The Saints Took Over Super Bowl XLIV After Halftime
The Saints went to halftime down 10–6 and were supposed to kick the ball back to Peyton Manning. Payton opened the second half with the onside kick instead. Chris Reis recovered it and Brees turned the extra possession into a touchdown pass to Pierre Thomas.
Indianapolis answered with a touchdown, so the onside kick did not win the game by itself. Brees completed 18 of his final 19 passes and New Orleans scored the last 18 points.
