A great roster can only go so far without the right coach. These rankings show which teams have a staff that gives them an edge and which ones still have plenty to prove. The grade balances the head coach’s long-term resume with current staff performance, coordinator stability, player development, culture and game management.

Coaching Direction is not just how good a team was last year. PFM balances the head coach’s proven resume with the work the current staff is doing right now, then adds coordinator stability, player development, culture and game management.
A hot season matters, but it does not automatically put a newer head coach in the Andy Reid or Sean McVay tier. The resume has to support it.
The final Coaching Direction grade is calculated in the local PFM data pipeline and imported into WordPress. The plugin displays that grade without rebuilding it.
PFM ratings are updated regularly throughout the year.
