Best Bryce Young NFL fits in 2023

What is the best NFL fit for Bryce Young?

The Alabama quarterback Bryce Young easily won the Heisman in 2021 and he is clearly the top college football player in the nation. Young will try to build off a 2021 season where he ousted 4,872 passing yards, 47 passing touchdowns, and an 87.6 passer rating. He will certainly be motivated this offseason, as he did lose the National Championship against Georiga. In addition to suffering a defeat in his biggest contest of the year, he also will lose his wide receiver Jameson Williams to the NFL.

Love was pure magic last season and it’s clear he is seen as a gift from the football gods in the CFB world and NFL nation. There is no reason to doubt Love’s chances of dominating next season and being a prime candidate for another Heisman trophy. Furthermore, he will likely be seen as an early first-round draft choice in 2023. At this moment, he is certainly the favorite to be selected first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

With that enunciated, the question is: who is the top fit for the utterly polarizing draft prospect? Well, I’m going to untwine top NFL fits for Bryce Young.

  • Detroit Lions

Dan Campbell is clearly building his squad around the QB spot with the right pieces. He’s added a future All-Pro offensive tackle in Penei Sewell and I expect him to draft Kyle Hamilton or Aidan Hutchinson in the 2021 NFL draft. Nonetheless, they are still aching for prominent talent on offense around Sewell, T.J. Hockenson, and D’Andre Swift on offense

They featured the 24th ranked passing defense and the 28th ranked rushing defense in 2021, as well. The CB, S, LB, and DE spot demand upgrades.

The Lions might be adding smart chess pieces and appealing fans with their spirit, but they will most likely be a 1-5 win team next offseason. I don’t foresee them attracting many star profiles and/or seeing a significant boost from their QB spot in 2022. The NFC North really belongs to Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, who are coming out guns blazing with the Pack next season.

  • Houston Texans

The Houston Texans pick third in the 2022 NFL Draft and I expect them to pick in the Top 5 in the 2023 NFL Draft. They carry the very controversial, talented Deshaun Watson and it appears they will trade him soon. QB David Fales showed glimpse of success in 2021, but he will be crippled yet again in 2023.

The Texans traded RB Mark Ingram in 2021 and their weaponry won’t look noticeably different moving forward. They should also lose David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay this offseason. Brandin Cooks is essentially the lone wolf in Houston as it stands. Brandin Cooks is also a hot trade candidate. The Texans are also outside the Top 10 in cap space, so they won’t really be luring numerous elite profiles in free agency. In the near future, I expect the rebuilding Texans to add a few pieces around the QB, give the keys to David Fale, and then be very aggressive for a top-notch QB in 2023.

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Carolina Panthers are eyeing a QB with their Top 10 pick (eighth overall pick) in the 2021 NFL Draft and I believe the fellow NFC South squad in the Bucs could be in a similar situation next offseason. The Bucs lost seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who led the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns last season is out the door.

The Bucs were honestly dreadful without Brady before he arrived. They could endure more horrific outcomes without TB12, as the Bucs will hand the keys to Trask with a team that will likely miss the production from Playoff Lenny, AB, Suh, JPP, Gronk, and potentially Chris Godwin. I also don’t see them residing in the QB trade sweepstakes, as Aaaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, and Kyler Murray are basically off the board.

Honorable mentions:

  • New York Jets

I didn’t love the hire of Robert Saleh, who might put together a worse tenure than Adam Gase in the Big Apple. Saleh is Dan Quinn 2.0 in my opinion, as he was a top-notch defensive coordinator on a team that had backup, elite studs. When Nick Bosa was injured, the 49ers defense and Saleh looked a lot less impressive.

I don’t expect the Jets to turnaround noticeably in the AFC East division featuring the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots with their OL and QB personal. Mekhi Becton, who appeared to have the most potential in 2020, took a big step back in 2021. Meanwhile, Zach Wilson ousted 9 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. They were aching for QB stability so much that they traded for the former Jet Joe Flacco. They will likely invest in their highly drafted BYU QB for at least one more season, but I expect him them to looking for a new QB at the bottom of the barrel in 2023.

  • Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have just shipped out their beloved Russell Wilson and things could be quite dark for the Hawks in 2022. They still have the incredible hulk in D.K. Metcalf, but they will be bleeding at the QB, RB (likely losing Chris Carson), OL, and numerous defensive spots. The world knows Wilson walked out the door, but the All-Pro LB Bobby Wagner departed, too. Pete Caroll is an underrated “hot seat” candidate in 2022.

Drew Lock will be the new alpha male at the QB spot, but it will be tough sledding for the former rookie star. Lock will be tasked with leading a squad that unveiled a 7-10 record last season with Wilson in 2021. I surely expect the Seahawks to struggle next season and finish with a Top 5 pick in the 2023 draft. The Broncos will also have two first round picks in 2023, so they could opt to trade for the golden ticket (first overall) and snag their next long-term QB. If the Seahawks can add a few nice pieces with their multiple first round picks this offseason, they could have comfortable chair for the gifted Bryce Love in 2023.
