The Case for Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes (2017-Present) has been the Face of the League dating back to his first Super Bowl win over the 49ers in 2020. He has absolutely dominated the league and has been a total headache for defensive coordinators for years. The star Quarterback’s ability to make off schedule throws, extend the play and his quiet but impossible to defend mobility makes him a problem that no defense has solved yet.

Embed from Getty Images

Appearing in 4 of the 6 Super Bowls possible as a starter Mahomes has accompanied this incredible stat with 28,424 passing yards, 219 touchdowns (not counting rushing) and 63 INT’s. With a career rating of 103.5, the only question on everyone’s mind is can he keep it up?

My answer is yes, Mahomes has answered every narrative of making it back to the Super Bowl this year without incredible weapons, he did it without star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and winning his first two road playoff game in hostile environments (BUF, BAL). With all that being said let’s look at the current GOAT and some other guys Mahomes needs to climb in order to get there.

The Case for Tom Brady

Anytime the GOAT conversation comes up it would be a disservice not to mention Tom Brady who is the consensus GOAT. He has nearly every positive record in the books and is going to keep those for a while. The highest passing yards in NFL history with 89,214, the most touchdowns in history with 649 and let’s not forget 7 Super Bowl rings.

Long story short, the former New England Patriot and Tampa Bay Buccaneer has done it all after starting his career off as a 6th round draft pick. Brady made an impact on football and football fans all around the world for decades terrorizing the league similar to how Mahomes has.

The Case for Peyton Manning

At the time of his retirement Manning held all of the most important records with the passing record (71,940) and the touchdown record (539). This was Brady’s biggest rival with them trading Super Bowl appearances what felt like every year. Many have compared Mahomes and Burrow to them, Manning went 2-2 in the four Super Bowl appearances losing in Super Bowl XLIV 31-17 and Super Bowl XLVII 43-8. On the other hand, he delivered in Super Bowl XLI winning 29-17. His final Super Bowl win came in Super Bowl 50 winning 24-10 and riding off into the sunset.

The Case for Jerry Rice

WR Jerry Rice (1985-2004) the best WR in NFL history had an incredible career catching 1549 balls, 22,895 receiving yards and 197 touchdowns. Making 13 pro bowls and 11 first team all pro teams is one of the most impressive resumes in league history.

Having Joe Montana and Steve Young as his quarterbacks definitely helped his case but doesn’t deny the insane talent Rice possessed. The 6’2 wideout won 3 Super Bowls and a Super Bowl MVP. Keep in mind Mahomes has a chance to get 3 rings with a win over the 49ers in the last game of the 23-24 NFL season.

The Case for Joe Montana

Along with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, these 3 QB’s are looked as at the best to ever play. 40,551 passing yards and 273 passing touchdowns is absolutely nothing to scoff at. 8 Pro Bowl selections, 3 first team all pro selections and 4 Super Bowl rings is what Montana accomplished during the 49ers dynasty. Montana while being a great Quarterback did have an incredible WR in Jerry Rice.

All in all, Mahomes is playing the best football we’ve ever seen a player play. Now the question is: Can he do it for as long as these greats listed above did? We’ll just have to find out after his date with the 49ers in SB LVIII.

Are you a New York Jets fan? How excited are you for Aaron Rodgers to your team? A Super bowl champ and sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer. But wait a minute, lets pump the brakes on this marriage. Let’s not forget, Aaron Rodgers is a slower 39 year old QB who I question still has what it takes to win another Super bowl. Now let’s not take anything away from the Jets who have a young talented team, with a star running back. They also have a formidable defense, who gave offenses havoc last year. Aaron Rodgers will have his weapons on this team, more than he did last year. But if your expecting the Jets to be in the Super bowl next year or the next, it’s not going to happen.

Aaron Rodgers says that he wants to play for the New York Jets ??? pic.twitter.com/xsbfOdDCjA
— ESPN (@espn) March 15, 2023

Have we forgot what division the Jets are in, the AFC East led by the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. And the Miami Dolphins who have a track team on offense, with Tua looking better and better each year. For people expecting the same thing that happened in Denver with Peyton Manning coming in and winning a Super bowl, I’m sorry. Also does everybody remember how excited Denver was with Russell Wilson coming in? Well, fast forward a year and we all see what happened there.

The quarterback position is very important in the National Football League, but you have to look at the whole picture for what the Super bowl formula looks like. Now will the Jets make the playoffs? Maybe, but don’t count on them holding the trophy in February. In addition, to the reasons above we also shouldn’t forget what kind of league it is now. It is a league where speed kills and having a mobile quarterback is extremely important. The Jets formula and how their team looks right now is a good defense, great running game and an aging respectable quarterback. Can that formula win in this league?

I’m not so sure as it is awfully tough. The 49ers were close with that formula, but struggled against a mobile quarterback with weapons all over the field. Finally, the Jets really haven’t been that team that has a stable winning franchise. They’ve struggled and as long as the Patriots, Bills and Dolphins are in that division, don’t count on the Jets even scratching the surface of the Super Bowl.

The quarterback position is the most iconic in the history of the NFL. In over 100 years of the league, it’s often been the quarterback position that centers the greatest moments. Great quarterbacks have spanned generations and have played in many different kinds of offenses throughout those generations. These different generations have also been governed by different standards and rules of gameplay that impact the raw numbers these quarterbacks put up. That’s what makes the question of who is the greatest of all time such a complex one, in spite of the recency bias that too often clouds it.

There is also the factor of championships that clouds this conversation. It’s a difficult balance to keep; on one hand, great quarterbacks often lead their teams to championships; on the other hand, individuals don’t win championships. Winning a championship is the job of a team. To determine who the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history are, all the elements that make up a career need to be properly contextualized, free of any recency bias, raw number worship, or blind adherence to championship wins.

Table of Contents<g fill="#444"></g>

10.
10. Joe Montana

Joe Montana won four Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers dynasty of the 1980s. His efficiency as a passer was unmatched by any other quarterback of his era. He led the NFL in completion percentage five times, including in 1989 at 70.2% through 13 games, an incredible accomplishment in an era far less quarterback-friendly than the league is today.

?? OTD in 1983: The 49ers squeaked by the Lions 24-23 in the NFC Divisional Round!

Montana is also one of the most clutch quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, constantly coming up big in moments when the 49ers needed it. He played a major role in the emergence of one of the league’s all-time greatest players, Jerry Rice, and the tandem became one of the most potent QB-WR pairs the league has ever seen.

9. Aaron Rodgers

Four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers is one of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. He routinely makes throws that would be impossible for the vast majority of quarterbacks who have ever played. His ability to read defenses is also one of his greatest assets. Six times he has led the league in interception percentage index, an important diagnostic tool for making sense out of raw numbers.

The boy @AaronRodgers12 having some fun ? pic.twitter.com/2rl0HYPVey
— Bussin' With The Boys (@BussinWTB) January 2, 2023

The Green Bay Packers have routinely been contenders since Rodgers took over at the helm, leading generally more successful teams than his predecessor Brett Favre did. This speaks to his ability to adjust to a new situation. Throughout his career, he’s helped develop Greg Jennings, Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, and Davante Adams.

8. Drew Brees

In the history of the NFL, there’s been only one quarterback who has helped to redefine the definition of airing it out more than Drew Brees. Four times he threw for over 5,000 passing yards in a regular season. What’s more, five times he completed over 70% of his passes in a regular season. This helped the New Orleans Saints become a perennial contender in the NFC.

Brees led the NFL in yards gained per game played six times, with a high of 342.3 in 2011, and led the Saints to a Super Bowl win to cap off the 2009 season against the Indianapolis Colts. Few players have done more to raise the standing of a franchise in the national sports conversation than he did for the Saints.

7. Sid Luckman

Sid Luckman was coined “the first great T-formation quarterback” by sportswriter Ira Berkow and is still recognized today for his ability to innovate in the passing game. The offensive leader of four Chicago Bears NFL championship teams was proficient in a way no other quarterback was at that particular time. In 1943, an incredible 13.9% of his pass attempts went for touchdowns.

42 | Sid Luckman pic.twitter.com/GC0nlWeLBD
— Jim McMahon (@JimMcMahon) September 28, 2022

Luckman is also remarkable for reasons aside from his playing career, being one of the most prominent Jewish athletes of all time, and playing during World War II while also being a member of the United States Merchant Marines. He is still tied for the most touchdown passes thrown in a game with seven, being the first quarterback in the NFL to accomplish this.

6. Otto Graham

Incredibly, Otto Graham was the leader of seven Cleveland Browns championship teams in his ten seasons. Four of these came in the AAFC before the franchise entered the NFL, a league they held a complete, undisputed dominance over. These teams also featured the great Marion Motley and were coached by the team’s namesake, Paul Brown.

Otto Graham named to NFL’s All-Time Team as top 10 quarterback

? » https://t.co/4RZRiLWXNJ#NFL100 pic.twitter.com/6bdXE8t6SB
— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) December 28, 2019

With seven championships, Graham is tied with Tom Brady as the most decorated quarterback in the history of professional football. He also put up completion percentages over 60% twice in an era with absolutely no pity for offensive play, which is easily the equal of a 70% completion mark under today’s rules.

5. Roger Staubach

Captain America, in many ways, was the prototype for the contemporary scrambling quarterback. Leading the Dallas Cowboys to two Super Bowl wins along the way, Roger Staubach lit up the NFL highlight reel with his elusive style of play which was unlike anything the league had ever seen at that particular time.

Roger Staubach ??

Staubach led the NFL in adjusted net yards per attempt four times and in passing rating index five times, with a high of 144 in the 1971 season. But what he’s remembered for more than anything else is being the leader of “America’s Team” whose style of play never knew a game was out of reach while the football was in his team’s possession.

4. Tom Brady

Tom Brady is the greatest of all time, right? We’ve heard it all a million times over. Pump the brakes. Those seven Super Bowls could easily have been two or three without Bill Belichick’s defenses. Nevertheless, Brady’s unmatched longevity and untouchable records are worth noting in and of themselves. He’ll likely be the only member of the 600-touchdown club to ever exist.

.@TomBrady to @MikeEvans13_ today

– 63-yard TD
– 57-yard TD
– 30-yard TD pic.twitter.com/n8bacnNONd
— NFL (@NFL) January 1, 2023

No one knows when Brady will finally call it a career, but considering 2021 was the first season he threw for over 5,000 yards, it’s possible he continues to play even after the current Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season comes to an end. He’s been one of the inevitable facts of life, along with death and taxes, for over 20 years.

3. Johnny Unitas

The great Johnny U had physical abilities unmatched by any quarterback of his era. He led the NFL in passing touchdowns in four consecutive seasons from 1957-1960. This allowed the Baltimore Colts to win three NFL championships, including a Super Bowl win against the Dallas Cowboys to cap off the 1970 season.

December 28, 1958#NFLChampionship
Johnny Unitas executes the 2:00 drill, hitting Moore once and Berry 3 times setting up a Myra FG to send the game to overtime.
This is the first “sudden death” game in #NFL history #Colts pic.twitter.com/caNaRb7spG
— Old Time Football ?

Johnny Unitas remains one of the most familiar household names among NFL players 50 years since his retirement. That’s a testament to just how he reimagined the possibilities of the quarterback position. The three-time MVP is one of the most complete passers in the history of the NFL, going for over 3,000 passing yards in a season several times in an era when that wasn’t an easy thing to do.

2. Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning is the greatest passer in the history of the NFL and it isn’t even remotely close. With the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos, he was routinely above all other quarterbacks in the league. His 2013 season of 55 passing touchdowns still hasn’t been broken, even with the additional game added to the schedule in 2021.

Manning is the NFL’s only five-time MVP, a mark that likely stands for the foreseeable future. His game IQ is what sets him apart from his contemporaries, including his pocket presence, which was second to none. Despite being a non-scrambling quarterback, he led the NFL in sack percentage index six times, which lends itself to more than just having a good offensive line.

1. Sammy Baugh

Not only is Sammy Baugh the NFL’s all-time greatest quarterback, he’s arguably its all-time greatest player. No quarterback has ever had the efficiency of Baugh, let alone been able to lead the league in defensive interceptions (11 in 1943) while also being the league’s greatest punter. Simply put, he’s an unmatched figure in the history of the league.

To start our look at the Class of 1963 on the anniversary of it's enshrinement, we take a look at the career of Slingin' Sammy Baugh. pic.twitter.com/BoermQL4zB
— Pro Football Hall of Fame (@ProFootballHOF) September 7, 2022

Slingin’ Sammy forced the issue at the quarterback position at a time when that wasn’t generally done, and it paid off. He led the NFL in completion percentage index eight times and interception percentage index five times. In 1945, in ten games, he reached the 70.3% mark, which is nearly impossible to fathom. That number reasonably goes for at least 80% governed by the rules of today’s league. Simply unbelievable.

Does Justin Fields actually have a high ceiling?

By: Jake Rajala

The Chicago Bears second-year quarterback Justin Fields is one of the very most mysterious players in 2022. Fields is coming off a porous 2021 season, where he threw more interceptions (10 ints) than touchdowns (7). Most importantly, he had a miserable 2-8 record in his rookie campaign. He was still able to make splash plays and show glimpses of his magical dual-threat ability (as shown below).

#Bears vs #49ers Justin Fields making magic, are you serious?#DaBears #NFL pic.twitter.com/rk4MBrBVYW
— NFL Rumors (@nflrums) October 31, 2021

It should be noted that Fields was located on Matt Snake Nagy Island last season. It’s also fair to say that many great signal-callers and talented young faces in the league have had rough rookie or sophomore seasons. Profiles such as Peyton Manning (3-13 record in 1998) and Drew Brees (2-9 record in 2003) were deemed busts early in their career. The dual-threat Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts nicely progressed in his sophomore season. Hurts was 1-3 as a rookie starter with 6 passing touchdowns to 4 interceptions. In the Eagles QB1’s second NFL season, he led his team to the playoffs via his arm talent (3,144 passing yds) and rushing ability (784 rushing yds).

Still thinking of this new addition to the Jalen Hurts highlight reel pic.twitter.com/1TWU40WWka
— AlvaradoSZN (on hold) (@The_ZackDanielz) November 22, 2021

With that enunciated, Fields will be highly motivated and gifted with new weapons at his disposal. He may not have A-Rob (412 yards in 12 games last season), but he will grow with Byron Pringle and Velus Jones Jr (outside of the third-year WR Darnell Mooney). In particular, Jones Jr. should be a rockstar target for Fields. Per NBC Sports Chicago, Jones Jr. is “locked-in” with his beloved QB. His 4.31 speed should be a valuable asset from the WR3 or WR2 spot.

Velus Jones Jr.’s birthday is today, and we’re celebrating with some highlights.

?: @ChicagoBears pic.twitter.com/3izxUoIpR0
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) May 11, 2022

I expect Fields and his shiny head coach Matt Eberflus to be able to unveil modest success on offense next season. The Khalil-Mack-less bears may not have a sexy roster, but they will have a strong game plan for their talented QB. I really can see Fields being able to run for 700+ yards and throw around 25 passing touchdowns in 2022. I expect Fields to have growing pains in 2022, but they should lean on him through the ups and downs in the Nick Foles-less QB room. CHI may struggle to have a winning record in the NFC North, but I expect honest and legitimate growth from Fields in his pivotal second NFL season.

Is Bruce Arians bound to be in the Hall of Fame?

By: Khari Demos

In one of the surprise moves in an already topsy-turvy offseason, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians left his post behind, ending a coaching career that spanned 40-plus years throughout the NFL and college football.

Arians is most notably known for his time as the Bucs head coach, as he joined forces with Tom Brady to win the franchise’s second Super Bowl title following the 2020 season. He also guided the Arizona Cardinals from 2013-17, taking the team to the NFC Championship Game in 2015.

But some things people may have forgotten are his prior stints as an assistant coach. He was able to elevate some of the most talented arms in league history outside of Brady ”” Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck, and Carson Palmer.

Bucs coach Bruce Arians on Andrew Luck’s retirement. “Knowing his toughness and his mental toughness, I was very surprised. There’s got to be something wrong somewhere…” pic.twitter.com/kqsKKUejCh
— Rick Stroud (@NFLSTROUD) August 25, 2019

His NFL head-coaching life may have been short-lived, but so was the late great John Madden’s. But the big question now; is Arians a Hall of Famer? It’s something that needs to be discussed.

For starters, we should discuss Arians’ Super Bowl rings. Yes, he did claim one as head coach of the Bucs, but he also contributed to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ most recent title teams (2005, 2008) as a wide receiver coach and offensive coordinator, respectively.

But his biggest selling point may be his work with some of the game’s best QBs. Arians worked with Manning as his QBs coach in his first three seasons in the NFL (1998-2000). After a shaky rookie year, the future Hall of Famer had two Pro Bowl seasons with Arians, which also included two second-team All-Pro nods, as Manning led the NFL in TD passes (33) and passing yards (4,413).

In both the 1999 and 2000 seasons, the Colts had top-five ranked offenses (4th in ’99, 3rd in ’00).

Wondering what Manning did after Arians left for Cleveland? He regressed a bit, amassing 42 interceptions over the next two seasons, and going 16-17 record-wise (including the playoffs).

While as OC of the Browns, Arians did not have a ton of offensive talent during his stint there (2001-03), but he was a major factor in the franchise getting back to the playoffs for the first time in since its return to the NFL in 1999. The Browns’ loss to the Steelers in the 2002 Wild Card round would prove to be Cleveland’s lone postseason appearance until 2020.

Arians would then join the division-rival Steelers, as they went 15-1 in their first season with him on the staff. The team ultimately lost in the AFC Championship game to the eventual-Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, but Pittsburgh would get it back with the Super Bowl XL win over the Seattle Seahawks.

As a WRs coach in Pittsburgh, Arians mentored Hines Ward to a Pro Bowl season in ’04, as well young future Super Bowl heroes in Plaxico Burress and Santonio Holmes. And once he took over as OC, that’s when the Steelers began to see the emergence of Roethlisberger into superstar territory.

Hines Ward also did this to Ed Reed 12 years ago today. ? #Steelers pic.twitter.com/Qt7K4qVd7h
— Blitzburgh (@Blitz_Burgh) November 5, 2019

In 2007, Arians’ first season as Steelers OC, Big Ben had his first 30-TD pass season. While working with Arians (2007-11), the Miami of Ohio product was named the ’07 Comeback Player of the Year and earned his first two career Pro Bowl nods.

Arians helped names like Willie Parker and Heath Miller become fan favorites while with the Steelers. He also groomed Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown to become Pro Bowl-level receivers. The former Temple head coach also was instrumental in Pittsburgh making a run to Super Bowl XLV ”” the proud franchise’s last appearance in the big game.

After leaving Pittsburgh to go back to Indy, the 2012 season may be Arians next-best achievement on his resume. With head coach Chuck Pagano having to step away from the team after four games due to his cancer treatments, Arians nobly stepped in as interim HC, lifting the Colts to a 9-3 record at the helm (11-5 overall) and a berth in the Wild Card round.

Arians was acknowledged as the 2012 Associated Press COY due to his contribution’s in Pagano’s absence.

Just like he did so many years prior for Manning, Arians was a key figure in Luck landing his first Pro Bowl selection and setting several NFL and Colts records for a rookie QB.

Then as head coach with the Cardinals, Arians had a record of at .500 or better in four of his five seasons with the team and won his second Coach of the Year honors there (2014). Arizona had two playoff berths under Arians and in 2016 won its first division title since going back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. The loss to the Carolina Panthers in the 2015 NFC Championship game was only the second conference championship appearance for the team since moving to AZ in 1995, and was just the fourth time in team history that the Cardinals made back-to-back postseason appearances.

BA’s 50 wins in AZ (including the postseason) are the most in franchise history.

Arians’ run in Arizona was notably coupled with the revival of Palmer’s career. The former No. 1 overall pick had a 91.1 passer rating and averaged 279.7 passing yards while working with BA. But the 2015 was Palmer’s finest ”” the Heisman Trophy winner led the league with a 76.4 QBR, had a 104.6 passer rating, 35 TD passes, 11 INTs, and 4,671 passing yards in leading the Cardinals to a 13-3 record.

Once BA got to Tampa, he had another reclamation project with Jameis Winston, and although people will remember that the fellow former Heisman winner threw for a league-high 30 INTs, he also led the league with 5,109 passing yards and 33 TDs. That cleared the way for Brady to come in, as he won his seventh ring with the team in his first year there, before claiming the Bucs’ first divisional title since 2007.

Free Agent QB Jameis Winston led the NFL with 30 interceptions.

He had 21 more interceptions dropped: pic.twitter.com/LEAhrBHljj
— QB Data Mine (@QBDataMine) March 16, 2020

And even with the great Brady under center, Arians took him to heights he’s never been. The GOAT had never had back-to-back 40-TD pass seasons in his career before coming to Tampa and he also set a new career-high for passing yards last season (5,316).

Outside of that, BA also was the oldest HC in NFL history to win the Super Bowl (68). He also has the highest winning percentage in Buccaneers history (.651), nine seasons as an HC/OC where he had top-10 scoring offenses, and another seven with top-10 total offenses.

Now Arians’ regular season winning percentage is tied with Paul Brown for 18th all-time (.624). And his 80 career wins in the regular season are also intriguing, as he’s tied with fellow Super Bowl winners Jimmy Johnson and Brian Billick. But Arians has the nod over both in career winning percentage, as they’re both tied at .556%.

Billick may not get into the Hall due to such a short time working in the NFL, but Johnson did just get inducted in 2020, which was most likely due to his two Super Bowl wins in 1992 and 1993.

Speaking of the postseason, Arians’ postseason record may be another feather in his cap. BA’s .667 playoff winning percentage is tied for 15th all-time for NFL head coaches. That’s a higher figure than a bevy of HOF coaches ”” Hank Stram, Curly Lambeau, Bill Parcells, Marv Levy, Bill Cowher, John Madden, Tom Landry, and Dick Vermeil, to name a few.

Arians is also one of only 12 coaches all-time to be named AP Coach of the Year on multiple occasions, joining Don Shula (4), Chuck Knox and Bill Belichick (3), George Halas, Allie Sherman, Mike Ditka, George Allen, Joe Gibbs, Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, and Ron Rivera (2).

The biggest drawback to BA’s head coaching career would be the length of time. He only had eight seasons as a head coach, which would be on the lower end for an HOF coach. But that should not be the end all be all for Arians. Other Super Bowl era coaches have made it to the Hall after short tenures.

Madden, Johnson, Vince Lombardi, and Bill Walsh all made it in with 10 or fewer seasons as an HC. And although each may have a certain piece of their respective resumes that elevates them above Arians’, BA’s achievements aren’t that far behind.

Three Super Bowl wins in total, two COY awards, and holding respective wins and winning percentage records with two franchises that have losing records all-time in the NFL. When you stack it all up, Arians’ case is stronger than you’d realize.

The Bucs have already announced BA will be inducted into their Ring of Honor this coming season. And that honor could be coming at any moment for the Cards to do the same. So do those add to his already stellar resume? Yes.

But do they make him a sure-fire Hall of Famer? That’s up for debate. All I know is, if I had a vote, I’d have no problem sending Arians on his way to Canton.

The Packers should really keep Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers are rightfully firm on coming out guns blazing with Aaron Rodgers in 2022. It’s also very likely that they make Rodgers the highest-paid player in the league soon. After all, burning man Rodgers has won MVP in 2020 and 2021.

Aaron Rodgers 2020 highlights…

Need I say more? ? pic.twitter.com/4oFBUsUvOV
— Eli Berkovits (@BookOfEli_NFL) November 14, 2020

The Packers are criticized for drafting Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. Love was picked to be the potential heir to A-Rod, but two things seem clear: Love isn’t ready to start in the NFL and the Packers should use resources to improve the situation around Rodgers.

There’s been speculation and rants from cheeseheads with torches that Love should be shipped out of Green Bay. I really don’t believe they should trade their 23-year-old QB.

A lot of fans believe if the Pack trade away Love, they will automatically receive a talented WR2 in return via the draft or in a Love trade itself. This is a magical, silly, thought in every way. If the Packers trade away Love, they would likely garner a Day 3 draft pick for him.

I am convinced that the idea of trading Love with his current value is a terrible idea. Love isn’t only the best backup option in an NFC team that’s pushing to win a Super Bowl in the near future, but he’s still familiar with the system and filled with unique abilities. If they trade Love, they will also need a new potential heir for Love.

Jordan Love throws the first TD of his career…

13-7 Chiefs with three minutes to go

(via @NFL)pic.twitter.com/pJKTd4CDur
— Sports Illustrated (@SInow) November 8, 2021

Rodgers will most likely play a few more seasons for the Packers and he could potentially retire sooner if they win a Super Bowl trophy next season. Love can be groomed to replace Rodgers when the time is ready. Love is only 23 years old, which is the same age as Mac Jones, a year younger than Sam Darnold, and five years younger than Jameis Winston.

The Jameis Winston Saints are 17-0 over the Aaron Rodgers Packers, just like we all thought.pic.twitter.com/GVkq4CrUHq
— Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) September 12, 2021

Let’s not forget that Brett Favre and Peyton Manning were far from superb QBs early in their career. Favre threw a whopping 24 interceptions in his third season in the league. It’s safe to say the Packers can still be patient with Love, who has earned enough trust to still have a chair behind Rodgers in 2022. When Rodgers isn’t in the building anymore, they can certainly have cap space to add ammunition around Love at that point, as well.

By: Reese Nasser

The 2013 season was historic for Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Manning tossed an NFL record 55 passing touchdowns, surpassing Tom Brady’s record of 50 set in 2007 . The record has stood strong since then. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has come the closest as he tied Brady for second place when he threw 50 touchdowns in 2018.

https://twitter.com/Broncos/status/1242515616570814464?s=20

Manning’s historic season is still one of the best ever

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers currently sits at tied for 5th on the touchdown record list. Last season, the veteran QB tossed 48 touchdowns on his way to the MVP award. This touchdown explosion caught many people off guard due to Rodgers only throwing for 26 and 25 in the two seasons prior. With recent speculation that Rodgers may find his way to Denver, much like Manning did near the end of his career, there is curiosity around what he would look like in Denver’s offense. Is there a chance that he could break Manning’s record of 55 touchdowns?

Rodgers in 2020

If Rodgers’ performance in 2020 is any sign of what is to come in 2021, then Manning’s record will at least be at risk. During last season, the 2020 NFL MVP played like a man on a mission, literally putting the entire team on his back at points. The Packers receiving core, outside of Davante Adams, was below average. Adams caught 18 touchdowns and has proven to be Rodgers favorite receiver for some time now.

Aaron Rodgers ??

One of Rodger’s 18 touchdown passes to Adams

Tight end Robert Tanyan was the only other bright spot. Adams and Tonyan accounted for 29 touchdowns. Tonyan managed to haul in eleven touchdowns, with three of those coming in one game.

Robert Tonyan's third TD of the night! #GoPackGo @RobTonJr

?: #ATLvsGB on ESPN
?: NFL app // Yahoo Sports app: https://t.co/DLrzavslwc pic.twitter.com/fmaFJ9t0qt
— NFL (@NFL) October 6, 2020

Tonyan set a career high in touchdown receptions with three against the Falcons

Rodgers 48 passing touchdowns were no easy achievement and took him playing at a level that he hasn’t been at in some time.

Broncos Receiving Core

Aaron Rodgers has shown time and time again that he can make magic happen with nearly anyone on his team. All he needs is one consistent receiver to rely on and he will be alright. The Broncos receiving core is deeper than what Rodgers is currently working with in Green Bay. While there is no star receiver like Davante Adams just yet, the young options on the roster may get to that level one day.

Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy accounted for only three touchdowns and 856 yards in his rookie year but the potential for growth is clear. The former 15th overall pick showed promise, but there were issues with drops that impacted his season.

Ready for year ?? of Jerry Jeudy ? @jerryjeudy @Broncos pic.twitter.com/JGQpfl46GK
— The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) May 16, 2021

The Broncos are expecting a jump in performance in year two

Cortland Sutton has proven to be the #1 option on this roster at receiver. While only appearing in one game this past season due to a torn ACL, Sutton played at a high level in 2019 and was voted to the pro bowl. In his last healthy season, Sutton gained over 1,110 yards receiving and caught six touchdowns.

Courtland Sutton makes Drew Lock's first NFL TD pass one to remember ?

(via @NFL)pic.twitter.com/eFHwcwxOHw
— B/R Gridiron (@brgridiron) December 1, 2019

After tearing his ACL in week 1, Sutton will be looking to bounce back this season.

The Broncos also have second-year receiver KJ Hamler and third-year tight end Noah Fant on the roster. Both caught three touchdown passes each. The depth that the Broncos have is far different than what Rodgers has dealt with in Green Bay. With options like this to throw to, he could be in for another MVP type season.

Chip on His Shoulder

Aaron Rodgers has always played as if he has a chip on his shoulder. This off-season, that chip has apparently gotten bigger. With longtime issues between Rodgers and the Packers apparently reaching a new point, Rodgers will have a point to prove if he is indeed traded. Rodgers has proven time and time again that he belongs in the conversation as one of the best QB’s to ever play the game.

Yet even with his outstanding play, in recent years it has seemed like the Packers don’t want to surround him with weapons. So if he is able to get to a team that has established options, he may want to show the Packers what he could have done if they had given him what he wanted.

While Manning’s record has stood safe for almost a decade, this may be the year that that changes. Rodgers to the Broncos is only speculation at this point and it may never happen, but if it does, that record may just fall. Rodgers is a dangerous man on the football field, and given actual weapons, he will be able to do whatever he wants.
