QB: Mike White NYJ 19% Rostered

Mike White is back after a two week absence from injury. The New York Jets are in a sticky situation with a wildcard spot on the line. In a three game sample size, he averages 18+ FP. He faces a Seattle defense that has cooled of. Look for Mike White to deliver an impressive performance against the Seattle defense. If there are Jets’ WRs available, you may also want to consider scooping them up.

RB: Tyler Allgeier 53% Rostered

Who would have thought Tyler Allgeier could help teams win championships. The Falcons’ RB has been on a role in the past two games. He scored 22.60 FP against the Saints in Week 15 and 15.70 FP against the Ravens in Week 16. He faces an Arizona defense that did play well against Tampa Bay the prior week. Allgeier can be trusted upon to break through for the Falcons.

WR: Isaiah Hodgins NYG 6% Rostered

Isaiah Hodgins has been one of the best kept secrets in fantasy football. Despite being 6% rostered, he has scored 15.40 FP, 15.80 FP and 22.90 FP in three of his last four games. In those games, he has caught a TD and he averages at least five receptions. The Giants face the Colts who have been disappointing on defense. Isaiah Hodgins is primed for another solid game.

TE: Noah Fant SEA 31% Rostered

The hype for Noah Fant at the start of the season has finally arrived as he has been more than solid these past few weeks. He has become Geno’s favorite red zone target as he has three TDs in the last four games. This has helped him average almost 10+ FP these past few games. With the Jets prioritizing D.K. Meltcalf, Noah Fant may have another big day this Week 17.

DEF/ST: Jacksonville Jaguars JAX 8% Rostered

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been on fire and are now the division leader in the AFC South. They come into Week 17 against the Texans in a game they can easily win. The Jaguars have been the seventh best defense in fantasy and have scored double digit FPs for the past three weeks. Look for another great game against the struggling Texans.

QB: Brock Purdy 13% Rostered

The new San Francisco 49ers QB is Brock Purdy and he looked good in the 49ers’ win over Miami. He threw for 210 yards and two TDs after Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt. With Jimmy G out for the year, Purdy has the opportunity to be a solid pick-up especially with all the weapons around him.

RB: Tony Jones 29% Rostered

The Seattle RB injury bug has made it possible for Tony Jones to have an impact late in the season. Kenneth Walker III, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer are facing leg injuries that could hinder them from playing in Week 14. Tony Jones had 32 yards throughout the game in Week 13. Check on updates regarding the Seattle RB situation as Jones could have a big day if three RBs ahead of him are out.

WR: Isaiah McKenzie 43% Rostered

Isaiah McKenzie has had two straight good games ever since he posted zero in Week 11. In Week 13, he caught five passes for 44 yards. The week prior, he caught six passes for 96 yards and a TD. He has been averaging 15.85 FP over the past two weeks. He could be a solid addition especially with the Buffalo defense getting banged up.

TE: Noah Fant 34% Rostered

Noah Fant had an incredible game last week when he caught four passes for 42 yards and a TD. He has been a solid player in the TE position, averaging 7.27 FP in PPR. He and the Seahawks face a Carolina defense in Week 14. Look for Fant to have a solid game.

DEF/ST: Arizona Cardinals 12% Rostered

The Arizona Cardinals face the New England Patriots on MNF. The Cardinals are coming off a bye so the team will be well-rested and have planned the Patriots for the past two weeks. New England, on offense, has been on a little of a downslide for the two of the past three weeks. They have only scored 10 points in two of the last three games. The Cardinals have a chance to break their two-game losing streak if their defense shows up.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

When the Denver Broncos fired head coach Vic Fangio, it was deemed that they were just a quarterback away from being contenders.

And then the Broncos made moves. Nathaniel Hackett was hired, after a spell as the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator. Not long after that appointment, the team went big in their search for a new quarterback. They traded a 2022 and 2023 first-round and second-round pick as well as a fifth round from this year and gave away Drew Lock, Noah Fant and Shelby Harris in exchange for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and a fourth-round pick.

This was supposed to be the answer. However, so far it has been far from that.

The Broncos have lost their last two games and currently sit at 2-3 after their first five games with their new head coach and quarterback duo. Neither has set the world alight.

In five starts, Wilson has thrown for 1,254 yards, just four touchdowns and three interceptions. This would have projected to finish the season with 4,264 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Whilst those projected yards would actually be a career best, it would be an all-time career low in touchdown passes, six less than his current worst in 2014. He would only have four seasons with more interceptions than nine. 

Russell Wilson is said to have requested the trade, and many felt Pete Carroll’s run-first offense was holding him back. However, all Wilson has shown us in 2022 is that perhaps Carroll was doing this for a reason.

Against the Colts, Wilson threw an awful interception and despite having 274 passing yards, he threw for zero touchdowns and two interceptions. With the exception of one great run and one great pass, Russ had no moments of excellence. He was incapable of getting it done in the red zone, seemed to force his passes to his target men, and often missed several open receivers.

Hackett came in as an offensive guy, one that worked with the current back-to-back MVP. Russ was meant to be allowed to cook, presumably one of the reasons if not the main one for Wilson agreeing to join the Broncos. With Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Tim Patrick, he was not short of receiving options. Patrick may have suffered a season-ending injury prior to Week One, but the team still has K.J. Hamler and Albert Okwuegbunam.

His ability to just throw it without properly looking through his reads may have been disguised in recent years due to D.K. Metcalf being the closest thing to Calvin Johnson we have seen since the Hall of Famer retired. Neither Jeudy, Sutton and Hamler have the strength and hands of Metcalf. 

Hackett deserves some portion of the blame, with his questionable play calling and poor time management. He could well be one and done as a head coach for the Broncos. His time so far reminiscent of Adam Gase, a star quarterback glossing over coaching deficiencies. However, he is not the one out there missing open players, making bad throws, and seeming scared to get hit. So far, Wilson looks to have made no difference. With the number of draft picks given up and the long term multi-million-dollar extension given to him, this trade so far looks to be one the team may regret.

Let’s not forget that Wilson still has to play the Chargers and Chiefs each twice.

Granted, a new head coach who actually knows what they are doing may be the difference they need and not every quarterback can do what Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford did on new teams.

Despite this, should Wilson play like this for the rest of 2022 and beyond this trade could be one that potentially affects the team long-term.

The tight end position is gutsy, yet necessary in the game of football. The TE position is even more underrated in the game of dynasty fantasy football. With that stated, I’m going to highlight the TE position in football by untwining five overrated TE faces entering the 2022 season.

George Kittle

The San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle is still a talented profile, but he doesn’t have the sexiest outlook in my opinion. Kittle is coming off his worst season of productivity and he has an uncertain QB as his starter. If you feel iffy about Trey Lance (similar to me) then you should sell Kittle to someone that is head over heels for Lance.

I also expect Brandon Aiyuk to be a major factor in the 49ers offense moving forward.

T.J. Hockenson

It may seem blasphemous for a lot of fantasy die-hards and Iowa fans to pin Kittle and Hockenson on this list. Nonetheless, I don’t foresee a pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow for the Lions TE. The Lions will have more magic lined up for Jameson Williams, D.J. Chark, and D’Andre Swift. Of course, Jared Goff isn’t the most reliable cannon, as well. He is still catching a lot of buzz for his Pro Bowl nod in 2020 – which was a 723 yd and six TD outcome.

Dawson Knox

The Bills TE Dawson Knox had an impressive nine touchdown catches last season, but his new teammate, O.J. Howard, should slightly dock Knox’s popularity and attract a lot of attention from Josh Allen. According to ESPN stats and information, the Bills only ran 100 plays with two TEs last season – which was the lowest in the league. It would be an understatement to say the Bills will use a lot more two TE sets in the upcoming season and Howard will eat up a big part of the TE pie.

Kyle Pitts

The Atlanta Falcons made a very bold move in making Kyle Pitts the highest drafted TE in NFL history. Pitts had a modest rookie campaign – as hauled in 1,026 receiving yards. Although, I foresee Pitts taking a step back w/ the QB switch from Matt Ryan to Marcus Mariota. It’s also an uncertain long-term outlook for the Falcons QB group.

Noah Fant

It could be said that Seattle is where TEs go to die. The Seahawks have a shaky QB situation, to say the least. It should also be noted that the Seahawks QB1 will key in on DK Metcalf and then Tyler Lockett in the offense. Noah Fant has had modest performances (600+ yards in each season) in each of the past numerous seasons, but he shouldn’t climb the ladder with the Hawks.

The Seattle Seahawks don’t have Super Bowl MVP Russell Wilson, but they still have an incredible hulk-like WR in DK Metcalf and a speed demon in Tyler Lockett. Metcalf ousted 12 touchdowns last season and 10 TDs in 2021. PFF also gave him an 80.9 grade for his 2021 performance. Seahawks Wire also stated Metcalf is the best non-QB MVP for the Hawks. Of course, the Hawks likely need to make him the highest-paid WR soon.

Lockett has been a “Marques Colston” like WR — as he has been one of the best players to not make the Pro Bowl. He is coming off his third 1,000+ yard season in 2022. He also has registered 8+ touchdowns in each of the past four seasons. He scored an 81.0 grade by PFF last season. Lockett inked a four-year contract extension worth $69 million in 2021.

Freddie Swain ousted 25 receptions, 343 yds, and 4 touchdowns last season. He clearly isn’t the best WR3 for the Hawks. After Swain, I believe the x-factor in the Hawks WR room is Marquise Goodwin. He recorded a fantastic 2017 campaign with the 49ers — as he unveiled 56 receptions for 962 yds. In 2021, he ousted 20 receptions for 313 yds with the Bears.

The Hawks will also rely on the 24-year-old TE Noah Fant to be a receiving weapon — as he logged 670+ yds in 2020 and 2021. All in all, the Hawks have a slightly above-average receiving group. PFF ranked the Seahawks WR group as the 13th best unit in the league. The Seahawks WR room really needs to unleash their best performances next season for either Geno Smith or Drew Lock.

The Seattle Seahawks may be crossed off by countless football analysts and even countless Seahawks fans. Nonetheless, the “why not us” attitude won’t leave Pete Carroll and I believe the Hawks team that was competitive with Geno Smith against the likes of New Orleans and Pittsburgh last season could surprise folks in 2022. With that said, I’m going to outline a few under-the-radar profiles that may break out of their shell and help the Russell Wilson-less Seahawks compete vigorously in 2022.

Noah Fant

The world’s fastest TE, also known as Noah Fant, is ready to thrive on the west coast. After ousting 670 yds last season, he will look to be more effective in the Hawks TE-friendly offense. Per NBC Sports, Fant expressed that the deep-passing concepts and play-action game will be lethal in Seattle. I also expect that the Seahawks TE1 will have excellent match-ups with opposing defenses focused on D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Drew Lock may not be the starter or a sexy QB option, but he also does have familiarity with Fant.

Tre Brown

The former Oklahoma stand-out Tre Brown underwent a season-ending injury on Nov. 24th last season. Although, he was able to shine in many moments prior to his surgery (as shown below). The third-year CB’s presence will be vital at the starting CB spot against the likes of Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson, and Deebo Samuel.

Geno Smith

The Seahawks honestly took a step back with their QB talent this off-season from Russell Wilson to Geno Smith/Drew Lock. Although, it should be noted that Smith was actually a solid replacement for Wilson last season. The former Jets QB threw a beautiful throw to Metcalf against Marshon Lattimore on MNF and brought the Hawks to OT against the Steelers ferocious defense. Most importantly, my projected starter in Smith will have a full off-season to grow with the Hawks weaponry. I fully expect Smith to have a 2021 David Mills-like performance.

Intro

Every year we as fantasy owners cringe when comes to drafting tight ends. Be it PPR or standard leagues there are just not enough premium TEs available. Once the heavy hitters, Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, George Kittle, and Mark Andrews are off the board the rest of the crop is pretty average to below average.

In this article, we’ll focus on that next tier which can make or break your fantasy squad. I’ll be doing this article based on PPR league rankings/points. With that said let’s get started!

Top three Tight Ends to buy:

T.J. Hockenson

I’m on the hype train for T.J. Hockenson this season. I know the QB position has taken a bit of a hit with Jared Goff now at the helm instead of Matthew Stafford but this shouldn’t affect Hockenson’s value much. The team lost its top WRs in Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Mohamed Sanu.

This now opens opportunities for plenty for Hockenson especially working those underneath routes. Hockenson finished last season as a TE5 with 175.3 total points in PPR formats. I fully expect him to exceed those numbers easily this season! Look for Hockenson/Goff to hit it off early and often this season. Acquiring Hockenson, given the right price is a trade worth assessing and committing to.

Noah Fant

It’s almost unfair the amount of QB uncertainty and bad QB play that Noah Fant has been dealing with. Even with that said Fant finished with 149.3 fantasy points which were good for TE9. Fant’s current ADP has him going in round 7 and later. That to me is an absolute steal!

Drew Lock/Teddy Bridgwater will bring the best in each other (at least we all hope they do) and that should have a direct result in better QB play overall. In addition, top receiving weapon Cortland Sutton will be back and fully healthy, so most of the defensive focus will shift towards him. This leaves Fant to win one on one coverage with slower linebackers and/or smaller safeties. Fant can be had for a tremendous value.

Tyler Higbee

I cant wait to see the chemistry/connection that Stafford develops with Tyler Higbee during this summer and into the season. Higbee finished as the TE8 in 2019 with 160.4 fantasy points. Although last year was a bit of a down year for him I expect him to bounce back in a big way.

Firstly, Stafford is now his QB. A big upgrade over Goff! Secondly, his target stealer (Gerald Everett) is now in Seattle. This leaves Higbee as the best TE option on the team. In 2020 Higbee out-snapped Everett by over 200 snaps! Higbee is set for a big role this season and fully expect him to break out and have a huge fantasy year.

Top three Tight Ends to sell:

Mike Gesicki

I’m just not a believer in the Dolphins QB situation. Mike Gesicki finished as a TE7 with 159.3 fantasy points in 2020. Now with the addition of Will Fuller and rookie Jaylen Waddle to an already crowded receiving core room. There are plenty of weapons on the Dolphins offense and I’m not sure that Tua Tagovailoa will be able to spread the ball around as needed.

This is where Gesicki’s fantasy outlook takes a hit. He might be the odd man out in terms of weekly sustained fantasy production on that team and this is where you as fantasy owners can get solid value for Gesicki. There will be plenty of TE-hungry fantasy managers will take the name and past fantasy production without looking at the complete picture/context. Take advantage of it and sell Gesicki high!

Evan Engram

In a similar boat as Gesicki, Evan Engram is the odd man out. The Giants added Kenny Golladay, drafted Kadarius Toney and will have Saquan Barkley back from injury. Just like with the Dolphins and Tua, I’m not sure if Jones will be able to keep all these mouths happy and fed often enough.

Engram finished as TE15 last season with 141 fantasy points. This is without the above names being on the team last season. Daniel Jones is in a make-or-break season and thus far I haven’t seen enough to convince me that he can be in that top 15 QB tier. Sell Engram as he another big name out there but little fantasy value.

Kyle Pitts

Now before everybody goes crazy as to why I’m mentioning Kyle Pitts, let me explain. This sell on Pitts is for redraft leagues ONLY! Second, I’m only saying sell because of his current ADP value of 4.04. This is insane for a player who has yet to take an NFL snap.

Pitts would have to have one of the greatest rookie TE seasons in NFL history for him to be worth that high of pick. We all have seen how rookies tend to struggle to get adjusted to the NFL level. Pitts will be no different. I’m not saying he will be a bust. What I am saying is that to draft Pitts with your third or fourth pick and say he goes 65/600/5 as his stat line, that would be good for about TE10!

Last season Hunter Henry posted a 60/613/4 line in 14 games with the Chargers good for TE12! You see it’s all about value. You can find other TEs that can give similar production that can be had in a later round. Now if Pitts falls down the ladder to you in rounds eight or later then by all means scoop him up. However, to make him one of your first top five picks isn’t worth it. Sell high and get back a huge haul!
