Cool facts about Sean McVay
By: Jake Rajala
The Los Angeles Rams have a madman with swagger as head coach — known as Sean McVay. The Rams HC that is only six years older than Selena Gomez has new-found confidence after winning his first Super Bowl ring last season. McVay also brought back Aaron Donald on a deal that made him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, the future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner, and the illustrious WR Allen Robinson to help him obtain another Super Bowl ring. With that said, I’m going to take a unique angle at the magic of McVay & untwine several fascinating facts about him.
- McVay is married to Veronika Khomyn (who also has a corky last name)
The Rams HC is married to Veronika Khomyn. She is a model that was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Furthermore, she studied at George Mason University. Sean and Veronika tied the knot this past June, as well.
- McVay was a god in high school at the QB position
As widely enunciated, McVay was a bit of a magic man at the QB spot as a high school football player. The Rams HC even beat out Calvin Johnson to win Georgia High School Player of The Year. McVay accumulated 2,600 rushing yards, 40 rushing touchdowns, 2,500 passing yards, and 18 passing TDs.
- He has a career record of 55-26
It wouldn’t be an understatement to say McVay has found success at the NFL level. He hasn’t posted a losing record in a season & he holds a career record of 55-26 (.679 winning percentage). His winning percentage is a hair above Bill Belichick’s winning percentage in the league (.670). Will McVay be able to sustain his success over a much longer period of time?
- McVay is an ESFP personality type
It may not be a shock to hear that McVay has a unique personality type (ESFP). ESFP stands for extroverted, sensory, feeling, and perceiving. ESFPs make up 9% of the population. Famous ESFPs include Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Serena Williams, and Leonardo Dicaprio.
- McVay studied health and sports studies
McVay clearly had a passion for sports and athletes in college. He studied health and sports studies at the University of Miami. He used his degree to gain a job as a coach as a coaching assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008.
- His grandfather was an NFL head coach
It’s clear that football lies in the McVay blood. Tim McVay, who is the great, great, great (peep the Holes reference) grandfather to Sean McVay, was a head coach at the University of Dayton and eventually a head coach for the New York Giants. In addition, he was a legendary GM for the juggernaut San Francisco 49ers squad in the 1980s and 1990s.
- Sean McVay tree
It was seen around the league that McVay’s assistants were touched by the hand of angels. Matt LaFleur, Brandon Staley, and Zac Taylor were all brought on to be head coaches in the NFL. LaFleur has a career record of 41-13, Staley has a 9-8 record, and Taylor is coming off an AFC Championship win (although, he holds a record of 19-33-1).
