NFL Sunday is just a day away and we have some great games on tap. Before you settle in on your couch let’s preview some of the biggest matchups of the NFL week 2 slate.

Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1 PM EST on CBS)

The best game of the NFL week 2 schedule is when the Chiefs go on the road to take on the Jaguars. It was a disappointing opening game for Kansas City as they struggled against the Detroit Lions at home.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes put up rather pedestrian numbers in week 1 but he was without Travis Kelce. Kelce and stud defensive tackle Chris Jones are set to return for the Chiefs in this one. Jones will be needed to help stop the rushing attack of Jacksonville led by Travis Etienne Jr. and rookie Tank Bigsby. Etienne and Bigsby each found the end zone in week 1 against the Colts.

On the outside, Calvin Ridley made a splash in his debut for the Jaguars. Ridley did not look rusty after his 1 year suspension as he hauled in 8 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Ridley will be a challenge for the Chiefs secondary all game long.

Baltimore Ravens (+3) @ Cincinnati Bengals (1 PM EST on CBS)

Cincinnati would very much like to burn the tape of their week 1 performance against the rival Browns. Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense could never find a rhythm as he was held to under 100 yards passing. It was the first time in his career that Burrow was held under the 100-yard passing mark. Burrow will look to get back on track versus the rival Ravens at home.

Embed from Getty Images

Meanwhile, the Ravens are coming off a dominating performance against the Houston Texans. Baltimore may have found its next star in rookie Zay Flowers. Flowers looked electric in his debut as he had 87 yards from scrimmage in week 1 including 9 receptions. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens will be without J.K. Dobbins who is now out for the season. Expect another classic AFC North battle in this one.

Seattle Seahawks (+4.5) @ Detroit Lions (1 PM EST on FOX)

Jared Goff and the Lions looked like an NFC contender in their week 1 win at Kansas City. Their defense which struggled all last season looked completely different in the opener. If they can get this type of performance consistently from their defense the Lions will be a threat come playoff time.

Seattle on the other hand looked lackluster as they were beat at home in week 1 by the Rams. Geno Smith who was the Comeback Player of the Year in 2022 struggled with a Rams defense that lacks playmakers. It was troubling to see for a Seahawks team that was set to take the next step this year. Look for this one to be another high-scoring affair. The Seahawks won 48-45 when the two teams met last season.

San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) @ Los Angeles Rams (4:05 PM EST on FOX)

Before the season started this looked to be an easy win for the 49ers. Now they may have more of a battle on their hands when they visit LA. This game will be a classic example of whether week 1 was a fluke or not. If the Rams keep it close many will start to give them respect. The problem is they will be dealing with the elite 49ers defense who will put pressure on Matthew Stafford all day long.

Rams rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua was the story of week 1 as he seemingly came out of nowhere. The Rams will need a repeat performance from Nacua who hauled in 10 receptions for 119 yards in his debut.

Washington Commanders (+3.5) @ Denver Broncos (4:25 PM EST on CBS)

Washington is looking to start 2-0 when they travel to the Mile High City on Sunday afternoon. The Commanders looked a bit shaky in their week 1 win against the Cardinals. Washington’s defense was dominant but the offense struggled at times. Quarterback Sam Howell had two costly turnovers but showed poised in leading Washington to a come-from-behind victory. Howell will need to be mistake-free on the road in Denver for Washington to have a chance.

The Broncos will be getting one of their best weapons back in Jerry Jeudy on Sunday. This is exactly what Russell Wilson and this offense needed as they look to bounce back from their week 1 loss. Wilson did have 2 touchdowns in the opener but the offense lacked explosiveness. They will need big plays to be able to beat the stingy Washington defense.

What is Travis Etienne’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023 and Beyond?

After missing all of his rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury, Travis Etienne was poised to break out in his second year. The former Clemson Tiger had a familiar face at quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson was now running the offense. When the dust settled, Travis Etienne finished the fantasy year as RB17 (Half PPR) and totaled 187.6 FP. It wasn’t a down year by any means yet we all expected more from Etienne. Before we look ahead at Etienne’s fantasy outlook let’s first recap his 2022-2023 season.

2022

Travis Etienne started his 2022 campaign slowly. It wasn’t that big of a surprise since the RB was coming back from a pretty serious injury. He finished with single-digit fantasy points during his first 4 games. Etienne started to pick up momentum during the week 5 matchup against the Houston Texans. Etienne finished the day with 71 yards on the ground and an additional 43 yards receiving. After this game he started a streak of 4 straight double-digit fantasy point games including 3 top 10 finishes. This was the type of production fantasy owners were banking on.

After the bye week Etienne’s production slowed once again and this is the type of inconsistency that we don’t want to see in a top-tier running back. Thankfully Travis Etienne woke up again in his second matchup with the Texans. He used his vision to hit the hole, break the tackle and burst to the end zone for a 62-yard touchdown.

TRAVIS EATIN ? @swaggy_t1

?: #JAXvsHOU on CBS
?: Stream on NFL+ https://t.co/MP9EUziAkY pic.twitter.com/FKEmdtJLaN
— NFL (@NFL) January 1, 2023

2023

As we start to project Travis Etienne’s value in 2023 and beyond it’s important to look at some key statistics. One of those is red zone stats among running backs. Etienne finished 30th in this metric behind the likes of Samaje Perine and Devin Singletary. The chances were there for Etienne as he had 59.4% of attempts in the red zone, he just couldn’t convert those into more points.

The Jacksonville Jaguars also drafted Tank Bigsby in the 3rd round of the 2023 NFL Draft. One could envision that the Jaguars are going to use him in the red zone given the stats I pointed out above. If that happens, Etienne’s value will take a hit.

Travis Etienne’s Fantasy Outlook

Travis Etienne is certainly a hot topic going into the upcoming season. He could be a league winner or he could end up costing you a chance at the playoffs. There seems to be no middle ground here. Currently, I have him slated at #21 overall in my 2023 top 100 fantasy rankings and I may drop him down some more. The inconsistency has me more worried about his overall value going forward.

Let’s take a quick look at where Etienne stands today in terms of ADP and FantasyPros ECR.

As you can see his ADP has stayed steady at 25 but his ECR is starting to drop. This goes to show that others are also second guessing his value going forward. I wouldn’t be surprised if his ECR continues to drop into the 20 range. As we move into training camp and the NFL preseason I will be keeping an eye on how Tank Bigsby is utilized. It will certainly have an impact on Etienne’s overall value. At this point, I have Travis Etienne on the tier 3 range of running backs for the 2023-2024 season.

His last three games have amounted to 89 total rushing yards and he hasn’t been the same ever since the bye. The Jags were lucky as they had Trevor Lawrence playing really well on the passing game. The conditions of the game were ugly as the elements limited the Bills to just 130 passing yards. Look for Buffalo to bounce back against Miami in Week 15.

With Lamar Jackson possibly being out for a bit, it will be difficult to gauge Mark Andrews’ performance going forward.

DEF/ST Fraud Of The Week: Tennessee Titans -4 FP

35+ Points Allowed (Projected: 9.08 FP)

The Tennessee Titans defense had no answer for Trevor Lawrence. Trevor threw for 368 yards and the offense scored 36 points in a win that keeps them in the hunt for the playoffs. The Titans were a big disappointment in this upset loss.

Week 14 in the 2022 NFL season is in the books and the playoff race is sweltering up as teams charge towards an eventful winter. For some teams, however, their postseason aspirations are dwindling quickly. One of those teams is the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars exit this week, 5-8, second in the AFC South behind the 7-6 Titans, after a dominant 36-22 win against Tennessee on the road. Up till Sunday, the Jaguars had gone eight straight years without winning in Nashville against their bitter AFC South rivals. This win gives the Jaguars a much needed motivational boost to end the season strong. The Jaguars can’t afford anymore losses for the rest of the season, as their playoff hopes are contingent on if they can win their division more than trying to acquire a wild card spot in the very competitive AFC. How are the Jaguars going to win their last four games? They’re going to need big games from quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne.

29 days
December 28, 2019: In what was undoubtedly one of the best games in school history, Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne led a Clemson rally to overcome a 16-0 deficit, as the Tigers took down #2 Ohio State in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl Playoff Semifinal, 29-23. pic.twitter.com/Gff0H4ikMG
— Austin Pendergist (@apthirteen) August 7, 2021

Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne are not new to being teammates. In fact, they played together at Clemson and were both drafted by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft. While Trevor was an instant starter, Travis was trying to figure out his role. With a running room led by James Robinson, the undrafted rookie sensation who had over 1,000 rushing yards, Etienne had to be the backup. Head Coach Urban Myer, if you can even call him a coach, worked out Etienne as more of a wide receiver than the running back position that he was drafted for to maximize the productivity of both backs. Even though Etienne was a versatile player coming out of college, only 8 of his 78 touchdowns in his collegiate career came through the air. That is not necessarily enough to want to play him more in the receiver position, but it isn’t uncommon for Urban Meyer to have to have made some questionable decisions in his short lived and disappointing NFL coaching career (i.e. Tim Tebow). Unfortunately, Etienne went down with a season-ending injury in the preseason, so we did not get to see anything from him until the 2022 season.

ETN SZNNNN#JAXvsIND on CBS pic.twitter.com/sdGxkzPp3M
— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) October 16, 2022

When Etienne finally got the chance to show his playmaking ability, he didn’t disappoint. Through 13 games, he has ran for 814 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5 yards a rush. He is also a receiving threat as he has 25 catches for 214 yards for a total of 1,028 total scrimmage yards so far this season. His productivity this season eventually led to the trading of James Robinson as the Jaguars feel that Etienne is the future and ready to lead the rushing offense. While he has shown that he can be a dependable back running and catching the ball, he has also shown that he is dependable losing the ball as well, with him fumbling the ball four times this season. Ball security is going to have to be an emphasis for Etienne moving forward for him to elevate his game.

Simply Marvelous#BALvsJAX on CBS pic.twitter.com/OpZk3Oqg6u
— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) November 27, 2022

While Travis sat on the sidelines for the 2021 season, Trevor was thrown into the dumpster fire that was the 2021 Jacksonville Jaguars. After the Jaguars traded fan favorite and social media sensation quarterback Gardner Minshew away at the end of preseason, Trevor was given the full reins to the Jaguars offense. After an abysmal 1-15 2020 season, Trevor was put in the (very easy) position of getting the Jaguars more than one win. Even though Trevor managed to accomplish this goal, he was only able to win 3 games. The 3-14 record led to the team drafting first overall for the second time in a row, which turned into Travon Walker out of Georgia. Lawrence finished the 2021 season with 3641 yards passing, 12 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. Some sports talk pundits and fans were skeptical that Lawrence was the generational talent that many claimed him to be, with some even calling him a bust. But in 2022, he has shown the league that he is here and his time is now.

The throw… the catch… @eazyengram | @Trevorlawrencee#ProBowlVote | #JAXvsTEN on CBS/NFL+ pic.twitter.com/8BHtMIVOxH
— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) December 11, 2022

Through 13 games in the 2022, Trevor Lawrence has shown the skills that made him the number one overall pick. He has already passed for 3,202 yards with 20 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He is on pace to eclipse his 2021 stats by a considerable margin with him already having more touchdowns this season and almost matching his passing yards with four games left to go. While he has shown that he is capable of being the quarterback of the future for the Jaguars, he has also shown that he is still a young quarterback who is prone to make questionable decisions. Three of his interceptions this season have occurred in the red zone and most of them inevitably led to the Jaguars to lose those games. Once Lawrence lessens the impact of his interceptions, those close losses will become close wins.

The 5-8 record does not tell the real story of the 2022 Jacksonville Jaguars. Besides the blowout loss to the Lions in Week 13, the Jaguars have been in every game and played for all four quarters, never looking defeated. This team has a high upside and are still in the 2022 NFL playoff hunt, sitting at 10th in AFC standings. If the Jaguars are able to win out, the Jaguars could be in the playoffs for the first time since 2017. In order to win out though, the Jaguars would have to upset the Cowboys, beat the Jets in primetime, and beating the Titans twice in a season, something the Jaguars haven’t done since 2005. The Jaguars would probably not make it out of Super Wild Card weekend if they were to make it, but the fact that this team, after going 3-14 last season, could even be in the conversation of playoffs is a feat in itself. Doug Pederson has taken this team from the depths of football hell and brought them into the light, allowing them to shine. If Pederson can get more from his team next year, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be a solid playoff contender, with the lethal duo of Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne leading the offense.

The Jaguars defense could turn heads in 2022

By: Jake Rajala

The Jacksonville Jaguars nicely brought in a few unique profiles for their defense this off-season. It would be an understatement to say the Jaguars needed to improve a few areas on their defense. In particular, the Jags pass rush was below mediocre last season — as the Jags had 32 sacks (28th in the NFL).

The first overall pick, Travon Walker, will look to wreak havoc on the edge in a similar way as former DROY pass rusher winners: Nick Bosa (9 sacks, 16 QB hits, and 25 QB hits) and Chase Young (7.5 sacks, 12 QB hits, and 10 TFLs) made an impact in their first season. Walker has stated that his goal is to break Josh Allen’s rookie sack total: 10.5 sacks. Walker doesn’t only have confidence in himself, but the DC Mike Caldwell feels confident in the former first overall pick being a force in his rookie campaign.

Joe Moore Award winner vs Travon Walker pic.twitter.com/9N1aR7vakC
— Jon Tweets Sports (@jontweetssports) January 1, 2022

I also honestly believe the Jags LB group upgraded this off-season. They lost Myles Jack, who recorded a dreadful 37.7 grade by PFF, but they should anticipate quality production from the rookie LB Devin Lloyd. The 6’3, 230-pound LB had a 6.38 draft grade and he also landed on Yardbarker’s pre-season all-rookie team.

The new-look Jags offense should have more success, particularly in their rushing attack. A healthy Travis Etienne and the sturdy James Robinson should untwine to be a terrific RB tandem. The Jags ranked 31st in Time of Possession last season, so it was clear their offense didn’t help their defense get close to enough rest. Assuming the Jags roll out an improved rushing attack w/ new muscle and swagger on defense, the Jags defense should make significant progress and make fans reminisce about the days of Sacksonville.

The Jacksonville Jaguars broke away from the dark side with Urban Meyer and bolted to the light with Doug Pederson. I believe there’s a lot of reason for optimism with the Jags new HC-QB combination. In fact, I’m going to untwine three reasons why the Jags could surprise the football world and even make the playoffs next season.

Which QB would you rather have on your team? ?

?? for Justin Fields
? for Trevor Lawrence#DaBears | #DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/OxvcT7clFX
— FanDuel Sportsbook (@FDSportsbook) May 29, 2022

Non-WR receiving weapons

The Jags will showcase Marvin Jones Jr and two new WRs: Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. T-Lawrence quietly has an impressive WR trio. Although, I also LOVE the receiving talent from the RB and TE positions. The former Eagles HC will be constantly dreaming up ways to get Travis Etienne and Evan Engram involved. Per CBS Sports, the dual-threat RB will be used in a “Deebo Samuel-like role”. Outside of the Jags second-year QB being a fantasy sleeper with his wide array of weapons, I also project he will have a fairly clean season in 2022 with excellent security blankets at RB and TE.

Travon Walker

The Jags first overall pick Travon Walker is certainly tired of hearing how Aidan Hutchinson is a favorite to win DROY. Walker may appear to have slightly less NFL-ready skills, but the freak athlete can surely grow as the season evolves. Walker has similar power as Khalil Mack and he can absolutely ruin opponents by himself. <s>Chandler Jones</s> The former Georgia Bulldog may be the next nightmare for Titans LT Taylor Lewan.

The Titans (who lost a couple of offensive pieces this off-season) have beaten the Jaguars in each of the past five games.

Pass protection

The Jags didn’t need to draft a tackle first overall to prove their love for T-Lawrence. They nicely brought back Cam Robinson on a three-year contract worth $54. Furthermore, they inked the elite guard Brandon Scherff to a three-year, $49.5 million dollar deal. The 2021 second-round pick Walker Little may also start over Jawann Taylor at RT and be an underrated long-term starter.

Who is the best breakout candidate on the Jaguars?

By: Jake Rajala

The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to be the next bottom-of-the-barrel team to flip the script in 2022. After escaping Urban Alcatraz Island, the Jags will look to improve and reap benefits from many rising players. With that said I’m going to go to untwine a few profiles that will break out in 2022.

Chad Muma

The Jaguars will not only really reap benefits from Travon Walker, but the Jaguars should see quality production from Chad Muma in his first season. Per Jaguars Wire, the Jaguars feel like they have a special player in Muma. He is a strong candidate to play the Money Backer role in the Jags defense, as Mike Caldwell (disciple of Todd Bowles) wants to implement the safety/linebacker position. Muma was a two-time captain at Wyoming and he feels like he can learn the system quickly and have a strong chance to start at the money backer on Day 1.

The @Jaguars have signed third-round draft selection LB Chad Muma to his rookie contract, the team announced today.
— JaguarsPR (@JaguarsPR) May 25, 2022

Travis Etienne

The Jags second-year RB Travis Etienne was MIA in his rookie season, but he will look to be a key component in the new-look Jags offense moving forward. Per Big Cat Country, Etienne is cleared for practice activity and the team hopes he is floating around 100%. I expect Etienne to help handle the load for the injured James Robinson and be a fine security blanket for T-Lawrence in 2022.

Evan Engram

I love Evan Engram’s outlook with the Jags offense. It’s clear that has garnered respect as an athletic freak, but he hasn’t quite recorded a strong season (such has 723+ yards or 7+ touchdowns in a season). I trust the Jags offense with Doug Pedersen and a likely improved Trevor Lawrence to help him excel in excellent situations. Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com believes that Engram could be the best value signing of this off-season for the Jags offense.

Latest outlook of Travis Etienne

By: Doug Ludemann

Few things in life move at the speed of fantasy football. Player values skyrocket, or tank, based on the mere editing of a player’s social media bio. In fact, I’m old enough to remember when some considered Travis Etienne the best running back in his class. Fast forward to the present, and fellow blue-chip sophomore running backs Najee Harris and Javonte Williams is making waves in both their NFL careers as well as in dynasty rankings as they charge ahead of a slew of veterans in most people’s ranks.

One can’t say the same about Etienne, who remains an enigmatic RB13 on the KTC rankings. Slotting in just after Nick Chubb and before Saquan Barkley and Alvin Kamara. Does his current outlook justify his consensus value?

“Talk of the Town, Talk of the Town”#ComeHomeTheKidsMissYou X #DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/gKFuc5uc6Z
— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) May 6, 2022

Etienne had a good college profile, with ample production both on the ground and through the air. Drafted in the first round to pair with his college QB Trevor Lawrence, expectations for him were high in 2021 before his Lisfranc injury in August 2021. There is still cause for optimism, as Etienne’s rehab has gone well by all accounts, and he is projected to be present in the team’s offseason workout programs, buoying hopes that he’ll be available for the start of training camp. That timetable is reasonable, given an average recovery period of about 30 weeks for athletes who suffered a Lisfranc injury. It should be noted that it is not uncommon for recovery to stretch over a year for your typical patient.

A 30-week recovery period would put us at about March 15th from the date of his injury. On The Players Podcast, Etienne mentioned that he had started running back in February, “My foot is doing much better,” Etienne said. “Really just got back into the gym for the first time and I’m squatting for the first time this past week. So that’s been good and I’ve been running for a while now. I’m kind of getting to that 80% to 85% range.”

As encouraging as his recovery has been, it’s worth noting that the research regarding player performance following a Lisfranc injury seems less elucidating. Scientists tracked athletes following surgical treatment for Lisfranc injuries and noted that on average athletes subjectively attained 87% of their previous “level of play” following their recovery”¦with the emphasis in that sentence on the term subjective.

In an unrelated study, scientists tracked the performance of NFL players following Lisfranc injuries, determining that players return to play at a median of 11 months from injury. They also found that the performance of both offensive and defensive players decreased following injury, but that decrease was not statistically significant, i.e. it may have been a chance finding an artifact of the sample data. In this study, they defined performance based on the “power rating” metric, defined as (touchdowns x 6)+(total yards/10), and the defensive power rating as (total tackles)+(total sacks x 2)+(total interceptions x 2). They then compared player performance pre/post-injury. The use of the “power rating” metric to gauge player performance has a precedent in comparing the performance of players post ACL injury. My concern with this type of analysis is that year-over-year variation in most of those metrics is already poor. Stats like touchdowns, interceptions, and sacks are simply not “sticky” year over year. That they found no statistically significant decrease in production is demonstrative of that reality.

So, while so many remain optimistic about Etienne’s dynasty outlook, it would be prudent to temper expectations, especially for the upcoming season. His long-term outlook may not be as good as it was when he was drafted 25th overall in 2021, though there’s little reason to believe that he won’t be active at the start of the season. Additionally, with teammate James Robinson rehabilitating his own very serious injury, with recovery from Achilles injury far less predictable than Lisfranc, the workload for Etienne appears likely to be ample. Additionally, with RBs Rachaad White and Brian Robinson Jr. available when the Jags picked twice in the 3rd round, the team opted to take an LB and OL instead, tipping their hand regarding their thoughts about their running back room.

True or False?

James Robinson will finish the season as a Top-20 running back.#FantasyFootball #Jaguars pic.twitter.com/49i4Tm9PZl
— FFCalculator (@FFCalculator) May 5, 2022

There is certainly still a chance that Etienne will return to his pre-injury form, but there’s also a chance we see a diminished performance from the sophomore running back.

I would recommend taking a dart throw at incoming rookie Snoop Conner in the later rounds of drafts, as low acquisition cost RBs in muddled backfields tend to be a good bet. That being said, if you can get a first-round pick for Etienne with perhaps a late-pick kicker, I’d take that trade today. I’d also be willing to trade Etienne for any number of vets going near Etienne in drafts, because it’s hard for me to believe that some fraction of Etienne will produce superior numbers than those vets, especially in 2022. Keep your ear to the ground, if the Jags add a veteran to their backfield in the months leading up to the start of training camp he’d be well worth rostering in most formats.

Can Etienne be the next Kamara?

By: Will Baptist

The running back position has seen a drastic change over the years, and they are required to be more complete backs now. Catching the ball out of the backfield, and having a good enough route tree to line up in the slot is a major aspect of being an every-down back.

Alvin Kamara is arguably the best example of that in the NFL right now. He has the strength and size to run it up the middle throughout the game, while having the quickness and route running ability to run numerous different routes, and stay on the field on third down.

Kamara was drafted in 2017, and already has 4 Pro Bowls under his belt. We have yet to see a running back with the unique size and quickness comparable to Kamara since he entered the league, but it seems there is one on the horizon.

Travis Etienne, a first-round pick out of Clemson, is the best comparison we have seen to Kamara. Etienne is poised for a big rookie season on the Jaguars, especially since his quarterback will be his former college teammate, Trevor Lawrence. They already have familiarity with each other and know the strengths and weaknesses of each other’s game.

Similarities in Styles

Etienne and Kamara are the exact same size, at 5’10 and 215 pounds. They play very similar styles, with their patience and explosiveness. Etienne is physical and able to run between the tackles, but has the straight line speed to score on any play.

Etienne is extremely difficult to bring down, and it normally takes at least two defenders to do so. He was able to run a wide array of routes during his final two seasons at Clemson, and showed that he has the ability do that consistently at the next level. He improved as a pass blocker throughout his career as well, which bodes will for his ability to stay on the field on the third down moving forward. Kamara also showed flashes in college of how great of a pass catcher he could be during his tenure in Tennessee.

Urban Meyer will unleash that aspect of Etienne’s game, and it would not be shocking to see him catch 60-70 passes as a rookie. He is the complete package, and his strength and size are reminiscent of Kamara as a college back. Their quickness jumps out on tape and their ability to move in and out of cuts is staggering.

One major difference is Kamara ran a 4.56 40-yard dash, while Etienne ran a 4.32 40-yard dash. That speed is going to translate immediately at the next level, and as long as Etienne can hold his own as a pass blocker, he will be on the field a ton as a rookie. They have other backs in place in Jacksonville, so he will not have to shoulder the load, which gives time to learn and grow.

The biggest similarity between them is the strength and ability to bounce of defenders. They both understand leverage and how to use their size to break tackles on every play. This will be a nightmare for opposing defensive backs when they are put on an island on a swing pass, and try to bring down Etienne. He is in prime position to be Offensive Rookie of the Year, just as Kamara was in 2017.

Similarities in Statistics

Etienne shattered the record books during his 4-year career at Clemson. He holds the ACC career record for rushing yards (4,952), total touchdowns (78) and total points (468). Etienne had the luxury of being on one of most the prolific teams in the NCAA all four years. When he stepped on campus as a freshman, it was evident he was the premiere back on the team, while totaling 766 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, along with 7.2 yards per carry as a true freshman.

This was only the beginning for Etienne, as he went on to rush for for consecutive 1600+ yard seasons with at least 23 total touchdowns as a sophomore and junior. His junior season, Clemson began to use him as a pass catcher and expand on how he can contribute out of the backfield. He had 37 catches, 432 yards and four touchdowns through the air, showing that he can be an every down back. It was clear how special he was and his yards per carry never dipped below 7.2 his first three seasons.

Every player’s statistics and production should have an asterisks by it for the 2020 season, considering the global pandemic was in full force. Etienne is no exception, and this forced him to play only 12 games, as opposed to the 15 games that he played the two seasons prior. His rushing stats took a dip , but he exploded as a receiver and showed his full capabilities. He hauled in 48 catches, 588 receiving yards, two touchdowns and 12.3 yards per catch.

Kamara had very similar production as a receiver during his time in Tennessee. He was primarily used at a pass catcher, but still dominated on the ground. In his two years at Tennessee, he totaled 1,294 rushing yards, 16 rushing touchdowns, 6.2 yards per carry, while catching 74 passes, 683 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. All this production occurred in a 24-game span, and it was clear Kamara was a diamond in the rough, and if he totaled the same amount of games as Etienne did in college, their statistics could be identical.

The similarities between Etienne and Kamara are uncanny, but being drafted into the right organization plays a major role in how successful the player can be. Kamara was drafted into the perfect situation, with no lofty expectations as a third rounder, and going to one of the most genius offensive minds in Sean Payton, and future Hall of Fame quarterback, Drew Brees. Etienne is going to a first time NFL head coach, Urban Meyer, and an organization that does not have much of a history of winning. For the Jaguars sake, hopefully Etienne paired with Lawrence can provide them with hope for the future, because their talent is undeniable.
