TEAM SUPER BOWL HISTORY

Have the Tennessee Titans Ever Won a Super Bowl?

No. The Tennessee Titans have never won a Super Bowl. Tennessee is 0–1 after a 23–16 loss to the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV.

The final tackle made the game famous, but the Titans had to fight their way back before Kevin Dyson ever caught the last pass. Steve McNair and Eddie George helped erase a 16-point deficit, tying a game that had looked ready to get away from Tennessee.

Tennessee’s Only Trip Reached the Final Yard

The 1999 Titans were more than the Music City Miracle. Jeff Fisher’s team won three postseason games after the wild-card round, with McNair’s toughness, George’s workload and an aggressive defense carrying Tennessee into a matchup with the league’s most explosive offense.

St. Louis controlled the first half without putting the game away. That left the door open for Tennessee’s physical style to matter after halftime. The Titans ran through it, scored 16 unanswered points and turned a 16–0 deficit into a tie before the Rams landed the final two blows.

The Titans Were One Yard From Overtime

After Isaac Bruce’s 73-yard touchdown put St. Louis ahead 23–16, Tennessee took over with 1:48 left. McNair escaped pressure, found Dyson and moved the Titans to the Rams’ 10-yard line with six seconds remaining. There was enough time for one last play and, if Tennessee scored, an extra point to force overtime.

Dyson caught a slant and cut toward the goal line. Mike Jones wrapped him up, and Dyson stretched the ball toward the end zone as time expired. He landed one yard short. The tackle decided the game, but Tennessee only reached that moment because its defense and running game had pulled the Rams into a fourth-quarter fight.

Turning point: Mike Jones tackled Kevin Dyson at the 1-yard line as time expired, preserving St. Louis’ 23–16 win.

The Rams led 16–0 in the third quarter, but Eddie George scored twice and Al Del Greco tied the game. Isaac Bruce answered with a 73-yard touchdown, leaving McNair 1:48 to respond. The Titans reached the St. Louis 10, and Dyson caught the final pass with a lane inside. Jones closed it before Dyson could reach the goal line.

Why Super Bowl XXXIV Was More Than the Final Tackle

The last image is simple. The game was not. Kurt Warner and the Rams built a 16–0 lead, George scored twice, Al Del Greco tied it and Bruce immediately broke the tie with a long touchdown. Both teams had already changed the direction of the night before the final drive began.

Tennessee’s 0–1 record contains a real championship chance. The Titans were not protecting a lead or lining up for a winning kick, but they had driven close enough to force overtime with one more yard. No other appearance exists to soften or complicate that finish.
