San Francisco's identity starts with a wide-zone and play-action offense built around Christian McCaffrey, yards after the catch and Brock Purdy’s timing. George Kittle gives the offense another matchup piece.

Brock Purdy keeps San Francisco on schedule with anticipation throws and play action. The offense runs through Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle, forcing defenses to account for the backfield before the ball is even thrown. San Francisco is not creating enough chunk plays, and age or injuries at the top of the roster could make every long drive heavier.
San Francisco 49ers lost ground after Ricky Pearsall was placed on injured reserve following PCL surgery. The addition of Deebo Samuel Sr. softened the loss, but the 49ers' roster and offense grades still declined.

Big-play production is something to watch for the 49ers. Who is the vertical threat on this team?
Purdy wins with timing and anticipation in an offense built to turn motion and play action into yards after the catch. That supports the 9th-ranked QB Stability grade, but the offense looks different when injuries pile up or San Francisco keeps landing in third-and-long.
San Francisco ranks 17th in explosive-play ability. Without more chunk plays, too many drives depend on staying perfect for ten or twelve snaps.
San Francisco owns one of the tougher schedules in the league because Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs form the hardest part of it. PFM has the schedule No. 8 with an opponent average of 81.5 and 7 games against current top-10 teams. The road is not difficult from start to finish, but the stretch around Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs leaves little room for an off week.

Toughest remaining opponent:
Seattle Seahawks at 91.3 PFM.
Kyle Shanahan said Nick Bosa is week to week with tendinitis in his surgically repaired right knee.
That is a more meaningful development than the earlier camp soreness because it adds a specific diagnosis and timetable to San Francisco's top pass rusher. Bosa is too important to the defensive front to ignore but there is still no indication that Week 1 is in danger. This is yet another injury worry for the 49ers who have already had multiple players miss camp. We will continue to monitor this closely.

Shared profile: Roster Strength and QB Stability.
San Francisco finds early-down control through the offensive line, while Philadelphia finds early-down control through the offensive line. The connection in QB Stability and Roster Strength is the support that keeps one missed block, injury or covered first read from ending the down. Philadelphia separates on defense, where the stronger blend of pressure and coverage is built around coverage and the defensive front.
Where they separate: Defense. Eagles hold the stronger current rating.
San Francisco 49ers sits 3rd in the division, 4.8 PFM points from Seattle.
Badge ended: Loaded Roster.
San Francisco has won 5 Super Bowls in 8 appearances, most recently Super Bowl XXIX in 1995.
