The NFL has showcased countless talented cornerbacks with an alpha-like attitude in its existence. Over the past decade, CBs like Darrelle Revis (also known as Revis Island), Charles Woodson, and Champ Bailey have caused a plethora of agony against opposing offenses. With that said, where do these CBs rank amid the best of the best? Well, I’m going to untwine the 10 best cornerbacks of all time.

1. Deion Sanders

Deion Sanders, also known as “Prime Time”, talked the talk and walked the walk. As soon as Sanders entered the league, he began to make life hell for opposing QBs. He garnered five interceptions as a rook and it was clear that he was extremely gifted.

Sanders garnered first-team All-Pro in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, and even in 1998. He unleashed a career-high 7 interceptions in 1993. In ’94, he ousted a personal best three pick-sixes.

*Let’s not forget that he was also a talented Kick Returner. In his 1992 campaign, he had two KR touchdowns.

Deion Sanders • Must Be The Money pic.twitter.com/I63YgOUt7D
— Gifted ???

2. Charles Woodson

The Green Bay Packers legendary profile Charles Woodson impressively won DPOY from the CB spot in the 2009 campaign (which featured him hauling in nine interceptions, three pick-sixes, nine tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles). Woodson also had two other AP seasons from his CB position (which arrived in 1999 and 2011). He also made eight Pro Bowls as a shut-down CB. Of course, he switched to play from the safety spot between 2012 and 2015.

?Charles Woodson INT compilation?#RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/AWOtn8ANho
— Raiders Reels (@RaidersReels) August 26, 2022

3. Darrelle Revis

The mythical CB Darrelle Revis was the best CB at erasing an opposing WR1 for a long time. Revis Island was a four-time first-team All-Pro & he also made seven Pro Bowls. He had four seasons of 4+ interceptions. Rex Ryan’s favorite player in the Big Apple made seven Pro Bowls in his career, as well. Revis nicely obtained a SB ring with Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the Pats in 2014. So, is Sauce Gardner the second coming of Revis?

4. Rod Woodson

The freak defensive back Rod Woodson was a god from the CB spot and an elite presence from the safety spot. The former Steelers and Raiders DB unveiled five first-team All-Pro nods as a CB. Furthermore, he won DPOY in 1993 (as he obtained 8 ints, two sacks, and 2 FFs) and took home second place in DPOY in 1994. In case you were wondering, Rod is not related to Charles.

5. Mel Blount

Mel Blount was undoubtedly a greek god-like CB for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s and 1980s. Blount unleashed 11 interceptions, a first-team All-Pro nod, and extremely proudly: DPOY in 1975. The five-time Pro Bowler garnered 57 ints in his career.

On this day 50 years ago, the Steelers drafted Mel Blount in the third round at 53rd overall in the 1970 NFL Draft. #Steelers pic.twitter.com/4rtnbbPVJr
— Blitzburgh (@Blitz_Burgh) January 27, 2020

6. Champ Bailey

Champ Bailey was a She-Hulk-like cornerback in his NFL journey — especially for the Denver Broncos. Bailey cracked three first-team All-Pro nods & made eight Pro Bowls in Denver. In 2006 — he ousted 10 ints, 86 combined tackles, and placed second in DPOY voting. The Champ secured 52 interceptions in his NFL journey. Sadly, Bailey never won a Super Bowl ring.

7. Mike Haynes

Mike Haynes won DROY (while making second-team AP) and he then made AP2 in the next four seasons, too. In 1982, he made second-team AP. His rampage continued – as he garnered first team AP honors in 1984 and in 1985. He’s also made a whopping eight Pro Bowls! He’s recorded six seasons of at least 4 interceptions.

Two Silver and Black legends back together.

Cornerbacks Mike Haynes and Lester Hayes visited HQ to reflect on their legacy in a Raiders uniform. pic.twitter.com/PXh5LHpMES
— Las Vegas Raiders (@Raiders) June 16, 2022

8. Night Train Lane

In the early days of Gensis, Night Train Lane was an unstoppable force. All jokes aside, Dick “Night Train” Lane unleashed 14 interceptions in his rookie season. Yes, you read that correctly. In his junior season, he obtained 10 interceptions! He made three first-team All-Pro nods & three second-team All-Pro nods. He had seven seasons of 5+ interceptions.

Dick “Night Train” Lane
Was out there committing assaults pic.twitter.com/RiPsQElr7j
— Gifted ???

9. Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman was the star of the Legion of Boom & he was quite the monster. Sherman was a three-time first-team All-Pro in three of his first four seasons. He ousted 8 ints in his second and third season. Furthermore, he cracked five Pro Bowl nods in his NFL life. He also was a world champion – as he won Super Bowl XLVIII. Despite a recent off-field issue, it’s clear that he’s a very passionate and kind individual. Amazon Prime has taken a notice in his personality – as he will work with Tony Gonzalez on their pre-game, half-time, and post-game show on Thursday nights.

10. Aeneas Williams

It would be an understatement to say Aeneas Williams deserved to be cast into Canton in 2014. Williams was a three-time first-team All-Pro & he made eight Pro Bowls. He had five seasons of at least six interceptions. He also had three seasons of two pick sixes. Before Patrick Peterson mopped the floor against opposing signal-callers, Williams was a QB’s worst nightmare in AZ.

The NFL has had countless decorated safeties in its existence. There have been superb ball-hawks, extremely hard-hitting (and fun to watch) safeties, and overly impressive all-around safeties. With that enunciated, I’m going to untwine the 10 best safeties of all time.

Ed Reed was different https://t.co/0oiQC2h8e2
— Footballism (@FootbaIIism) March 27, 2021

1. Ed Reed

The long-time Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed didn’t have sexy dance moves, but he was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. Reed was a five-time first-team All-Pro & he made nine Pro Bowls with the Ravens. Furthermore, the player that kept Bill Belichick and Tom Brady up late at night won DPOY in 2004. Most importantly, he won Super Bowl XLVII. He finished his career with 64 interceptions (including seven pick-sixes), 139 pass deflections, and 646 combined tackles.

Reed was a part of an unnaturally talented defense (which also showcased Ray Lewis, Haloti Ngata, and Terrell Suggs), to say the least.

2. Ronnie Lott

The San Francisco 49ers legendary defensive back Ronnie Lott started his career off as a dominant cornerback and then transcended into a Hall of Fame-caliber safety. Lott registered five first-team All-Pro nods and made six Pro Bowls as a 49ers safety. He had an incredible ten interceptions in 1986. In 1988, he had a whopping eight interceptions!

3. Emlen Tunnell

Emlen Tunnell may have fought a long time ago in a Galaxy far far away. Nonetheless, Tunnell was still a Greek god-like safety. He made eight straight Pro Bowls from 1950 to 1957. He also was a four-time first-team All-Pro safety. He had 10 seasons of at least six interceptions. Yes, you read that correctly. He also proudly won two NFL Championships.

4.Troy Polamalu

The man in the head and shoulders commercial, Troy Polamalu, garnered four first-team All-Pro nods. Let’s not forget that he won DPOY in 2004. In addition to having 32 career interceptions, he had 56 tackles for loss, 14 forced fumbles, and 12 QB hits.

Troy Polamalu made plays that defied belief! ?

The @steelers legend turns 41 today! ? pic.twitter.com/UvdOzIXGxU
— NFL UK (@NFLUK) April 19, 2022

5. Paul Krause

Paul Krause started to breathe fire in 1964 – when he unleashed 12 interceptions as a rookie (which led him to garner first-team All-Pro honors). In his career, he unveiled nine seasons of at least five ints! He also had a monster 1975 campaign – as he obtained 10 ints.

6. Rodney Harrison

The legendary New England Patriot Rodney Harrison was extremely well-rounded and a flat-out winner. As the Twin Spires Edge noted, he was the first player to oust 30 sacks and 30 ints in his playing career. He was named first-team All-Pro twice & he was named first-team All-Pro once. Of course, Harrison also won two Super Bowl rings with the Pats.

7. Ken Houston

The Houston Oilers legendary safety Ken Houston has the record for the most consecutive number of Pro Bowls (12) by a safety. He also recorded five defensive touchdowns in a single season (1971) — which is also an NFL record. In 1971, he also ousted a freakish nine interceptions.

8. Larry Wilson

Larry Wilson is another old-school freak of nature. Wilson was a five-time first-team All-Pro for the St. Louis Cardinals, while also making eight Pro Bowls. In 1966 – he garnered 10 ints (including two pick-sixes). Before Patrick Peterson terrorized opposing QBs – Wilson was a curse to opposing signal-callers.

March 24, 1938

Larry Wilson was born in Rigby, Idaho. pic.twitter.com/rncs47b00K
— Arizona Cardinals (@AZCardinals) March 24, 2021

9. Brian Dawkins

Brian Dawkins, also known as Weapon X, garnered eight pro bowl selections and was named first-team All-Pro four times in his career. He finished his football life with 37 interceptions, 153 pass deflections, 26 sacks, 1,147 total tackles, and 59 tackles for loss.

10. Rod Woodson

The ultra ball-hawk Rod Woodson was named first-team All-Pro a whopping six times. Furthermore, he made 11 Pro Bowls! He had six seasons of 5+ interceptions & three seasons of 7+ ints. He took home DPOY honors in 1993, as well.
