Why PFM Ranks the Panthers Here

Carolina has two pieces worth building around in Derrick Brown and Tetairoa McMillan. That is not enough to move the Panthers above No. 29 while the pass rush disappears for stretches and Bryce Young is still trying to turn his late-season improvement into a full-season standard. The offense needs steadier quarterback play before the young receiving talent can matter every week.

Carolina Panthers' score slipped after Nic Scourton tore his ACL and Taylor Moton was ruled out for the start of the season, which lowered the Panthers' injury, roster, and defensive grades.

Quarterback Questions

Carolina is building a defined-read offense for Bryce Young, with play action and quick throws designed to create yards after the catch. Derrick Brown remains the center of a 3-4 front that has to generate more outside pressure.

Pressure Point

Coaching Direction

Dave Canales can give Bryce Young defined reads, but he cannot scheme around a pass rush that disappears for entire drives. Carolina needs another defender besides Derrick Brown to force the quarterback off schedule.

Bryce Young Cannot Be the Only Clean Answer

Carolina can trust Bryce Young. The harder question is whether the rest of the offense can stay healthy, protect him and create answers that do not require a bailout. The roster question is Bryce Young’s consistency and a pass rush that cannot disappear for long stretches.

Dave Canales Needs Carolina’s Finish to Become the Baseline

Carolina's late finish raised the standard for Dave Canales. Bryce Young now has to keep making quicker decisions after opponents have a full offseason to study him, while the added speed on defense must turn close games into stops rather than encouraging signs.

PFM ROAD AHEAD

2026 Carolina Panthers Strength of Schedule

Carolina sits near the middle of the league at No. 19 in schedule strength, with opponents averaging 79.8. Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers create the toughest stretch, but 4 games against current top-10 teams keep the schedule from belonging at either extreme.

Darren Waller Gives Carolina Another Red-Zone Target

Reported

Carolina agreed to a one-year deal with Darren Waller, adding a veteran receiving tight end to an offense that still needs more reliable playmakers around Bryce Young.

Waller caught six touchdowns in nine games for Miami last season and already knows associate head coach Darrell Bevell's passing-game system. His injury history keeps this from being a major upgrade but he gives Carolina another target who can win in the middle of the field.
