Welcome to our new feature where we recap a particular player’s journey in the 2022-2023 NFL Fantasy Football Season. This article features preseason expectations, draft expectations, overall season production, and critical moments during the season. We will do this for all 32 teams as we highlight a player per team.
PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS
Travis Kelce is one of the most sure-fire players in fantasy football. Since 2016, Travis Kelce has ranked #1 in PPR formats in six of the seven years with one #2 rank in 2021. In a position that is very shallow, Travis Kelce trumps all with the pass-catching ability of an elite WR.
DRAFT EXPECTATIONS
Expectations were high on Kelce as he is the first TE off the board. In drafts, a good number had him in the 1st round with some drafts having him taken early in the 2nd round. Owners drafting Kelce, get a reliable pass-catcher at a premium position.
OVERALL SEASON PRODUCTION
Travis Kelce did not let his owners down with another superb season for Kansas City. For the first twelve weeks of the season, he was at least a TE 4. This consistency is unmatched by everyone. He did end the year a little slow with a TE 15 and TE 12 finish. At the end of the year, he was the #1 TE again and the #12 overall player. In a PPR format, he averaged 18.61 FP.
CRITICAL MOMENTS DURING THE SEASON
Week 5 vs Las Vegas Raiders
In one of the weirder games of the year, Travis Kelce scored 33.50 FP on just 25 yards. Now, how does this happen? All you have to do is catch the ball seven times with FOUR TDs. In an intense game against the Raiders, Patrick Mahomes targeted Kelce often in the red zone. This was successful as Kelce caught all the TDs for a Chiefs’ win over Las Vegas.
Week 11 vs Los Angeles Chargers
There is something about a divisional matchup with the Chargers that brings out the best in Kelce. Last season, he had a memorable performance late in the year with 10 catches for 191 yards and two TDs. He saved his best for the Week 11 matchup. He scored 35.50 FP on six catches, 115 yards, and three TDs. It feels like a Travis Kelce masterclass is expected every time he plays them.
Week 13 vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals have had the number of the Kansas City Chiefs for the past few matchups. In this matchup, it more or less was the same. This week was the worst fantasy performance of Travis Kelce for the year where he scored just 6.60 FP. He only had four catches for 56 yards and a lost fumble.
