What is the dynasty outlook with Christian McCaffrey?
By Stephen Brownholtz (@sbrownholtz1)
Christian McCaffrey is likely the most polarizing player in dynasty leagues right now. In the 2019 season, McCaffrey had one of the most dominant fantasy seasons of all time! McCaffrey finished that season with 2,392 total yards from scrimmage and 19 total touchdowns! In the two seasons since then, McCaffrey has only played in 10 games. Injuries are a major concern for McCaffrey going into the 2022 season, but if he is able to stay on the field, McCaffrey could easily finish as the league’s top fantasy scorer. Knowing that McCaffrey has a big injury risk, but could carry your squad, what should you do with him?
Why you should SELL Christian McCaffrey:
If you trade away Christian McCaffrey now you most likely will not be getting peak value in return, but you will still get a solid haul. After two straight injury-riddled seasons, McCaffrey is not getting any younger. At the start of the 2022 season, McCaffrey will be 26 years old. While 26 years old is the prime for most NFL running backs, McCaffrey could very well have already passed his prime. McCaffrey could be one more injury away from his value plummeting further. If your team is a contender, hold onto McCaffrey because he could lead your team to the promised land. If you are a rebuilding team, I would sell the star running back. If I were trading McCaffrey, I would try a few of these offers. (PPR, 1QB)
- Christian McCaffrey RB for Mark Andrews TE
- Christian McCaffrey RB for Jaylen Waddle WR
- Christian McCaffrey RB for Michael Pittman WR, 2022 2nd rounder
Why you should BUY Christian McCaffrey:
Trading for the injury-prone running back is a high-risk, high-reward situation. Christian McCaffrey could easily finish as the top-scoring player in fantasy next season. Trading for McCaffrey would be a huge boost to any team’s lineup. Assuming McCaffrey is healthy for next season, he would be in line to receive a large workload. With a stale passing game last season, McCaffrey might lead the team in receptions just to keep the chains moving. McCaffrey is an elite talent and will put up strong fantasy numbers regardless of his offensive situation. Trading for McCaffrey could put a contending team over the top. If I were a contending team, I would try some of these trades to try and acquire the Panther’s running back. (PPR 1QB)
- Clyde Edwards-Helaire RB, Gabriel Davis WR, 2023 2nd rounder for Christian McCaffrey RB
- Marquise Brown WR, Late 2022 1st rounder for Christian McCaffrey RB
- Saquon Barkley RB, 2023 2nd rounder for Christian McCaffrey RB
Final Verdict:
So you have weighed your options with what to do with Christian McCaffrey, now you have to decide what you would like to do with the fantasy star. I would say the safest option would be to trade McCaffrey for a high price. If McCaffrey comes back healthy next season and plays up to his potential and finishes as one of the top fantasy running backs, you just accept it and move on and be happy you got something of value for him.
