How Many Super Bowls Have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Won?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won two Super Bowls in two appearances.

Tampa Bay won its two Super Bowls 18 years apart with completely different teams. Jon Gruden’s 2002 Bucs crushed Oakland behind a defense that picked off Rich Gannon five times. Bruce Arians and Tom Brady won the second, but the defense again took over by holding Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City without a touchdown.

Tampa Bay Won Both Super Bowls With Defense Taking Over

Gruden knew Oakland’s offense from his time coaching the Raiders, which gave Tampa Bay an extra edge in preparation. The bigger problem for Oakland was the Bucs defense itself. Dexter Jackson picked off Gannon twice in the first half and Tampa Bay finished with five interceptions and three defensive touchdowns.

The 2020 Bucs had Brady at quarterback, but Super Bowl LV became a showcase for Todd Bowles’ defense. Tampa Bay got pressure with four rushers, kept help in coverage and made Mahomes spend the night scrambling away from pressure. Kansas City settled for three field goals and never reached the end zone.

Two Super Bowls, Two Completely Different Buccaneers Teams

The 2002 team was Gruden, Brad Johnson, Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp. The 2020 team was Arians, Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Shaq Barrett and Devin White. What both had was a defense that could wreck the opponent’s offensive game plan.

Tampa Bay never built a long run of Super Bowl appearances. It got there twice almost two decades apart and won both games by more than 20 points.
