What is the Lions running back outlook?

By: Jake Rajala

The Detroit Lions have a potential superstar in D’Andre Swift, who was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Swift ousted 1,069 all-purpose yards in 13 games last season. Per Detroit Lions, Ben Johnson stated, “We’re going to be a really good running team”. They will also be glad to have a healthy OL after numerous big-time injuries scarred their OL a season ago. Their beloved LT Taylor Decker missed eight games and their utmost elite center Frank Ragnow was MIA for 13 games a season ago. The Lions yielded the 19th-ranked rushing offense last season. They will anticipate Swift and a healthy OL transcending their rushing offense into a Top-10 rushing unit in 2022.

Swift will be accompanied by the former Packer Jamaal Williams — as he collected a career-high 601 rushing yds last season. Williams had a 69.8 grade by PFF last season. He will be a FA after the 2022 season.

The Lions RB3 is Craig Reynolds — who is entering his fourth season in the NFL. Reynolds recorded 230 rushing yards last season. Jermar Jefferson, who was selected by DET in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, will compete for a roster spot in 2022. He had 74 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs last season.

The Lions rushing attack should help the less than scary Jared Goff and young defense get more rest by wearing down opponents. The Lions ranked 26th in Time of Possession last season. Expect a potent Lions rushing offense to improve their TOP from 2021. The Lions will simply be a more well-rounded team moving forward stemming from their fearsome rushing attack.
