How NFL Playoff Seeding Works
Seven teams reach the playoffs from each conference. The four division winners take seeds 1–4, and the next three teams earn Wild Card spots at seeds 5–7. The No. 1 seed gets the only first-round bye.
In the Wild Card round, No. 2 hosts No. 7, No. 3 hosts No. 6 and No. 4 hosts No. 5. The NFL reseeds after that round, so the top remaining seed faces the lowest remaining seed in the divisional playoffs.
Seeds can change as games are played. Tied teams may move under the NFL's official tiebreaker rules.
