<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Latest takeaways from the Eagles depth chart</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By: Jake Rajala</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Philadelphia Eagles certainly have a Rocky Balboa edge heading into the 2022 season. The first, pivotal depth chart for Philly was recently released. With that stated, I&#8217;m going to simply untwine five takeaways from the Eagles depth chart.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I’m gonna go ahead and say it: <br><br>Jalen Hurts will be a pro bowler this year. He’ll garner the respect of his peers, the fans, management, or all three. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Eagles?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Eagles</a> <br><br> <a href="https://t.co/nyqcFNkNPj">pic.twitter.com/nyqcFNkNPj</a></p>&mdash; Emmanuel Acho (@EmmanuelAcho) <a href="https://twitter.com/EmmanuelAcho/status/1556679816971108352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 8, 2022</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Jordan Davis</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Eagles may have a future stud in the behemoth defensive lineman Jordan Davis (who the Eagles traded up for at 13th overall), but it seems that the Eagles are being patient with his development. He&#8217;s currently listed as the second-string DT behind none other than Fletcher Cox (who starts across from Javon Hargrave). Nonetheless, it wouldn&#8217;t be a surprise if the Eagles DT that has dazzled in training camp becomes well-rounded enough to bull-doze OL next to the All-Pro DT Fletcher Cox in Week 1.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Na Jordan Davis is real <a href="https://t.co/HiqHTVPUfj">pic.twitter.com/HiqHTVPUfj</a></p>&mdash; Rich Bussey (@Rich_Bussey) <a href="https://twitter.com/Rich_Bussey/status/1556427213834256384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 7, 2022</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Boston Scott/Kenneth Gainwell</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Eagles are rolling with Miles Sanders at RB1, as expected. After Sanders, it&#8217;s a rotation between the versatile Boston Scott (7 rushing TDs) &amp; the sophomore Kenneth Gainwell (5 rushing TDs last season). Sanders has missed nine contests in the prior two seasons combined. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Jalen Reagor</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The young Eagles WR Jalen Reagor is listed as the second-string WR behind A.J. Brown at the moment. There have been two observations with Reagor thus far. For 1. He&#8217;s had flashes of play-making ability and 2. other teams (CHI and DEN) have expressed interest in acquiring him. It may honestly be wise for the Eagles to ship away the backup WR for the best offer. De</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jalen Reagor just got by James Bradberry in 1v1 for a TD <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Eagles?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Eagles</a></p>&mdash; Eliot Shorr-Parks (@EliotShorrParks) <a href="https://twitter.com/EliotShorrParks/status/1555186757037072390?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 4, 2022</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Derek Barnett</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I really believe that the Eagles edge rusher that has a second life with the Eagles is one of the biggest x-factors moving forward. It will be crucial that he can show growth in 2022, so he can eventually be a dominant edge player when Graham retires. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Marcus Epps</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Eagles young safety Marcus Epps has impressed in training camp thus far. He nicely made an interception on the very first day.Per <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/eagles/news/marcus-epps-is-making-the-most-of-his-opportunity">Eagles Today</a>, Epps stated, &#8220;I&#8217;ve got a lot more confidence out there. I feel like these first few days, I&#8217;ve been flying around. Like I said, I&#8217;m just trying to keep building on that every day because I haven&#8217;t arrived by any means, and I know that. I&#8217;ve still got a lot to learn.&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Philadelphia Eagles clawed their way to a playoff berth last season. The Jalen Hurts-led Eagles could really benefit from x-factors helping them return to the post-season in the improved NFC East. With that said, I&#8217;m going to outline three breakout candidates for the Eagles. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Marcus Epps went for the tackle and came away with the INT ? <a href="https://twitter.com/marcusepps20?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@marcusepps20</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/Eagles?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Eagles</a> <br><br>? <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/WASvsPHI?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#WASvsPHI</a> on NBC <a href="https://t.co/wKBe3zKbof">pic.twitter.com/wKBe3zKbof</a></p>&mdash; The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) <a href="https://twitter.com/thecheckdown/status/1345934355110141952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 4, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Marcus Epps</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It sadly appeared that the Eagles struck out on the Honey Badger sweepstakes. Per <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/eagles-miss-out-tyrann-mathieu-who-plans-sign-saints">NBC Sports</a>, they made it clear that they still had a lot of confidence in Marcus Epps. In fact, the fourth-year safety was performing better than previous starters: Rodney McLeod and Anthony Harris. <a href="https://www.pff.com/grades">PFF </a>ranked him as the 18th best safety last season and his production should spike as a &#8220;full-time starter on a much-improved defense&#8221;. The Eagles additions of Haason Reddick (11 sacks in 2021) and first-round pick Jordan Davis should really help the secondary immediately. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>DeVonta Smith</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Eagles 2021 rookie DeVonta Smith was successful (916 yards, 5 touchdowns), but I expect to be one of the league&#8217;s top WR2s in 2022. He wasn&#8217;t quite able to notch a Pro Bowl nod or OROY honors. Jalen Hurts and Smith will continue to grow this off-season, and I foresee the well-rounded Smith capitalizing from AJ Brown&#8217;s match-ups. Besides, Jalen Reagor and Quez Watkins aren&#8217;t close to the same caliber as the former Heisman winner. Brown, Smith, and Dallas Goedert should be the &#8220;be and end all&#8221; receiving weaponry for Hurts.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">DeVonta Smith knew he caught it ?<a href="https://t.co/m1IjHTEbOg">pic.twitter.com/m1IjHTEbOg</a></p>&mdash; Alabama DieHards (@DiehardsAlabama) <a href="https://twitter.com/DiehardsAlabama/status/1474441994604892160?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 24, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Kyzir White</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Eagles new LB Kyzir White had a career season in LA in 2021 (144 combined tackles, 7 TFLs) and he will strive to build on his 2021 season in a more talented 2022 situation. White is a tremendous downhill LB and he should excel behind the big-man Fletcher Cox. Demario Davis was an unearthly LB FA signing for the Saints, perhaps White can be a special pick-up for the Eagles squad. White may be the most underrated FA signing from the Eagles this off-season.</p>
