Week 6 is a pivotal point in the fantasy football season. If your team is struggling you’re not out of it yet but you will need to start stacking some wins. Unfortunately, week 5 featured some high-profile injuries that will shape the rest of the season. James Conner and Justin Jefferson were put on IR and will be out for at least the next four games. De’Von Achane has a knee injury and he may also end up on the IR. Below let’s highlight some other injuries that will impact the week 6 NFL slate.

Roschon Johnson – Johnson left the game against the Washington Commanders with a concussion. His status for week 6 is still uncertain but don’t be surprised if he sits. The Bears also lost Khalil Herbert to an ankle injury leaving D’Onta Foreman as the only healthy back.

Javonte Williams – Williams missed the week 5 matchup with a quad injury but it looks like he will return Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. Williams practiced in full on Tuesday which is a great sign going forward.

Travis Kelce – Kelce picked up an ankle injury in the week 5 win at Minnesota. He was able to practice on Tuesday but it was in limited fashion. With a quick turnaround and a Thursday night game, Kelce’s status is certainly up in the air.

The Chicago Bears are looking to bounce back after a tough 2022 campaign where they finished with a 3-14 record. Despite the poor record, there were some bright spots on the Bears that they can build on in 2023. Now that Aaron Rodgers is out of the division is this the year the Bears compete for the NFC North? Let’s break that down further and offer a record prediction for the 2023-2024 season.

The Good

All aboard the Justin Fields hype train. It’s hard to ignore the hype around the future of Fields after last season. Fields carried the Bears offense for much of the year as he developed as an NFL quarterback. Fields wowed on several occasions with his legs, making highlight reel plays. 2023 is a big year for Fields and the Bears have shown they are all in on the former Buckeye when they decided to trade the #1 pick. They now have a true #1 wide receiver in D.J. Moore to finally give a boost to the Chicago passing game. There is a lot to like about Justin Fields’ game and if he can continue to develop as a passer the sky’s the limit.

Embed from Getty Images

The Bad

The Chicago Bears led the league in rushing yards last season thanks in large part to Fields. Still, you can’t discount David Montgomery and his 801 yards that helped balance the Bears offense. Montgomery is no longer with the Bears as he signed a 3-year deal with the rival Detroit Lions this past offseason. The Bears will now rely on Khalil Herbert and D’Onta Foreman, who they recently brought in.

Herbert and Foreman are both solid running backs but neither of them has shown they can be the full-time starter. While it may not seem like a big deal due to Fields rushing ability it may come back to hurt them in the long run. Defenses will now start to take away Fields rushing ability and make him throw more from the pocket. This will make the play-action game that much more important and in order for it to work defenses will need to respect it. If I were the Bears I would be looking at bringing in one of the FA vets like Ezekiel Elliott before the season starts.

The Prediction

There is no doubt the Chicago Bears will improve upon last year’s 3-14 record. The problem is the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are also trending up and will keep the Bears from competing in the division. I predict Chicago will finish with 8 wins and will come close to a Wild Card berth. To me, the 2024-2025 season is the year the Bears will make the playoffs and make some noise.

2023 Record: 8-9 (3rd in the NFC North)

Who will win the NFC East?

By: Nathan Nguyen

Big Blue may not make the Super Bowl this year (like they did in 2011). But, even with all the circumstances last night, they pulled off the 20-12 win over the Chicago Bears. It’s safe to say all three stages of the game made their mark on Sunday, and we’re going to break it down right now.

Let’s face it: the New York Giants do not need a quarterback.

Okay, that may be an overreaction.

Daniel Jones was obviously the starter at quarterback heading into the season. The same was the case against Chicago. He played well, even if he only threw for 87 yards. Call him Daniel Allen or Daniel Jackson, because his arm isn’t the only thing that can give defenses headaches.

DANIEL HIMOTHY JONES.

(via @Giants)pic.twitter.com/FTlKEFEZiQ
— Overtime (@overtime) October 2, 2022

You would think Chicago’s defense would adjust and prevent that from happening again. Well…

Daniel Jones SECOND rushing touchdown of the game! pic.twitter.com/3zEinlIMTp
— Bobby Skinner (@BobbySkinner_) October 2, 2022

Yup, this team is a running team. Personally, I don’t blame coach Daboll for relying on the run. These wide receivers are not getting the job done. The best statline from a wide receiver on Sunday was Darius Slayton, who had one catch for 11 yards. The leading receiver against Chicago was Daniel Bellinger (three catches for 23 yards).

But, those shortcomings will be fixed soon. Hopefully. On the bright side, Saquon Barkley is officially back. 146 rushing yards plus 16 receiving yards? The Giants need to re-sign him ASAP because there is no running back out there that can make something out of nothing. For example:

The Saquon Barkley we all know. pic.twitter.com/wom1OH7nke
— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) October 2, 2022

Something to note: HOW ABOUT DANIEL JONES WITH THE BLOCK? This play was one to remember, as Barkley made something that looked like a big loss into a first down. It would lead to Daniel Jones’s second rushing touchdown of the day.

Unfortunately, Jones went down with an ankle injury in the second half. In stepped Tyrod Taylor. But, after 30 rushing yards and an interception, he would also get hurt himself.

So, who would step in and be the emergency quarterback? There was no other quarterback available to play. Right?

Both of the Giants QBs are injured.

Saquon Barkley is the QB3 pic.twitter.com/m9Al8vXIXU
— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) October 2, 2022

Well, that works.

How About That Defense?!

Yes, Justin Fields threw for more yards against New York than he ever did during the first three games of the season. Chicago still only scored 12 points.

This Giants defense is for real. Wink Martindale deserves all the praise in the world because of his defensive scheme. Fields was sacked six times and the offense was held to 5/15 on third down. New York also forced three fumbles against the Bears.

No wonder Justin Fields looked sad every time the camera pointed at him. Khalil Herbert was brought back down to earth, only putting up 77 yards on the ground after having 157 the week before.

Constant pressure on the quarterback and not allowing many big plays down the field was the theme for this defense against Chicago. It seems to be working, and this defense is having fun.

Up next, the Giants will travel to London to play against the Green Bay Packers next Sunday.
