QBs to trade for and QBs to trade away in fantasy

By: Zack Kurt

There are a lot of QBs that are interesting in terms of value or lack thereof. This article goes out to my Superflex/2 QB managers. You want to have QBs that have job security in dynasty as well as being a good fantasy asset on top of that. I didn’t involve any rookies because all of them have job security for at least 2 years.

#Browns Baker Mayfield had a Kanye theme at his postgame presser today. pic.twitter.com/gjHC0wsR1L
— Camryn Justice (@camijustice) September 26, 2021

Trade For:

I am trading for Sam Darnold, I believe he was the best QB coming out of his class in 2018 and I still believe as a pure passer, he is better than Lamar, Baker, Rosen, and Allen (Allen is right on his tail). He has a great arsenal in CMC, Robby Anderson, Terrace Marshall, D.J. Moore, and has looked great 3 weeks into the season. I am a big believer in his coaching system. An argument against Darnold is that when Joe Brady leaves his production will stop. I think he is free of Adam Gase and doesn’t need an incredible coaching staff plus an incredible arsenal. If he just has one he will succeed go get him before people see his true potential.

Ryan Tannehill is one of the best fantasy QB’s in the game and his first two games were not great. Once Tannehill’s O-line got their legs under them it is the Tannehill of old. Buy the dip he is a top 10 guy for a while and is being sold for the same price as Baker. Tannehill has the best WR tandem in the NFL go get Tannehill even in spite of the AJB injury.

Who would like to get Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson on discount? That is essentially what you get from Jalen Hurts Great rushing floor has a solid and has improved as a passer. Has a great option in Devante Smith plus he has solid potions in Dallas Goedert, Jalen Reagor, and Kenneth Gainwell. He has always been a solid passer and improved during the offseason. He is an absolute value at the position even though people continue to sleep on him.

An absolute DIME from Jared Goff for the TD ?

(via @NFLBrasil)pic.twitter.com/LUc2kbf3yc
— ESPN (@espn) September 21, 2021

Trade Away:

The Giants are 0-3 and Daniel Jones has a very bleak future. He has a decent fantasy floor for this year but he is one of the more likely young QB’s that may not have a starting job next year. He has not been able to lead the Giants to very many wins and that is something you want from your QB. He is not strong mechanically, makes lots of poor decisions. The New York Giants have 2 1st round picks next year and I would be shocked if they didn’t try to invest in a QB.

Baker Mayfield is a competent QB but that is about it. He is not a good fantasy asset but he has a secure job. He is a low-end QB2 that has little to no upside. He is one of the safest options at QB but if you want to win a championship he is not the guy. I’d rather have Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, Sam Darnold.

Garbage time Goff is someone who is actually going to be a solid asset for fantasy. However, he is the opposite has a high upside but could lose his job tomorrow. His wr core is not very good and Detroit is in a full rebuild. He has had a nice start to the season because of garbage time. I expect that to continue and on a week-to-week basis I would rather have Goff but his job security is a serious concern. Sell him on his numbers to a competitor this year.

There are a lot of QB’s that I am on the fence on because of the job security and fantasy relevance. These are some of the guys that are trending in the right direction in Darnold, Hurts, and Tannehill however I am moving on from Baker, Daniel Jones, and Jared Goff. Everyone values these different QB’s differently don’t be afraid to send trades because dynasty never rests!

.

Trade away these QBs now

By: Jake Rajala

Week 3 in the National Football League is officially in the books. As a sixth of the season is finished, NFL teams and players are starting to show their true colors. It’s crucial that fantasy football addicts really digest the early season actions that have taken place and take the necessary steps to jolt their winning chances. With that being said, I’m going to assist your team’s fantasy roster by outlining analysis and feedback on the vital quarterback position upon the eclipse of Week 3.

Let’s begin.

Another week, another @JoeyB to @Real10jayy__ deep TD! #RuleTheJungle

?: #CINvsPIT on CBS
?: NFL app pic.twitter.com/fUHZ1gXe0f
— NFL (@NFL) September 26, 2021

Joe Burrow

The connection between Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase is truly poetry. Although, Chase can’t solely help Burrow “take care of the football” or prevent the fact that the Bengals have the seventh most challenging schedule this season.

There is a lot of overhyping surrounding the Bengals 2-1 record and highlight reels of Burrow to Chase this early season. Burrow has thrown under 207 yards in each of the past two weeks and he’s thrown four interceptions in three games thus far. I believe the Bengals defense will force Burrow to play catch up in countless, challenging situations this season and more errors for Burrow will follow.

The Bengals OL that wasn’t addressed this offseason that well is still a shaky unit and it’s more than believable that Burrow could miss game time at some point for the second season in a row.

It was bound to happen: Matthew Stafford with a 75-yard BOMB to DeSean Jackson.pic.twitter.com/dX3fdPj9Fv
— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) September 26, 2021

Matthew Stafford

I believe two things following the Los Angeles Rams demolishing victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For 1. I believe the Rams victory will unveil to be one of the peak moments for Matthew Stafford this year and 2. Matthew Stafford is NOT an MVP candidate and he won’t routinely blow defenses out of the building in Sean McVay’s offense.

I believe it’s a positive sign that Stafford hooked up with speedy, often injured Desean Jackson and unleashed four passing touchdowns against the Buccaneers in the matchup of the week. However, the Buccaneers pass defense is clearly not the same unit that it was in the playoffs last season. Buccaneers got poured on by Dak Prescott in Week 1, then allowed 25 points to the awful Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, and continued to bleed against the Rams in Week 3.

Stafford was the 13th best QB by Fantasy Pros going into Week 3. He now has seen a favorable boost in the rankings — sliding up to be the ninth-best QB. I believe he will be a QB out of the Top 12 throughout most of the season. I believe it’s best to take advantage of his monster performance against TB NOW.

Sam Darnold is cooking early ?

(via @NFLBrasil)pic.twitter.com/LceTnDvsmK
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) September 19, 2021

Sam Darnold

There’s a strong case to be made that Sam Darnold is the worst QB on the best team in the league. Unfortunately, things are about to be worse for Darnold. The Panthers notable RB and fantastic all-purpose weapon Christian McCaffrey is going to miss the next three games in the season.

Sam Darnold has not only been below average this season, but Darnold has faced poor competition in all three matchups. The Panthers QB only tossed 279 passing yards and one touchdown against the Jets in Week 1. In his second regular-season performance, Darnold faced a Saints defense missing several starters and a team that missed several coaches. Yet, Darnold unveiled a modest 305 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception against a very depleted Saints team. In Darnold’s last showcase, he hardly mustered out 304 passing yards tally, 0 passing touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.

It may seem like there is little to get from Darnold in return, but I don’t believe his ceiling will get noticeably higher, and his offense could seriously struggle in the next few weeks without CMAC. If you can get anything out of Darnold right now, pull the trigger.

Trade away Carson Wentz

Intro

Yes! the 2021 NFL season is a week in the books. However, dynasty football is a year-round marathon. There’s so much work that goes into watching games, analyzing the tape, studying tendencies, etc. to draft players in dynasty leagues that will help build your squad over the long run.

Much like the NFL hitching your wagon to the right QB will do wonders for your team and allow you to build from the ground up. Today we’ll discuss a couple of QBs that you want to trade away on your dynasty teams. These are players that I’m projecting to not be in ideal spots for the long haul thus will not pay dividends in dynasty leagues. Let’s get started!

Carson Wentz somehow managed to fumble on a QB sneak in which he wasn't tackled. That's impressive.
— Dugar, Michael-Shawn (@MikeDugar) September 12, 2021

Quarterbacks

Carson Wentz – Now, I expect Wentz to have an okay season and he will probably start every game. He has one of the best offensive lines in front of him and improved talent around him from a year ago. However, since we are talking dynasty QBs, Wentz isn’t an option long term.

It’s not that Wentz doesn’t produce solid numbers, however, he isn’t that oomph he had before his ACL and LCL tear in his left knee in 2017. Wentz also doesn’t provide the rushing upside as most of these younger QBs have. He is limited to being a pocket QB with limited mobile upside. With a shift in the league with how GMs are drafting QBs it makes the most sense to trade away Wentz, get decent draft capital back for him and trade for younger rookie QBs or wait til the 2022 NFL to draft a replacement.

Wentz may really not be the best short-term QB as “some” may have foreseen. Wentz was slightly a game manager against an okay Seattle defense from a year ago. If Wentz doesn’t play above average this year, it should be expected that he won’t have strong job security with his contract — not to mention the roster built for a QB to win now.

Daniel Jones when it's time to fumble. pic.twitter.com/W1djB6rknW
— Kevin Clark (@bykevinclark) September 12, 2021

Daniel Jones – This is a make-or-break year for Jones. He has enough offensive talent around him along with Saquon Barkley returning. There is no excuse for Jones not to step up and deliver. However, the question is will he?? Simple answer is, no!

Jones is behind an awful offensive line. This is a huge concern and has been for a while now. I just don’t see Jones getting rid of the fumble/turnover issues that have plagued him for his first two seasons in the NFL. At this point, it might be time to cut bait and start over. There are so many talented rookie QBs this season that much greater talent around them and opportunity that Jones isn’t worth holding onto any longer.

In Week 1, Jones showed his lack of explosion as he just had 267 yards and a single touchdown. Jones has weapons galore and he’s young, so take that to your advantage in selling him now!

Jalen Hurts – Staying in the NFC East, Hurts is another QB that you need to trade away. He has tremendous upside in fantasy with his rushing ability and had a great last season last year but Hurts isn’t the long-term answer in dynasty leagues. I really don’t see much talent arm-wise.

Hurts actually played quite well last week. I don’t expect him to maintain a high quality of play or the HC-QB combo to have a fruitful career in the city of brotherly love. Although, there are A LOT of die hard Hurts fans and they sincerely bought into the hype he gathered from lots of analysts this offseason. Now after a solid Week 1 showcase against the atrocious Falcons pass defense, I would ship him off your roster.

Conclusion

As mentioned above in the intro, it takes time to scout good talent, especially in the quarterback position. However, if you are holding onto QBs like the ones above just because of one or two decent seasons then you aren’t planning correctly for the future of your dynasty squad. A huge part of the dynasty is to know when to cut bait, take your losses and move on. Sure, this can be time-consuming and a bit annoying but hey, it’s just fantasy! Have fun and enjoy being a GM!
