the chance to stake his claim as the number one wideout. When Philly traded up two spots to take Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith tenth overall, the writing appeared on the wall for Reagor to become the number one wideout. The way Smith and fellow second year receiver Quez Watkins have played so far, Reagor will find it hard to be anything more than a third or fourth choice wideout.

This is why you need to get rid of Reagor instantly from your fantasy teams and look for a replacement instantly. Two wide receivers that could easily be available and that are trending up are the Tennessee Titans’ wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Buffalo Bills receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Westbrook-Ikhine had 53 yards, 4 receptions and 1 touchdown in their win over the Indianapolis Colts. Many had Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley as the Bills’ two receivers to take in their fantasy teams, with Sanders often a forgotten man. He has excelled so far, with 194 yards and 2 touchdowns from 11 receptions despite being third on the team for both targets and receptions.

Tua Tagovailoa (Quarterback- Miami Dolphins)

It is likely that you are reading this having had Tua in your fantasy teams, that he is now out of your teams due to his rib injury suffered in the 35-0 loss to the Bills in Week Two. However, there are more reasons why you should get rid of the second-year quarterback altogether. His average start to the season was halted with the aforementioned injury. The heath of Tua was brought into question pre-draft last year, with a season-ending injury whilst playing in college with Alabama. People such as myself compared this situation to the one that was seen with Saints quarterback Drew Brees, when he suffered many injuries with the San Diego Chargers.

Miami didn’t take Brees in 2006 thanks to these injury concerns and everyone knows how successful he was after joining the Saints and head coach Sean Payton. Miami took the risk and so far, it is not looking like one that paid off. Tua will always be hindered by how well Justin Herbert has performed since being taken just one pick after Tagovailoa. With the past incident involving Brees in 2006, it is ironic that the Chargers took Herbert, who has been a revelation in Los Angeles and is arguably the best QB to be taken out of last year’s draft, with 5,292 yards, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his young NFL career.

With the Houston Texans reportedly softening their stance on Deshaun Watson, who is 99% likely never to play for the franchise again. Miami have repeatedly been linked with Watson and with the combination of Tua’s injury, backup Jacoby Brissett being nothing more than mediocre as well as this Dolphins team being excellent on defense and only a good o-line and running back away from being a Super Bowl contender, Watson would immediately see an upturn in Miami’s fortunes.

Keep your eyes on this situation #Scoopage #NFL #Texans @NFLonFOX
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) September 29, 2021

Thanks to his college tape and his position in the draft last year, he is likely to find a starting job elsewhere, but he is yet to prove to anyone that he is a genuine franchise QB and someone who is good at the pro level. Therefore you should look to remove Tua from your fantasy team as soon as you can. If you have a dynasty league, perhaps you could keep him on your bench if he moves elsewhere judging by how well Ryan Tannehill has played since leaving the Miami franchise. Otherwise, you should look to see what other quarterbacks are available to have as your backup.

Fantasy football players, you are likely to make many more waiver claims until the trade deadline. Just remember to avoid these three players.

QBs to trade for and QBs to trade away in fantasy

By: Zack Kurt

There are a lot of QBs that are interesting in terms of value or lack thereof. This article goes out to my Superflex/2 QB managers. You want to have QBs that have job security in dynasty as well as being a good fantasy asset on top of that. I didn’t involve any rookies because all of them have job security for at least 2 years.

#Browns Baker Mayfield had a Kanye theme at his postgame presser today. pic.twitter.com/gjHC0wsR1L
— Camryn Justice (@camijustice) September 26, 2021

Trade For:

I am trading for Sam Darnold, I believe he was the best QB coming out of his class in 2018 and I still believe as a pure passer, he is better than Lamar, Baker, Rosen, and Allen (Allen is right on his tail). He has a great arsenal in CMC, Robby Anderson, Terrace Marshall, D.J. Moore, and has looked great 3 weeks into the season. I am a big believer in his coaching system. An argument against Darnold is that when Joe Brady leaves his production will stop. I think he is free of Adam Gase and doesn’t need an incredible coaching staff plus an incredible arsenal. If he just has one he will succeed go get him before people see his true potential.

Ryan Tannehill is one of the best fantasy QB’s in the game and his first two games were not great. Once Tannehill’s O-line got their legs under them it is the Tannehill of old. Buy the dip he is a top 10 guy for a while and is being sold for the same price as Baker. Tannehill has the best WR tandem in the NFL go get Tannehill even in spite of the AJB injury.

Who would like to get Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson on discount? That is essentially what you get from Jalen Hurts Great rushing floor has a solid and has improved as a passer. Has a great option in Devante Smith plus he has solid potions in Dallas Goedert, Jalen Reagor, and Kenneth Gainwell. He has always been a solid passer and improved during the offseason. He is an absolute value at the position even though people continue to sleep on him.

An absolute DIME from Jared Goff for the TD ?

(via @NFLBrasil)pic.twitter.com/LUc2kbf3yc
— ESPN (@espn) September 21, 2021

Trade Away:

The Giants are 0-3 and Daniel Jones has a very bleak future. He has a decent fantasy floor for this year but he is one of the more likely young QB’s that may not have a starting job next year. He has not been able to lead the Giants to very many wins and that is something you want from your QB. He is not strong mechanically, makes lots of poor decisions. The New York Giants have 2 1st round picks next year and I would be shocked if they didn’t try to invest in a QB.

Baker Mayfield is a competent QB but that is about it. He is not a good fantasy asset but he has a secure job. He is a low-end QB2 that has little to no upside. He is one of the safest options at QB but if you want to win a championship he is not the guy. I’d rather have Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, Sam Darnold.

Garbage time Goff is someone who is actually going to be a solid asset for fantasy. However, he is the opposite has a high upside but could lose his job tomorrow. His wr core is not very good and Detroit is in a full rebuild. He has had a nice start to the season because of garbage time. I expect that to continue and on a week-to-week basis I would rather have Goff but his job security is a serious concern. Sell him on his numbers to a competitor this year.

There are a lot of QB’s that I am on the fence on because of the job security and fantasy relevance. These are some of the guys that are trending in the right direction in Darnold, Hurts, and Tannehill however I am moving on from Baker, Daniel Jones, and Jared Goff. Everyone values these different QB’s differently don’t be afraid to send trades because dynasty never rests!

Here are the top sleeper QBs to trade for

By Chris Moore (Twitter: @fantasy_moore)

We are now three weeks into the NFL season, and we are starting to see what players are performing and what players aren’t. In terms of fantasy, it is crucial to view and make adjustments to early-season success. It’s crucial to take in what we have seen over the first three weeks of the NFL season and make the proper adjustments to increase your chances of success in fantasy football. With that being said, I’m going to go over my favorite sleeper quarterbacks to trade for.

Kirk Cousins

I expect Kirk Cousins ownership percentage to shoot up after his performance this week, but if he’s still available in your league, get him. Cousins has been on fire to start the year, passing for 918 yards and eight touchdowns through three weeks. Cousins is currently the QB7 on the year, and with the Vikings’ defense struggling, I expect the Vikings to be in high-scoring games this year. We don’t know the status of Dalvin Cook’s ankle injury, but if he’s forced to miss even more time, I expect Cousins passing attempts to remain up. Cousins has a trio of great pass catchers, and this offense should remain competitive all season.

Kirk Cousins: 152.4 Passer Rating on 10+ yard throws this season

1st among all QBs ? pic.twitter.com/1GpCGeEp0f
— PFF (@PFF) September 27, 2021

Derek Carr

Derek Carr is another quarterback on this list who is not owned enough in leagues. I expect Carr’s ownership percentage to increase after his performance this week, but if he is out on your waiver wire, get him. Carr has started the season out red hot. The Raiders are 3-0, and Derek Carr is playing some of the best football in his career. Carr has thrown for 1,203 yards and six touchdowns through his first three games. Like the others on this list, Carr has a great supporting cast around him. Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards have both taken strides this year. It also helps that Carr has one of the best tight ends in the NFL on his team. Carr currently ranks as the QB9 on the season, and if the Raiders continue playing like they are, Carr should easily outperform his pre-season draft ADP.

Derek Carr: The only QB with 300+ passing yards in every game this season ?

And the Raiders are 3-0 ? pic.twitter.com/ToJVpnydCF
— PFF (@PFF) September 26, 2021

Sam Darnold

Through the first three weeks of the NFL season, the Panthers look like the real deal. While they have had some easy matchups, this offense looks like the real deal. Darnold has established a great connection with D.J. Moore and is currently the QB6 on the season. I don’t think anyone expected Darnold to be this good, but he’s been great so far to start the year. While the Panthers may be without star running back Christian McCaffrey for a few weeks, the Panthers will have to lean on Darnold with CMC out. We saw the success Mike Davis had in this offense when CMC missed time last year. So I’m not overly concerned about Darnold’s fantasy outlook with CMC out. Darnold has thrown for 888 yards and three passing touchdowns through the first three weeks. I expect the Panthers to lean on Darnold even more during CMC’s absence.

Dynasty QB trades for your fantasy team

By: Will Baptist

Quarterback is the most important position in football, that is true in real life and in fantasy. Having a dominant QB is a crucial aspect of every successful fantasy football team, and as some aging QBs will be fading away, there is a new crop of superstar QBs.

For Dynasty leagues, there are numerous QBs that team owners should be looking to trade away before the season begins. Which also means there are plenty of QBs that every team owner should be vying for before the season begins and those QBs become untouchable.

Here are three QBs that every fantasy owner should be looking to trade for, along with three QBs that every owner should be looking to cut ties with before the year begins.

Three to trade for:

1. Justin Herbert

Justin Herbert is coming off one of the best rookie seasons that a QB has ever had. He finished the year as QB10 and averaged 22.2 fantasy points per game. He threw for 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns, and rushed for 234 yards and five touchdowns. He did all of that with a terrible offensive line and injuries to key players on their roster throughout the season. The Chargers put an emphasis on protecting Herbert this year with the additions of Corey Linsley, Rashawn Slater and Oday Aboushi. Three new starters on the offensive line should be extremely beneficial in protecting Herbert and giving him more time to operate. He also has another offseason to build chemistry with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler. It is no secret that Herbert should be able to improve dramatically on his outstanding rookie season, so even if the asking price is high for Herbert, owners should go all in to acquire him.

2. Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow is poised for a breakout season, similar to Herbert. Burrow was able to show flashes of brilliance before his season was cut short due to his devastating knee injury. He averaged 17.4 fantasy points per game before his injury, and that consists of going up against Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Washington and Cleveland twice. Those are all dominant defenses and good overall teams that Burrow had to deal with, with a mediocre supporting cast. This season is much different, and the Bengals have done a much better job of surrounding Burrow with the pieces that he needs to be successful. They have improved their offensive line with the additions of Riley Reiff and Jackson Carman. Joe Mixon and C.J. Uzomah are healthy going into 2021 after battling season ending injuries last year. The Bengals also drafted Burrow’s college teammate, Ja’Marr Chase. All of these moves point to Burrow having a huge season. Owners might be able leverage his knee injury to offer less than usual in a trade for him, but either way owners should be trying to trade for him immediately.

3. Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield put together an efficient 2020 campaign where he finished the year as QB17. Some fantasy owners may be skeptical of Mayfield due to the run-heavy offense that Kevin Stefanski installed when he took over as head coach. Mayfield is still growing and after another offseason of learning Stefanski’s playbook, they will be inclined to give Mayfield more control of the offense. With Odell Beckham Jr. coming into the season healthy after missing almost 10 games in 2020, Mayfield has his number one option back. They struggled together in 2019, but they have a brand new coaching staff and are a much better overall team than in 2019. The Browns are not a surprise anymore, and they are a trendy pick to win the AFC North. This means opposing teams will have better game plans to deal with their rushing attack, and they might be forced to throw the ball more often. It should not take too much to trade for Mayfield, so every owner that desperately needs a QB should be looking into acquiring him soon.

Three to trade away:

1. Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is still easily one of the best QBs in the NFL and in regular fantasy football I would not hesitate to draft him. Even with the uncertainty surrounding him and if he will report to training camp, that will scare off some owners and he could slip in the draft. In dynasty leagues, I would look to move him as soon as possible. He is coming off of an MVP season where he was QB3, and averaged 23.9 fantasy points per game. At 37 years old, his stock might not ever be higher than it is right now. If he does play this year, it will likely be his last season with the Packers. Even though we have seen aging QBs be extremely successful with their second franchise (Tom Brady), it is not wise to put all your eggs in that basket. His departure could get even more ugly and who knows what team he will be traded to and what his supporting cast will be. I expect Rodgers to have another dominant season this year, but his future is unpredictable. Trading him away before the season or right when the season begins could net the most in return, and I believe it is a smart move to move on from him while you still can.

2. Tom Brady

Tom Brady does not have much left in the tank at 43 years old. Yes, he is coming off of a Super Bowl victory and has Bruce Arians as a head coach, along with finishing 2020 as QB7. That type of production has to come to an end at some point, and trading him away while you can net the most return is the smartest move an owner can make. It is challenging to say how much some owners would be willing to give up, but there are always owners who feel they are one or two players away from having the best roster in their league, and Brady just grabs people’s attention. Brady will likely still have a stellar 2021 season, so you might have to wait until the year begins, when Brady reminds everyone that age is just a number. Having a backup QB is essential, and if you have a young QB in place, then moving Brady right now would be the best course of action for a dynasty league.

3. Matt Ryan

Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons could be parting ways after this season. After the Falcons moved on from Julio Jones, it seemed like Ryan could be the next domino to fall. Ryan has been a fantasy darling since 2010, and has thrown for over 4,000 yards every single season since 2011. He was QB12 last year and finished with a 17.5 per game average. He showed that he can still be a top-15 QB, and with the addition of Kyle Pitts that might not change this year. Which is why I would consider moving Ryan before it’s too late. He should have another great season and have games where he looks like one of the best QBs in the league, but I don’t anticipate that becoming the norm. He is 36 years old, and his tenure in Atlanta could be coming to an end soon. If they have a rough season, he could be on the trading block fairly quickly. I don’t trust Ryan to be a top-20 QB outside of Atlanta, so moving while his stock is at its highest is paramount.

Sell Daniel Jones

By: CJ Krause

Normally a quarterback under the age of 25 is a hold in Superflex formats. BUT here are a few players I believe need to be sold before the bottom falls out or because their value has probably hit its peak.

Drew Lock

It seems Drew’s days are numbered in Denver. There have been rumblings of Denver being aggressive in attempting to acquire Deshaun Watson, and lately, rumors of potentially signing Ryan Fitzpatrick. With John Elway stepping down as the GM, and George Paton taking the reins, I’m sure he will want to make his mark on the franchise. He also has the green light from the organization that if he chooses to, he may move on from Lock. Us fantasy owners were optimistic just a year ago with one of the best young group of pass catchers at Lock’s disposal, especially after coming off a hot streak to end the 2019 season ”¦ but Lock flopped, only averaging 15.10 fantasy points per game and finishing as QB 23 in 2020. Lock also had his completion percentage drop from 64% to 57% AFTER the upgrade in pass catchers.

For a return I would be aiming for a late 1st to early 2nd round rookie pick. But I would settle for a mid-round 2nd to get out before it is too late.

Daniel Jones

Unlike Lock, this is not a get out at any price. I do think Danny Dimes is the unquestioned starter in 2021. I would, however, definitely be looking to get an upgrade because I believe the bottom could fall out in 2021. Typically, what we see in our sophomore QB’s is a step forward. However, in his second season, Daniel Jones took a step back. Some of this could fall on him missing his All-Pro Running Back Saquan Barkley, but his yards per game went down from 232 to 210 (that is 30 yards per game below league average for 2020). We also saw Daniel Jones’ passing touchdowns go from 24 in 2019 to 10 in 2020. Not good. The good news is he could turn it around because he is young. BUT if the price is right, I would sell because if he doesn’t, the Giants will be looking for a new signal caller in 2022.

For a return I would be aiming for a late 1st with a 2nd round or player on top. My big goal is to try to find somebody who still believes in Daniel Jones and swap or add to him to get a slightly older safer QB like a Tannehill, Stafford, or Kirk Cousins.

Jalen Hurts

One of the most enigmatic situations in the NFL is the one in Philadelphia. With the recent trade of Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts, the stage is set for Jalen Hurts to be the heir apparent ”¦ or is it? The Eagles have the sixth pick in the NFL draft and this year’s draft has one of the best QB classes of the past few years. It’s not out of the question, though highly unlikely, that the Eagles decide they want to roll with a Justin Fields or Zach Wilson instead. I honestly don’t see this happening, but they will be bringing someone in. If I had to put money on it, we will see a QB like Tyrod Taylor or Jacoby Brissett type who have similar skill sets to Jalen. I believe this will be to push Hurts but not take over the job. Regardless, Jalen is an almost complete unknown. We have a small sample size of four starts and yes, for fantasy he has the Konami Code of rushing averaging 68 rushing yards per game. That gives him a great floor and ceiling for fantasy. BUT with never breaking 57% completion percentage in any of the starts for the real NFL, he may be sat or replaced sooner rather than later if he does not improve. So, it might be best to sell high now. We need to remember Jalen Hurts was not drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft to be a starter, he was drafted to be the back-up to Carson Wentz and do “gadget” and “Taysom Hill” style plays.

For a return I would be looking for either an early 1st round rookie pick in 2021, a mid 1st round pick and lesser QB, or a 2022 1st round pick, because the upside is immense for Jalen but the floor is in the basement.

Dynasty QBs to drop NOW

Drew Lock

Yes, Lock is only twenty-four. Yes, he was a very highly drafted quarterback who many people had high expectations for. Yes, I am suggesting you give up on him.

Since this is a dynasty report I don’t think you have to just go out and drop Lock this week and call it a day, especially if you are in a super-flex league. At the end of this year with a couple of missed games, Lock officially finished as the QB23, throwing for 2,933 yards on 443 attempts with 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions to go with them.

Lock has flashed multiple times in his Denver career but the majority of the time he has looked irresponsible with the football, consistently panic throwing into double or triple coverage. I don’t have the guts to sit here and tell you that Lock has a zero percent chance of being a franchise quarterback, but that hope is exactly what you should capitalize on this offseason with Lock.

Vic Fangio: Drew Lock "can be" Broncos starter in 2021, but needs to improvehttps://t.co/wpTnT4aWNW pic.twitter.com/JC91ieMIxS
— Around The NFL (@AroundTheNFL) January 5, 2021

Most of the arguments I have seen about why analysts like Lock center around his surrounding cast, which is a fair case. Having Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant, KJ Hamler, and Melvin Gordon surrounding you should make success come easy and hopefully next year we get to see all those players on the field at the same time.

With that said, Lock has not been able to produce what the Broncos have been looking for and the GM that took him in the draft, John Elway, has stepped away from the position into a new role. That means the future of Drew Lock’s position in the franchise will be in the hands of whoever takes that job over and I am not confident they will like him as much as Elway did.

If Lock rolls out 2021 as the starter and fails, it very well could be the beginning of the end of his career in the NFL. Take this offseason as the time to move him for a more secure fantasy asset.

A couple of people I would be reaching out to see if you can acquire would be Matthew Stafford and Ryan Tannehill, who tend to both be undervalued in dynasty formats because of their lack of flair and you may be able to get more back because of Lock’s age.

Teddy Bridgewater

I have been a Teddy fan for a long time, I loved his accuracy coming out of college and just how great of a person he is so this one hurts a little bit to write.

With that said Bridgewater finished his first season as a Panther with 3,733 yards, 15 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a QBR of 64.1. Those numbers aren’t horrible but they are exactly what Teddy has been for his entire career; average.

Similarly to Lock I think this offseason is the perfect time to move on from Teddy two gloves, mainly before the 2021 NFL Draft. Right now there are already questions swirling in the Panthers organization if Teddy is the answer for the team’s future, but nothing concrete.

In Teddy’s entire career this has been the best season he has had and it led to being the QB19, if that is his ceiling finish then there is no reason to continue to believe he can amount to being a QB1. I expect the Panthers to take a quarterback in this year’s draft if only to just bring in some competition for Teddy next year.

If the Panthers decide to move on from Bridgewater it could be the last chance he gets at being an NFL starter. I would be comfortable dropping Bridgewater for any quarterback with at least a chance at a ceiling like Jameis Winston, If you’re in a super-flex league go try and trade him for anything you can get whether that’s a third-rounder this year or the next.

Cam Newton

Talk about ending the year with a bang, in all likelihood this was Newton’s last game as a Patriot and he finished the game throwing 21-30 for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns. He added eleven carries for 79 yards to go with it.

Of the three people on this list, he is surprisingly the most likely in my mind to find success in 2021 but I’m not sure his career is going to last much longer than that. Throughout the year Newton only threw for eight touchdowns, three of which came in this last week.

Newton has the highest pedigree of the three quarterbacks on this list and finishing the year on a high note may have given him a chance at starting for a different team next year. That could make it hard to move on from him after the offseason hype for wherever he goes. Newton just hasn’t looked right since tearing his rotator cuff in December of 2016–he had to drastically change his throwing mechanics which led to him throwing for under 3000 yards for the first time in his career.

Newton is still a monster of a rusher which always helps keep him afloat as a fantasy option, especially if he gets a chance with a team that has more supporting talent than he had in New England. My suggestion with Newton is to ride out the offseason and wait until he gets the opportunity to sign for another team and wait for the hype to build up around him again, as it did with New England, and trade him at peak value.

If this is indeed it for Cam Newton in New England, I’m glad it ended on a high note.

I wish him all the luck on his next stop and thank him for all the hard work and leadership he put into it this season. https://t.co/8n5h8oImos
— Pats Buzz (@PatsBuzz) January 3, 2021
