The Seattle Seahawks legendary safety Kam Chancellor retired in the 2018 offseason, but his presence has been deeply missed. Chancellor’s unique style of play hasn’t been matched by any current player in the league since he retired. Here is a sneak peek at the unique ability of Chancellor.

Kam’s style of play revolves around laying big hits on opposing players while making interceptions and causing turnovers. I would also feel comfortable saying that Kam is one of the hardest-hitting safeties in all of NFL history. I would say Sean Taylor and Chancellor should be in the same conversation when it comes to hitting ability.

With this enunciated, let’s take a trip to reminisce on the journey of the Seahawks legendary safety. The NFL world is familiar with the “Legion of Boom” and Richard Sherman’s takes are spread like wildfire around social media. Yet, the Seahawks fierce and unique safety Kam Chancellor is slightly in the shadow. So, let’s see what the story of Chancellor reveals.

Bam Bam Kam has played in eight seasons in the professional football league. He entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of Virginia Tech in the 2010 NFL Draft. Many draft analysts pegged Kam as a “project player”, but it didn’t really take long for him to make his mark in the league. In his second season, he punched a ticket to the Pro Bowl. He actually recorded a career-high four interceptions and personal best 13 pass deflections in 2011.

In 2013, Kam helped his team reach the Super Bowl and edge out the mighty Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos squad. Chancellor had a memorable hit against Demaryius Thomas early in the Super Bowl contest, which helped the Seahawks set the tone on defense. The Seahawks would of course win the Super Bowl contest against the Broncos and Malcolm Smith would win MVP. Smith may have won the MVP of the big showdown, but the LOB largely helped the Seahawks defeat the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, and Broncos in the post-season.

Chancellor made three straight Pro Bowls in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Kam was also voted as the 32nd best player in the Top 100 players list from the 2015 season. The bold safety had a very productive season in 2016, but it wasn’t enough to garner a spot in the Pro Bowl.

Chancellor would play his last season in 2017 and it didn’t end with him riding off into the sunset. Unfortunately, the Seahawks safety suffered a neck injury and he had to sit out the rest of the season. The Seahawks SS would of course retire in the offseason following the 2017 season.

Chancellor could be remembered for being the most fearless defender on the Legion of Boom and the most exciting profiles to watch in all of NFL history. Chancellor has kept busy as a golfer and family man in his days after football. Kam will likely go into the Seahawks ring of honor soon, but I don’t expect him to be an NFL Hall of Famer due to his short career and zero All-Pro honors. His mouth-watering highlights and production on the Hawks will still help him be cemented as one of the most mythical defensive players in NFL history.
