Does Jamaal Charles belong in the Hall of Fame?

By: Jake Rajala

Jamaal Charles was a mythical ball-carrier for the Kansas City Chiefs – where he garnered two, first-team All-Pro selections & four Pro Bowl selections. Charles unleashed five, 1,000+ rushing yd seasons with KC. In his first AP season, he unleashed 1,467 rushing yds, 5 rushing TDs, and averaged 6.4 YPC. In Charles’s second AP season, he unveiled 1,287 rushing yds, 12 rushing TDs, and averaged 5 YPC. After his long span of dominance in a Chiefs uniform, Charles played one season in Denver and one year in Jacksonville. Charles, who doesn’t really have a great nickname, officially retired in the 2019 off-season. With that stated, there is an intriguing, pivotal question surrounding the former Chiefs RB at this point: Is Charles a future Hall of Famer?

We are now Jamaal Charles number of days away from the start of Texas’ 2022 season! pic.twitter.com/GbI7YQF1qj
— Hook'em Headlines (@HookemHeadlines) August 9, 2022

Charles has a very rushing production as the HOF RB Marcus Allen. The former Raiders RB has two, first-team All-Pro seasons and six Pro Bowl selections. Allen ran for six, 800+ rushing yd seasons in his career – while Charles has five seasons of 800+ rushing yds. Although, Allen does separate himself from Charles by having a Super Bowl ring and an MVP ring.

I suspect the recently dominant Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch, who has a similar resume as Charles, to be cast in the HOF. Marshawn Lynch has five Pro Bowl selections and one first-team All-Pro nod – despite not having a Super Bowl ring. Beastmode also has several seasons of 800+ rushing yards.

All in all, I really expect Charles to be cast into football heaven. He may not wear a gold jacket soon, but he should end up in Canton in the future.

Latest Jamaal Charles tribute

By: Jake Rajala

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Jamaal Charles 73rd overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. The former Texas RB wasn’t a star in his rookie season (629 total yards and 1 RRTD in 16 games), but it was clear that he proved to be a major steal for the Chiefs in his second season: 1,120 rushing yds, 5.9 YPC, and 8 RRTD. Charles climbed the ladder in his third season, as he unveiled a magical, All-Pro season. The blistering quick Chiefs RB ran for 1,467 yards, 6.4 YPC, and even recorded 468 receiving yds in 2010.

that man Jamaal Charles was something else pic.twitter.com/LAPRWyu98j
— Texas Longhorns (@TexasLonghorns) May 6, 2022

Charles would make the Pro Bowl in 2012, 2013 (including an All-Pro spot), and 2014. Charles would oust a career-best 19 total touchdowns in 2013 while recording a personal best 1,980 total yards. It was clear that Charles was a Top-3 RB and the Chiefs were able to maximize his ability in the rushing/receiving game.

Unfortunately, Charles went from a blockbuster RB to an injury-riddled RB that lost his spark after the 2014 season. On October 12th of 2015, Charles suffered his second torn ACL in his career. The Chiefs oddly lost one game after Charles tore his ACL in 2015.

Charles was an aging RB that suffered multiple ACL injuries and it was clear that a gifted RB like Charles couldn’t re-discover utterly explosive ability at that point. Charles wasn’t able to register 300+ rushing yds in 2016, 2017, or 2018.

Jamaal Charles will practice for the Chiefs today for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last season. pic.twitter.com/LF0X0EGAGP
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) August 16, 2016

Charles would end his mystical career as a Chief on May 1st, 2019. He signed a one-day contract with the organization that drafted him and then took one last carry from Patrick Mahomes on the practice field after the ceremony. It seems clear that Charles will join the Chiefs ring of honor in the future.
