SOS is strength of schedule. A lower opponent winning percentage gets the earlier pick when records are tied. PL marks a team currently inside PFM’s projected playoff field.

The First-Round Picks That Changed Hands

A team’s record decides where its original pick lands. A trade decides who gets to use it. PFM keeps those two things separate so the order never hides the real owner.

How the 2027 NFL Draft Order Works

Record comes first

The team with the worse regular-season record gets the earlier pick among teams in the same draft-order group.

Strength of schedule breaks the first tie

When records match, the team whose opponents have the lower aggregate winning percentage gets the earlier selection. PFM calculates live SOS from the full regular-season opponent list and the latest PFM standings.

The playoffs lock the back of the round

Non-playoff teams ultimately fill picks 1–18. Playoff teams fill 19–32 based on how far they advance, with the Super Bowl champion picking last.

During the regular season, the back of the round is still a projection. PFM will not call a deep tiebreak official when the verified data does not resolve it. For the current league picture, see the 2026 NFL standings.

Sources and methodology

The team records come from PFM’s published NFL standings snapshot. Strength of schedule is calculated from PFM’s complete regular-season schedule using each opponent’s current record, counting repeat opponents each time they appear on the schedule. Draft-order procedure is checked against NFL Football Operations. Traded first-round picks are stored only after administrator review and retain their source links.
